Labour Party politics

I used to rent property and had very long term tenants because they were good and so was I.
Almost everyone I know who rented property has sold them because of this bill.
It will do renters more harm than good and that is not a good thing.

It is not about being open minded, it is about seeing the reality of the situation
That is really good anything to wean people away from renting, paying rent and having nothing to show for it when mortgages are becoming cheaper, with a mortgage you are buying a house and owning something.

You may be right but the other scenario is that as small landlords offload their properties, large rental companies will simply buy them up and the renter is in the same position, probably worse. Whilst the accidental landlord and small landlords won't have people to sort out everything, the big boys will have departments doing the paperwork etc. all day long. This may backfire on the renter.

I have several friends who rent out property and I find it a very poor investment, the amount of headaches it comes with are astonishing.

It’s always somebody else’s fault with this lot.

The blame is now with the letting agent
When you are a politician, you are judged by a higher standard.

What she did is not a great crime, but she is the bloody chancellor, and she can't even take responsibility for her own domestic affairs.

It just looks so bad and gives the opposition an opportunity to attack.

Starmer won't sack her just before a budget, and maybe that is sensible for the country, but I'd remind everyone that this is a woman who went after Boris Johnson over cakegate like a rabid dog.

Typical Labour hypocrisy.

No hmg will help councils to buy them and put certain people in them. The bigger picture will be seen ! Renters are refusing councils who offer a years rent up front and guaranteed damage repair as they are for undesirables. I heard of two who told councils to f*** off.

I wonder how this will impact house prices. There has been a lot of talk about the negative impact on renters as Landlords take their property off the rental market.

But some people rent because they have been priced out of the market by landlords who can afford to buy a 2nd or 3rd home.

It's will be interesting to see if the buy to let market dries up will that actually help first time buyers?

Agree with this - everyone talks about landlords selling up as if that means the homes just disappear. It's obvious that if all the landlords claiming this will push them to sell try to do that, it's going to push house prices down and open up that market to people who would otherwise be stuck renting.

It's an imperfect bill in lots of ways; the tribunal system around rent raises seems particularly absurd, but the ambition to give tenants more stability is a reasonable one.

Well did Reeves not endorse the requirement in her constituency in Leeds -also her story has changed since this first came to light.
If someone approached me about a pifling detail which I was not directly involved with that was infentisimally small I would doubtlessly shrug and make an educated guess and after a little while think it over and realise that i was slightly askew and give an informed answer. When you are running the nations economy a letting agent failing to do their job is very small fry. The desperated Tory party trying once again to make a mountain out of a mole hill, there short term memory loss over the amazing whoppers told by Johnson and why he was ousted.

Forget the Tories - most people have .

You are deflecting.

Reeves got caught out and then - if it’s actually possible - further embarrassed the hapless Starmer by back tracking on her original statement .

By the way I spotted a typo in your post. You wrote “ running “, I assume you meant ruining

I also spotted there instead of their.

Poor old beak really gets hyperventilated about any suggestion that his beloved lefty chums might be in the wrong.

Unusually typo free, I won't bother to labour the point as we obviously disagree on this. You are quite correct the Tories are dead.

The income of first time buyers will not radically improve and the prices of properties will not radically fall.

Just more gaffs for sale to 2nd+ buyers and 1st timers funded by the bank of mum and dad.

And that is the great irony. A policy designed to protect the poor will actually lead to fewer properties available to them to let and still absolutely no chance of buying.

So where will they live?

Southwark council regularly prosecutes landlords for doing what Reeves has done, if she is not prosecuted it's just another example of two tier justice system.

There is no nuance to be had here.

The responsibility is with the owner not the agent.

These are the simple facts.

Spot on Owen.
Also, the rumour is that Rayner has still not settled her stamp duty bill either.
It really is one rule for this shower and another one for us.

Her home is about 7 miles from Parliament.

Why does she need a government house? If she represented Newcastle then fair enough. Gravy train, I wonder how many MPs have second homes but live in the London area.

She should get fined and then she should seek redress from the agent.
