Nope as I worked for 44 years for my pension. You don’t need billions to stop the boats, just a willingness to try, ie deterrents. Anyone who enters illegally should be detained in secure camps, do you disagree? What I would sacrifice is overseas aid, for ridiculous projects (see attached).
Also those with their own Space programmes and those with copious amounts of billionaires ( eg India).
What about the £111 m over 11 years to Pakistan for an accelerated Family Planning initiative.
Are you happy that any cut in your pension ( apologies if not yet in receipt but you will do) go to these
No you didn't. That is the great lie the props up the pension system.
Every penny in tax you paid was used to pay for public services you enjoyed at the time.
Your NI was used to cover sickness, unemployment etc. The clue is in the word "insurance".
The pension system was necessary in 1948 but is unnecessary in its application now. There are 12.9 million people in receipt of state pension (AND GROWING FAST) but only 1.9 million pensioners in poverty (who should receive benefit).
The disposable income of pensioners shot passed the waged many years ago. Pensioners enjoy roughly £1000 more a month than the waged than 10 years ago. Ever wonder why your visit to a new car showroom only has people your age; or why every foreign holiday you have feels like a Darby and Joan Club outing?
The state pension has become a sacred cow that cannot be removed because every selfish recipient votes.
And the word selfish is apt. If you want the greatest complaints about immigration, the loudest voices are from those of pensionable age. Just check this site. I don't disagree with the sentiment. But while you all insist on policies to curb illegal immigration to be made a priority over
all other public expenditure, the one exception is the state pension that you personally receive.
It rather devalues your argument if you are not prepared to put your money where your mouth is.
I work and am happy to pay more tax to fund it. Will you similarly accept a reduction in your state pension to achieve the same outcome?
