Main Stand redevelopment thread

Sainsburys are our tenants, right?

At the end of their contractual term, we can block their right to a new lease on the ground that we intend to use the site ourselves.

However, it appears that Sainsburys had a financial involvement in the current redevelopment. This suggests that they will be here for the longer term.
Apparently Sainsbury's own the land. Remember the car park trouble? They own a part of that at least.

Sainsburys own the freehold, the title is held by Sainsburys Property Scottish Partnership.

I have made this point before, so apologies for repetition.

A capacity of 40,000 could certainly be achieved if the right deal could be done with Sainsbury's.

As can be seen from an aerial shot of selhurst, there is a large enough space between the pitch and the houses on Whitehorse Lane to replace the current stand and supermarket with a mirror of the Holmesdale stand. The Whitehorse Lane houses do not have back gardens or, I believe, rear windows, and so would not be impacted.

A project like that would replace the current 2300 capacity stand with an 8300 capacity one, an uplift of 6000. Selhurst will hold 34000 after the new main stand is finished, so there's 40000 seats overall.

Of course, Sainsbury's aren't just going to roll over and say yes, and they certainly aren't going to just disappear, but I wonder if perhaps a project like that might involve us building them a replacement store under the new stand. It's not Impossible.

The Arthur is a very different matter. As poor as it's facilities are, it holds 9500 already. Even if we replaced it with a mirror image of the new main stand, we'd only get an uplift of 4000 in capacity. Hard to see that paying for itself effectively.

Plus, there are far too many houses far too close on Park Road that would have their light and outlook decimated. There isn't a reality in which that doesn't matter or can be overcome. Perhaps, if we were a champions league regular, we could look at buying them to knock them down and replace them, but it would be fraught with difficulties. Some sort of compromise renovation of the Arthur makes more sense.
Celtic Park has 3 tall stands and one single storey yet has amazing acoustics. If we could complete the new stand, rebuild or enlarge the Whitehorse (incorporating Sainsbury’s if necessary) to match the Holmesdale, refurbish the Arthur roof and fill in the corners, we’d have a 40k plus modern ground in time for our Champions League victory!

Some one posted pics showing houses being knock down a week or so ago.
Anything else happen does any one know
There's other houses near by its not just smash it down at will , think in the phase 1 they must make sure that a house next to the project is safe and no damage to building and ground ,

Also think there maybe cable work its on here somewhere

Sainsbury's own the freehold of the site, they occupy. They have no reason to sell or move, they aren't interested in football.
Worrying about WHL stand is pointless, I would be more concerned that the main stand will be completed. If we get relegated next season, I envisage a pull back on the main stand, due to revenue drop.
The first 3 sentences were pointless because we all knew that anyway.
No one is 'worried' about the Whitehorse stand however when the Main stand is complete many of us fans would like the owners to keep striving for improvement in the stadium instead of doing nothing for another 30 years. As previously mentioned (clearly I need to repeat) if the WHL end was to be redeveloped then it would probably be in both parties interest to work together. You know, what with Sainsbury owning the land they occupy and not wanting to move.
On your last point Parish has said more than once that relegation will have no bearing on the Main Stand project. In essence, once its started its going to be seen through to its completion. What? do you think they'll just say hold up lads we've been relegated so we'll just sit here in this building site till we go back up 🤣

Just came across this. I know nothing about the creator of the video but it's pretty up to date. Interesting to see what looks like begining of a strip out of part of the main stand lounges or whatever...
