Our present squad

I presume we're all guessing that Eduoard and JRS are the two who have been told to find new clubs. The fact Ahamada doesn't even seem to be being mentioned by Glasner suggests he has no place in the first-team either. If OE and JRS do leave, on top of Eze, then even if Guehi stays we probably need at least 4 players, which is a lot to sign in just 10 days.

I was disappointed Esse didn't get a run out. As much as I love Glasner, behind that gentle persona, I think he's actually quite tough, as seen with the Holding situation. I wonder if there's more to it with Esse and it's perhaps less about football. All speculation of course.
It could also be that he relied on more experienced players to break down a defensive team with practically two lines of defence throughout the game. I don't think he doesn't value him, because given the size of our squad, he has no choice but to value all the players available.

I think he's got a problem with Esse, you don't sub off your sub in a premier league game unless they're not listening to a word you've said. Wonder if it's an attitude problem as there was absolutely no reason to stick Edouard on instead of Esse or JRS.
Yes it's a bit of a concern and very frustrating as he's one of the options to help fill Eze's void. But like you say there seems to be a disconnect. If he can't get a game against low quality opposition, in a position where we're desperately short and can't get in front of a player who is likely set to leave the club soon, then the future is not looking to rosy. A shame as it looks like he's got real promise.

At the final whistle, Esse was straight down the touchline with a face like thunder. And I don’t blame him.

Last night was perfect chance to get him some minutes and it didn’t happen. Glasner clearly has zero faith in the lad or is trying to teach him a lesson.
agree last 15 or so minutes i would have been tempted to switch to 424 and put both wingers on. We lacked pace on the wings and the crossing was too slow.

Devenney is not a front 3 player and struggled from the off.

Whilst the bench is weak the lack of subs is a worry

Scrabbling for an explanation but maybe the plan was to hold him back for the away leg when he'll be an unknown quantity? Not likely of course.

TBH fed up with all the Eze and Guehi talk now. It's about time Parish and Co dipped into their deep pockets and get these players we're looking at over the line instead of quibbling over a few million. We have the money!!! Feel sorry for the best manager we've ever had. If we lose him over all this we're f***** and back to the struggling depths rather than pushing forwards like we should be. The Leicester lad looks quality and wants to come so there's a starter Steve!

Devenny didn't play badly but he seemed to be lacking a bit of confidence whereas Sosa was keen to get involved but he is much more experienced. Oddly it almost had the feel of an England game when we're playing a lower ranked country and struggle to score against a packed defence but overall it was OK: 25 shots (although only 5 on target) and hit the woodwork twice. They were better than I thought they'd be but we should expect to beat them over there. It would've been a more anxious trip if they'd scored on last attack though so hope Richards is back by then.
That's exactly what I thought... like an England game. Also noticed the tactics haven't changed and was very similar to last season vs Everton at home... lots of passing left to right and back again, pulling defence around but finding no space...

I think Esse will get in the side as a starter as left attacker, but will take until Nov/Dec for Glasner to plump for that as the right team configuration.. similar to his insistence on playing Kamada as an advanced player before pulling him back to central mid last season.

I can't help but feel Esse and Glasner have fallen out. He was the obvious candidate to replace Eze. He needs game time to improve and last night would have been ideal. As much as I like Devenny for his effort, I don't think he's suited to AMC as he hasn't got any creativity. He's more of a central midfielder.

Glasner was clearly not happy with him at Anfield at the end of last season and perhaps something has rumbled on since.

Kamada, forgot about him being missing last night. Let’s hope he is back for the return leg? As for suggestions relating to Sosa playing further forward. Seems like a good idea. Devenny struggled last night in Eza position, so giving Sosa that chance in front of Mitchell might work? Liked the suggestion also that match reminded us that it was like watching England playing a minor country. It did seem like it? Esse should have been used and even Clyne replacing Lerma who could then have moved into midfield to replace a tiring Hughes or Wharton. Strange that Glasner didn’t make changes unlike our opponents who freshened tiring players?

The lack of creativity on show yesterday was alarming - Devenny should be nowhere near the front 3 in a game where we have that much of the ball.

Agree with others that it's very worrying he doesn't seem to trust Esse in that sort of game - we were crying out for someone who could beat a man and make something happen, so if he's not seen as an option in that setting, I'm not sure when he will be.

The quality on our bench is genuinely embarrassing - I wonder if Glasner just threw Edouard on to make a point.

I am sure in one of the after the match interviews, Glasner said none of the injured players will be back for the second leg. Esse is one for the future and maybe putting him in with Eze leaving would have focused attention on him too much?
