Marc Guéhi

This is Parish's fault, he publicly stated we would have to sell Guehi, Liverpool knew there was no rush, they could put in a bid on deadline day and it'd be accepted. Tho why the window doesn't finish before the season starts I'll never know.
Maybe it’s not his FAULT, just maybe that was his plan, he didn’t want a repeat of Newcastle last summer, keep bidding low, possibly? Or for some other reason that us mere mortals who don’t have to keep elite players happy, balance the books and keep the club competing at the highest level just don’t understand

So don't value him at 40 mill, when Liverpool are only prepared to go to 35, to then accept 35, 2 weeks later, could have already been resolved earlier in the window, instead we've now lost guehi for the Villa game with no replacement.

Parish will be doing what he believes is in the best interest of CPFC and he’s more informed in that than we are.

I’m not saying he is infallible or above criticism but under his leadership the club have gone from the brink of extinction, got progressively got better, won the FA Cup and got into Europe.

It’s all a negotiation and I’ll judge the window once it has closed. Guehi hasn’t left yet, we don’t know the fee yet and we don’t know if we have replacements yet.

I garland this comment with approbation.
Financially it is in the interests of CPFC that he departs on terms acceptable to the club rather than on a 'Free' at the end of his contract.

I can understand the valid points that you make, but come at it from a different perspective.

If Guehi stays this season he will have completed 5 years at the club having joined for £18 million.
He is quite possibly one of our lower paid players in the absence of a renewal while newcomers such as Kamada and Henderson earn significantly more.
In the crazy world of football finance, we have his services at a comparative bargain.

He's been our most consistent player over 4 years, is our captain, rarely unavailable and barely makes a mistake.
Glasner has continually expressed a desire to retain him and has suggested he is the cornerstone of our defensive solidity.

I think he's so important that he could be worth a few places in the Premier League and be the difference in how far we progress in cup competitions.
This difference can't be proved obviously, but I'm less convinced than others that he would be so easy to replace based on the few games he has missed where stand ins have featured.
Glasner doesn't sound convinced either.

Glasner also said Guehi has never asked to leave or indicated he wants to go.
He said he's fully committed to the club (unlike the likes of Isac and Wissa).
I don't run the club's finances, but 5 years of magnificent service for £18 million and not exorbitant wages sounds reasonable these days even if does leave on a free.
.... whilst his contract lasts. I don't think anyone is thinking he will down tools. It is purely a financial matter.
On balance, I'd probably like him to stay and review in January, but, at the moment I don't think we have the squad gong forward to reach European positons in the league for the forseeable future. It might be better to obtain new players and hope Glasner has worked his wonders so that we are in line for a cup win at the business end of the season

The way parish has been speaking there's no way this deal isn't happening, we've now lost a key player before a tough fixture. Its pathetic having a window open 2 weeks into the season, thats not the clubs fault but whatever deal we get from Guehi, it could have been negotiated with Liverpool weeks ago. I dont care what happens between now and the end of the window, we've been reactive and have looked amateurish this window. Even the manager has had to publicly criticise our window to try and force the board.

It's being reported that the deal hinges on whether we can get a replacement in time.
To an extent that puts the ball back in Liverpool's court.
If we've been knocked back by other experienced options such as Akanji, it may be that we've settled on Gomez i.e if you want Guehi, we want Gomez as replacement .
Over to you.

I suspect lining up a reasonable replacement has caused this to drag on.

If I was Glasner, I'd still be pissed it was so late, but be ok effectually swapping Guehi for Akanji. But not for someone untried and tested in the prem.

If we could get Diomande for £35m on a 5 year deal I would bite their hand off, otherwise I’d say no, not enough.
That’s the only way I’d let Guehi go at this late stage if we could bring in someone of equal quality..!!

If not we’ll have to swallow letting him go on a free next summer..!!

On this occasion I think it’s a combination of Guehi and Liverpool added to our late window dealing..!!
