Marc Guéhi

Has Marc actually said anything? I haven't seen anything but I haven't been following it. I've taken an international break too. I'm not that interested when Palace aren't playing.
its all paper talk and I think Guehi wouldn't wash his dirty laundry in public , what's been said between club and him will stay that way , its nobody else business ,

100% Marc will be disappointed and probably upset with the club.

On the other hand he and his family are devout Christian’s and believe everything is Gods plan. There are lots of positives to staying at palace both in a World Cup year and financially with a free transfer move.
Time is a healer
I think this is it. Marc has shown he genuinely recognises how "blessed" he is to be playing football professionally. He has that one-in-a-million chance to play football for a top club and for his country and get paid extremely well for it. Next summer, he will get even more money and move to his pick of the world's top clubs before playing in a World Cup. The idea that he will be having a tantrum seems wide of the mark for me. It's more likely, he'll have a little moan to his sisters at home before getting on with it.

Pundits are going to spew a load of nonsense to fill air and create clicks/views, but Marc will just smile and get on with it. It's what he does.

Probably. Hopefully.

I am more concerned with the tension between management and management.

Glasner has demonstrated a clear case of tail wagging dog and SP cannot be happy. The club just lost a huge sum for a club our size.

Glasner got his way but the rumours linking him to a triumphant return to the Bundesliga have not gone away. If he stays, he will get greatly improved terms and become like Wenger at Arsenal.

I hope SP is able to accept a loss of control from both the financial side and playing side to achieve the outcome of continuing progress on and off the field.

I agree regarding the management situation. A lot will probably depend on whether Glasner shows any indication he will sign a new contract. He has inferred he won't (like when he said he and Marc were on similar paths). While Parish won't have wanted to lose OG right now (and thus relented on selling Marc), I doubt Steve is going to let Glasner dictate long-term plans if he's not going to be part of them. Hopefully, they agree to bury the hatchet and focus on the season ahead. I also hope Glasner has at least made it clear to Parish whether he intends to stay, so if he's off Steve can try and make succession planning for next summer.

Ultimately, the chairman has to decide what is best for the club, not just in the short term (which is what we and the manager tend to focus on), but also five years down the line.

Of course Marc would be disappointed if the dream move his quality and professionalism deserves. But we all know him better than this speculation and rumours, he will not go on strike or any other kind of protest. He will be professional and do his best as always until he departs, whether that be in January or next summer. Anyway right now he is on England duty so he is probably focussing his thoughts and energy on that.

A pretty sensible article from a news outlet for once.

Unfortuently, the only spurious bit is from a reporter.

"Rob Dorsett - I've been told there is now a strained relationship between Oliver Glasner and Marc Guehi. Guehi is convinced Glasner had a big part to play in his failure to move to Liverpool."

If I was Parish I would be hopping mad with Glasner for speaking out in public as he did. Unless it was all by agreement and intended to produce the outcome it did.

After all Glasner is an employee tasked to do a job and be very well paid for doing so. No different to the players. He has a duty to his employer to point out the consequences of anything he thinks might impact his capacity to perform his task, but that is done in private. Not in press conferences.

Imagine what would happen to a player who did that! They would be fined, or worse.

So, much as I hope I am wrong, I am not sure that this episode is yet over and the page can be turned. If I was Parish there would be a gritty meeting on the horizon in which much praise would be offered but also some very clear boundaries drawn on where the respective limits lie.

The more I think about it I suspect Glasner expecting control over almost everything was the reason Dougie bailed out and how Parish responds to this challenge will be a big test for him. Which after the UEFA shenanigans was all he needed.

I don’t think the criticism of Parish being posted here is justified in any way. He is one of us and deserves our support at all times. Especially when faced with tricky situations and decisions.

Parish does deserve criticism though.

We all knew that Guehi wasn't going to sign a new contract, and would need to be sold in the window. At some point during that window an agreement with another club would be made. Such a quality player a reduced price was always going to taken.

What Parish didn't do is bring in a quality replacement much earlier, ie. July or start of August. That is on him.

Had he brought in a quality replacement it would have probably kept Glasner happy, and avoided this situation.

It sounds like Glasner did really want Convet, as he doesn't see him as a 1st team player yet, whilst Igor was just a loan (a player that could not get in Brightons 1st team).

So he wasn't getting a like for like replacement.

I saw that 2 bids were made Yann Bisseck but knocked back firmly, whilst we didn't make a play for Pavlovic until the last day, so Was never going to happen.

This was a case where we needed spend before getting selling Guehi, but it appears they didn't want to do that. That is on him.

I will forgive him for everything except:

1) not knowing the rules relating to MCO and entrance into euro competitions. It’s part of his job.
2) not getting a CH replacement lined up and bought at the start of the transfer window. We needed a CH anyway so no one is ever going to convince me we didn’t have enough money to go buy one. His failure to do this has caused this potential rift and has cost the club money.

I thought Guehi had a contract until Summer 2026. Now, correct me if I am wrong, but when I was working, if I signed a contract, which I did a few times in my working life. I was expected to honour that contract, which I did. So, what's all the fuss about.

I've lost count of how many jobs I walked out on, so that evens things up. Thanks for being honourable. I guess I'm not.

There is so much conjecture/ guesswork and no of us outsiders know anything.

Despite all the tales of a fall out between OG and SP, that is only one spin on the affair.

It could be that OG Attempted to persuade Parish that keeping Marc was best for the team and that the loss of 35m was a price worth paying for the benefits the club would accrue. Maybe, after impassioned persuasion, that the director agreed with the manager.

One spin is the currently popular one involving a bust-up and another spin could be that this is what teamwork between director and head coach is all about. The club will benefit on the pitch, Guehi gets his big free transfer as well as being a regular for Palace in the run up to the World Cup.

Perhaps I'm the only one to believe that this is possible.

Maybe. Never thought of that. Why does there always have to be yang with ying?
