Mateta

I don't hold any grudge against Mateta for wanting a move.

He's got his salary expectations which the club are unwilling to match.

While his footballing stock is high, that's the optimum time for him to get what will probably be the last big move of his career. All understandable from the players perspective.

But my question is why press for a move at this precise moment ? If he carried on and produced the goods for Palace until the end of this season he could wind up with a CL winners medal, his value would only increase which in turn would enable him to get his big move in the summer.

So I think this is as disrespectful to the club as Glasners recent antics.

Would the clubs lack of ambition be quickly forgotten if Parish offered him a £200k a week contract ?

What I don't understand is why he isn't on an operating table sorting his knee out.

I don't believe he'll want to risk a World Cup with his knee as it is. The only time he is now actually useful for us is the latter rounds of the CL. He's been totally crap since he got that injury so the value of him struggling through vs playing Uche for a few weeks is minimal.

Had the club done it the day after the Villa game he'd have missed only 4 league games in the next month, knowing Sarr is back for 3 of them, and we've already lost one of those games.

it could be one of them niggly injurys that cant be corrected on the table and gets better with rest rather than a op

I don’t get thi Mateta transfer. No one is going to sign a player with an injured joint that may well need an op other than Palace.
If I were him I would be seeking independent medical advice / assessment and take it from there. Where will we all be if he goes on loan to Juve and then needs an op???

Mateta is contracted to 2027. We either cash in now or tell him he's staying.

Where are we going to get another quality striker in this window?

He stays for my money. With the World Cup coming up, he will want to be in the reckoning, although he has fat chance the way he is playing right now.
Which is why that it is probably more important for him to start scoring than it is for us to sell him.

as far as I can tell, Mateta hasn't said anything publicly about wanting away. There's nothing wrong with a player wanting to leave and he's within his rights to communicate that the the club. They're not mind readers. We also have no idea how that conversation went down. It could have been handled really well by Mateta on the understanding that is has to be right price/right time for the club. So I don't think it's right to assume the worst and demote his name to mud. We just don't know. Let's see how he applies himself for the rest of the season (and yes I know he's bang out of form right now!).

He's put in a transfer request. He's putting himself up for sale. The club haven't. We would have sold in the summer. Frankly, likely squad problems with a crying manager, captain and best player just left. Unhappy replacement has come in - Johnson clearly affected by the turmoil. No one else of note likely to come and the biggest thing: we're losing. Winning, and none of this would be happening. The final straw was Macclesfield but the board or just Steve didn't seem to notice. The other was still conceding from set pieces despite knowing that is our weakness. That alone is unacceptable. One more goal against us from a corner and Glasner has to go regardless of replacement or not.
As for back to Mateta, I've stopped caring. If there is a decent fee he can go. His performances have gone back to type. His good form may have just been the extraordinary part. We're back to his normal form now. He looked barely able to play football when he came here. Wilf pointed this out - despite the fake apologies.

Has he?

as mentioned in a earlier post , it said desire and hopefully , so desire to leave and hopefully at the right price , So Mateta has said would like to leave this window if the right price can be agreed , this is the way I understand it , hopefully with players coming back around him . if still here he starts scoring again with other goal scores , we need him scoring so shouting at him may not be wise

I'm hoping the context is that JP has said to Palace 'if' the clubs valuation is met then he wants to leave (i.e last chance at champions League football). That I can understand, not great when it goes public but I can just about take it.

If on the other hand he's just saying he wants to leave and it's kicking up a stink then that's gonna be hard to stomach.

I guess we'll see if he plays on the weekend as I can't imagine any of the interested parties will meet his valuation as so far all the clubs linked seem to have PSR issues.
Spot on. I do have a bad taste in the mouth from reported comments (accepting may be paper talk) that he wants to leave because of our lack of ambition, which seems to chime with OG.

I love Mateta and what a great player he has developed into. Fine with handing in a transfer request but be classy about it, this club stood by him pre-Glasner when he wasn't performing and still most of this season also when at times he has been off the boil and nowhere near as influential as he was last season.

I would rather he just be sold in this window now.

That is a transfer request. "I want to leave now". No idea if the club have accepted it. Looks like he's been on at least half a strike recently anyway. He can't fully strike otherwise he'd be called a striker. Which currently would be a false description.

still hasnt got to the benteke stage he has scored with his head and scored pens , and he was cheaper 😆

He's far more attacking than defensive. He is fast but not massively strong. He's willing, but not Munoz. He probably can attack around Munoz's level, but not get back and defend and tackle as well as Munoz. He's also going to need more experience - which only being played can help. He's probably a good fit for Glasner. We also have to remember that we'll be lucky to get anyone as good as Munoz.
I think I might actually cry when Munoz goes, and I haven’t done that since King Kenny Sansom and Ian wright left
