Labour Party politics

Winning an election is a success for a party not for a government.
£40 million is 0.02% of the NHS annual budget.
The One in One out policy is utter nonsense.
Railway strikes are planned for this Saturday.
It's actually easier to be in opposition than to govern, obviously when there's no money doesn't help but they need time to learn how to manage departments.

On this George we are in complete agreement.

And this is a world I do understand.

Unlike Labour.

I did not vote Labour but unlike most of you I want them to do well. I live here! But this Act is a catastrophe for the private rental sector.
I have a property in the north of England I inherited, it has been rented for four years with marginal return, I am npw selling it as this Govt will make it too difficult to be a landlord.

Yes, there will be far less rental accommodation available and of course that will mean rises in rents. As is very often the case, Left policies have the opposite effect to what they supposedly want to achieve.

The new Bill will be a disaster.
Like everything else that Governments do, they do not look at the bigger picture.
Do Tenants need protection and a decent standard of property - of course they do and good Landlords ensure that it happens.
They just needed to crack down on the unscrupulous ones - not everyone.
Now, the decent Landlords will stop renting and the dodgy ones will just continue.
Dodgy tenants now have right on their side and will ruin Landlords lives - if they so wish to, while being protected by a court system that is running years behind.
It is a right mess and both the Tories and this lot should hang their heads in shame.

I really appreciate someone with an open minded approach, lets hope one comes along later.

Not always but in this case yes.

Trouble is the Act is genuinely well intended. It actually seeks to improve the lives of tenants. However, ir grossly overstates the incidences of revenge eviction and ignores the fact that for every rogue landlord there are a thousand bad tenants.

In this it was a knee jerk political reaction to adverse anti landlord publicity.

Bad reason. Bad law.

I wonder how this will impact house prices. There has been a lot of talk about the negative impact on renters as Landlords take their property off the rental market.

But some people rent because they have been priced out of the market by landlords who can afford to buy a 2nd or 3rd home.

It's will be interesting to see if the buy to let market dries up will that actually help first time buyers?

Some of the media are now claiming they have proof that Rachel from Accounts has lied.

She initially told Starmer it was a genuine mistake that she didn't know she needed a licence.

However emails have now emerged that indicate she did know so her story has now changed to it's a mistake by my property agent, not me.

As she actually campaigned for the licencing of Landlords I think this is the more likely explanation, that between her and the agent they screwed up.

The papers are also full of people who did the same and were fined tens of thousands by the local authority.

Southwark is Labour, if they have any sense they will fine her in line with other people who have made that mistake.

If they don't (more than likely) they will open themselves up to lawsuits from people who had been fined or are about to be fined.

I'm not buying into the it's trivial argument. Johnson lost his job over a piece of birthday cake whilst Starmer was let off because his was a work related beer. So trivial does matter when it's the other party.

My guess is that Starmer is hoping to hold onto her until after the budget when she will be made to fall on her sword by breaking election promises on tax. He can then bring in a new (not me guv) Chancellor.

Will the media get her sacked before then?

I am not sure that it is a sackable offence but there is more to it.
They knew they needed a licence.
They knew it would cost £945.
That bill never appeared so why not question where the licence was?
Murky and given her position they should have been all over it.
She needs a public reprimand

It's the cover up always the cover up. 😀

I used to rent property and had very long term tenants because they were good and so was I.
Almost everyone I know who rented property has sold them because of this bill.
It will do renters more harm than good and that is not a good thing.
It is not about being open minded, it is about seeing the reality of the situation

This is the woman that makes you pay tax. She is the chancellor and yet doesn't pay for a renting licence.
It's a terrible look, coming very soon after Rainer resigns for another property related offence.

Labour are a shambolic disgrace.
