Hopefully they will against PompeyI can't understand why the club has never given him a testimonial.

Football tends to place money over sentiment so the club must have thought he still had/has some value even if only as cover. We should have said goodbye to him in the summer with some other the other players who went.
He contributes nothing and is taking up a spot in the senior squad plus costing the club millions.
Too chummy with Parish which is why he was kept.
That’s the spirit….there’s always a bright side ! 🙂We should have said goodbye to him in the summer with some other the other players who went.

Even if Mark Bright singing Mr. Brightside in Brighton couldn't find it.That’s the spirit….there’s always a bright side ! 🙂
This thread feels, to me, a tad premature to be discussing Joel's departure when there hasn't yet been any announcement from the club.
He's taken a lot of stick on here in the past, but here's little doubt he's has been an outstandingly loyal and valuable member of our squad who will only play for us again if there is a really serious injury situation. That's fine and shows a good mark of respect from the club at the moment. We can expect him to leave or maybe take up a non playing role in the summer.
A testimonial would seem a fitting tribute and I like Lanzo's suggestion that Pompey would be a suitable opponent. In the meantime I hope he continues to support his teammates from the dugout. An all round decent bloke.
does he need one? He's been on over £30k a week for the last 10 years or so, so must be a multi millionaire by now.I can't understand why the club has never given him a testimonial.
It's not just about the money though and a lot of players donate the proceeds to charity. It's also a chance for the fans to show their appreciation for a long serving player.does he need one? He's been on over £30k a week for the last 10 years or so, so must be a multi millionaire by now.
Not knocking him, but the reason for testimonials is to give the player a financial boost at the end of their career.
Arguably giving him an extra contract last summer when he was never going to play was SP's way of thanking him for his services (as he did with others e.g. Paddy Mac, DD etc)
To paraphrase you from another thread . . . "another idiot to add to the ignore list" nes pa?does he need one? He's been on over £30k a week for the last 10 years or so, so must be a multi millionaire by now.

Lovely sentiments to our longest serving player, all the best to you tooWe should have said goodbye to him in the summer with some other the other players who went.
