Liverpool vs. Crystal Palace League Cup match thread

I have to agree with OG's post match assessment. An OK performance in a game we should be expected to win given the Liverpool line up.

We were guilty once again of some poor final balls and decision making. And that has been the difference in other games.

Still, nice to be able to be a little critical after a 3-0 win at Anfield !

I guess Eddie's injury opens the door for Uche to prove himself.

That's really annoying. Felt he was just getting going for us and starting to positively contribute. Hopefully it's not too bad as he didn't have to pull up or anything. Glasner needs to just take a gamble and chuck Uche on up top for 20 mins now to give Mateta a break as he's gonna be absolutely shattered with all the upcoming games. If I was gonna be critical I'd have said it would have been better to bring Uche on at HT yesterday just to give him some more practice in that position.
Prior to joining us, Uche spent 2 seasons at Getafe.
He made 41 appearances and only scored 5 goals.

Hats off to Yeremy Pino for his overall contribution and the sublime finish for the goal.
He just needs to improve his decision making in respect of making tackles !
Hopefully his goal will help him settle. He must take a bit of getting used to since he often plays unexpected balls, little flicks and reverse passes so his teammates have to be alive to what he might produce.
All credit to Sarr for his performance too. He looked so fast when he was breaking they couldn't keep up with him and had no option but to bring him down and of course he took his goals very well.

How many did Mateta score for us in his first two seasons?

My suggestion isn't because I think he'll be brilliant there but we literally have no other option than burning out Mateta. I think Uche at least has the physical attributes to make a nuisance of himself up top. Usually in the last 20 mins of games that can be useful.

I was merely pointing out that to-date Uche has not got a creditable goal scoring record so perhaps too much should not be expected of him in this department.
I of course hope he makes positive contributions when he is thrust into the fray.

Strange
Last night I was dreaming of a bigger trophy cabinet at Selhurst, and this morning I have awoken with wood. 😁🫢👍
Well done to all those who made the trip.
Even our substitutes and reserves are on fire 🔥. OG is God.

This time last year prior to Spurs at home please remember many wanted him sacked.

Now a year on: cup winners, 2 major honours, in Europe, beating the champions home and away and at Wembley.

I cannot believe how its gone. I stuck with OG in the hard times, I knew he'd come good.

EAGLES!

Prior to playing Tottenham we had only collected 3 pts from 8 games, hence the reaction from certain elements of our fan base. When this subject was broached outside of HOL, my consistent message was that the season was in its infancy. Questioned by those not on HOL,I never advocated a replacement on the managerial throne.

Exactly. It was a difficult start having lost Olise but having seen what we were capable of the season before I knew it was teething troubles. I was defending him to the hilt.

Some were planning our relegation, even looking forward to those days saying it was our level. I was furious. I won't dredge up the posts but it certainly stopped me visiting the forum as much, miserable bar-stewards.

People get emotional and express it differently but 8 games in planning to go down was mental!

Agreed should have brought on Uche

Its a really odd game to draw any conclusions from. It was such a poor Liverpool team and bench anything other than a Palace win would have been pretty surprising.

So happy that Pino got a goal, and great to see some of the link up with him, Sarr and Kamada.

All of the Kamada haters surely must be convinced by now, the guy is absolutely class. We have to do everything we can to get him to re-sign.

The one negative last night was Nketiah's hamstring injury.
It looks at best something that will have managed carefully and we have 3 important games in the next 10 or so days.
I'm not sure Glasner is convinced by either Uche or Esse at present, meaning more use of Kamada or Devenny in advanced positions with Sarr down the middle if Mateta needs a rest.
Longer term Sarr and Uche will be away at Afcon and I hope we strengthen early January in an attacking position.
Glasner didn't get the second attacker in the summer who he thought would be joining, and that remains outstanding.
