Leicester City v Crystal Palace match thread

We continue to do well against the crap EPL teams and that’s a big reason we have been safe every season. Great result that tonight.

Yeah true but that’s at least something Dave!

I have my concerns but I’m just gonna celebrate it tonight and look toward the next one.

Our form is actually pretty good, stretching a few games now, so whilst we’re not dazzling I’ll just enjoy it for now and take the future as it comes.

And there are 5 teams who are 7 or more points behind us. Things look a whole lot brighter than they did.

I believe OG is a very good coach and organiser, we set up and played very well IMO. I think we have more confidence than earlier and that shows. Lacoix is superb, calm and an educated footballer!! Love what OG is doing with Sarr and Hughes, all round excellent

Willo will be along to give you a full breakdown of their results, goal scorers, shots on target, pre match meals and coach companies used for away travel. Along with a full comparison of results under Cooper versus those under RVN.

His recall about Palace is incredible however his knowledge of other teams is on a whole different level and I have never seen anything quite like it. Quite remarkable, I doff my cap.
Raucous merriment, chortles and guffaws in 'Chez Willo' 😀 😀 👍

A scrappy game against a poor side but a good 3 points. Half the team looked off it first half. Giving them the benefit of the doubt I’m putting it down to recovering from flu. Hughes did his best to control the game for the 60 minutes he was on and we looked solid once Kamada and Devenney came on. In part that might be because Eze went off. He gave the ball way so many times I was convinced they’d score a breakaway goal. Doucoure wasn’t much better. I thought Kamada and Devenney did a good job of controlling the game and seeing it out.

I think it was pretty evident that a number of our players were struggling with the flu or whatever they have got in the camp. Mateta kept blowing his nose and was well off the pace in the first half. Many of them were below par, but we still managed to pull off a great result.
Says so much about our team and management. That was a special show tonight. Fantastic team effort.
Kamada showed when he came on two things. One, he probably hasn't had the flu and two, he is now adapting to the pace of the premier. He really looked the part other than a couple of slips.
And maybe Glasner can work some magic on Nketia. But it is a very big ask.
Anyway we are on the up. Very happy tonight. Super big win. Big result.

Despite Leicester having a lot of the early play you just had the feeling whilst it looked good, it was only a matter of time before Palace got a foot hold and when we did we would score. They only in my opinion created a couple of proper chances - the Vardy one early and the header from the corner late on. Whilst we struggled to put together a decent string of passes together at times the chances we made were proper one's and Mateta is in such good form you always fancy him to put one of them away.
Defensively Henderson, Guehi, LaCroix ( particularly ) and Richards all did well. Otherwise a particularly forgettable game let's move on to Saturday.

The good news is that we’re now on 24 points , and few on here (including me )would have had us on this figure at this stage of the season after such a terrible start.

The bad news is that the board may now be complacent and decide there’s less less need to address the squad shortcomings in the transfer window.

In terms of the game I thought Hughes excelled with his interceptions and passing.
Sarr wasn’t heavily involved but hit two of the best weighted passes in the game; the first led to the Mateta goal, the second should have led to a goal for Mitchell but their keeper made a good save.
Kamada made a decent contribution and it seems evident that he and a Hughes are two of the only players prepared to make forward passes.
Wharton’s absence compounds this issue.

In fact Glasner made reference to his disappointment in the press conference about how the team ‘stopped and passed backwards.’
I think I know who this comment in particular is aimed at.

Seems we are good at grinding out results against teams in lower 3rd of PL. Hughes Saar n Geuhi were top of their game. Glasner to be congratulated on improvement in Mateta, Munoz,Mitchell , and Saar. It's a worry that our defence (except Guehi) look all so uncomfortable on the ball and lose the ball so often....we need a quarter back style andersen replacement to get the game moving....and now chalobah has gone we can use loan spot to get one in and try it out??. I thought Kamala had his best game yet and hope for more glimpses of what OG sees in him. After starting like a zombie in motion Dacoure was firing again by the end of the match....we need him. Looking forward to incomings from transfer window and return of Wharton (and Franca?). Honestly don't mind if Eze goes for a good fee....he slows everything down.

We were incomprehensibly bad in the first half, but still created enough chances to win by three or four in the end.
Not sure why Hughes came off. He was running things in the second half.

Glasner said he was struggling physically as he hadn't been able to do much in the way of training because of his foot injury. He went on to say he was pleased that Hughes managed to last as long as he did.

As for the first half performance, I suspect, amongst other things, that several players weren't fully match fit after their illnesses,

Hmmm!

Good news that it was fitness related and not a continuing or new injury.

Hughes has been superb this season. Potentially heading for his best one with us.
