Marc Guehi

Why? That's an attraction. Fewer suitors. Lower price.

But once he gets in a team with more confidence, better coaching and he has Richards and Lacroix as well as Munoz and Mitchell as back up...

He is a risk, of course; but he would not be the first player taken from an abysmal side who then excels in a better environment.

true, and in Dougie and OG, we trust. If they think he's someone that can work for us then bring him in.
Still concerns me though 🤣

The best option by a country mile would be to keep Guehi. Better salary for say a three year contract.?
Cmon Mark. You can stay in the same Parish, you know it makes sense.

Sadly if Liverpool offer him £150k a week along with Champions League football and being in title contention there is nothing we can do to compete with it. We are simply not in a position to compete with the big boys on wages

I think Willo is correct about the about Harwood Ellis being comfortable on the ball, but for me the absolute prerequisite for a centre back is the desire to defend, to block, to compete , to have the absolute determination not to concede.
From my observation of Harwood Ellis, he lacks this .
Let West Ham have him.
Another defender under consideration is Burnley's Maxime Esteve.
Here is a player who relishes defending, puts his body on the line and makes clearances.
He has admitted that his use of the ball needs improving so in this respect he differs from Harwood-Bellis.
Vincent Kompany signed him from Montpellier.

It depends how many teams want him. If, for example, spurs, Liverpool and Newcastle all want him then a bidding war will start and then that basket case club from west London will also have a chance to match the highest offer too!!
Re MG's value in the summer with only 1 year left of his contract, another factor is the 20% Chelsea are supposedly entitled to as a sell on clause.

Well say MG went for £50m that would equate to c£30m profit so £6m to Chelsea.

We know Chelsea are one of the club's who MAY be interested in a summer purchase and they supposedly also have a matching clause.

They also have Trevor C who may be of interest to us (but clearly not at £40m!!).

I think Chelsea could maybe offer say £20m plus Trevor which is essentially worth more as we would avoid the 20% payment to them.

All speculation at this stage but they were rumoured to have made a cheeky bid of Chalobah plus £10m before recalling Chalobah in the last window.

If we could increase that payment to say £25m i don't think that would be a terrible deal.

I'd rather keep MG but it doesn't seem his agent is keen to even negotiate so a sale this summer looks nailed on.

Where does this 20% sell on clause come from? When we signed him I seem to recall the only clause attached to the deal was a matching clause so Chelsea could guarantee signing him back if they wanted to.

The only time I have heard sell on clauses be mentioned is in click bait articles which are notoriously unreliable.
