I share the frustration but suggesting if Guehi goes then Wharton, Henderson and Mateta go is a little extreme. I expect replacements to happen. What you’re imagining is some sort of asset stripping.I personally think Oliver Glasner is the best manager Crystal Palace have ever had. For me if Guehi goes, Wharton goes and even Hendo and JPM go in this window I'll of course be gutted but the long term damage would be nothing compared to losing Glasner. Players come and go and while Managers do too quality managers are usually loyal and try to build something at least until an offer comes that they cannot refuse. In an ideal world I'd have loved the owners to sit down with Glasner and discuss a long term plan and lock him up in golden handcuffs for the duration of that plan.
Sadly Glasner has already told the owners what was needed before we even won the FA cup. It seemed that they listened and agreed to try to accommodate his requests. As he said recently 'this is not Oliver Glasner demanding this or that it is Oliver Glasner's advise if you want to move forward'.
The advise has not been heeded. They have not backed him. They have not replaced players they knew were likely to be leaving. They have not bought in any players that he told them we needed regardless of any departures except for Sosa.
He walked out on Frankfurt over similar issues/broken promises. Right now I'd be more concerned about whether he honors his existing contract than the chances of him agreeing a new one. Of course emotions were running high last night. Eze refusing to play, the team not getting the 2 or 3 goal cushion their performance deserved but he was visibly and obviously upset last night and he made his feelings very clear. The owners are not backing him at this moment in time.
Of course 3 or 4 players could arrive in the next week and they hit the ground running, no harm done and he returns to a more happy place at Palace but I would fear this could be the beginning of the end of the Oliver Glasner era. I truly hope I am wrong. As mentioned, I think he is the best thing to happen to our club for many years, prehaps ever.
I am disappointed more effort is not being made to provide him with what he needs to do his job.
