Is that the most humiliating defeat in the club's history?

For most of the club's history, we haven't been good enough to be truly humiliated so this must rank up there. Given our recent trophies and unbeaten run, to suffer a home defeat to a team most would probably not have heard of before the draw and who would be hard pressed to be considered a top 200 club in the world is pretty damning
Given that it was not our best starting line-up, we at least tried and that it does not mean we are out of the competition I would say not, but it is a bit hard to think of alternative options. It wasn't 9-0, but then that was away to the best team in the league.
The ones that I attended that sting particularly were a 4-1 home defeat to Chesterfield where we played abjectly and a 3-0(?) away loss to Brighton where one of their goals came directly from a corner to us. But at least they were teams of comparable standing
Have we ever been turned over by a non-league side in the FA Cup or suffered a similar upset?

this defeat was waiting to happen look how badly we have played against millwall and that norwegian team we do not have a clue when teams play 10 at the back 🙁

That was the most awful thing about this defeat, that Larnaca didn't play 10 at the back.In fact their set-up was,on the face of it,possibly suicidal. A high press and huge gaps between the lines, yust waiting to be exploited. But we didn't do the job.I hope we don't live to regret this result.

A wake up call to not disrespect the opposition in this competition. Just turning up doesn't guarantee the win.

Our first ever season in Europe against teams we have played in it before. The loss will do us good.

We were also due a bumpy patch. Get arsenal and Liverpool games out of the way and then go again.

My thoughts precisely. The og post use of the word "humiliating" is off target, like most of our efforts on goal...
Credit to them for doing what they came to do. Perhaps Glasner underestimated them and overestimated our ability to break them down.

I wouldn’t say it was humiliating at all, it was a crap performance that’s all, we’re novices at European football, they did a number on us. But I’m certainly not humiliated, we’ve seen we can dominate teams at this level in Poland and we’ve got four games to put this right

I’ve been joking about waiting 50 years to watch this s***, but seriously I’m still chuffed to be part of it and as long as we finish in that top 24 and get another crack at it in the new year I’ll be happy.

Humiliated?Nah,no-one watches TNT anyway🤣

Much as I love the HF, that tifo referring to the 'little' tournament didn't help matters.

We mustn't become complacent, as fans or as a team.

We have been knocked out cups by the likes of Hartlepool and Doncaster.

Been drubbed 0-3 at home to Grimsby and 1-4 to Scunthorpe.

Not forgetting the 9-0 at Anfield of course.

The more I think about it, last night was a pretty good result 😉

I just don’t see it as humiliating. Humbling yes but not humiliating. And it could be the best thing to happen as we were getting far too many plaudits that we are the big fish in this little pond.
We face the very real prospect of having played 5 lost 4 drawn 1 by this time next week. Hopefully this will be a wake up call.

Look at our chances missed against Liverpool, Everton, Bournemouth and last night. That is a big worry but we are getting those chances. That is the difference between finishing 14 - 10 and finishing top 6 in my view.

Things always appear worse when you are on a pedestal and look down, not to many years ago we were praying for something agaist Stockport and not unhappy at drawing at home to Tranmere who had a keeper called Clattenburg who punched one of our forwards flat out.

I believe you are referring to John Achterberg who was known for coming off his line for through balls etc etc.

We seem to be a counter-attacking team of such long-standing tradition that when we gain the lion's share of possession as we did last night, we don't appear to be able to build offensively and finish decisively.

Set pieces have greatly improved but we seemed devoid of ideas last night when we needed to get touches in the box.

Not the most humiliating defeat in our history but it was certainly a shocker!

I rarely wake up after a defeat and feel deflated…but I did today. It really was poor and a combination of not trying hard enough, not wanting it enough, some questionable squad rotation and Mateta being s*** again in front of goal caused us a total and unnecessary f*** up!

I love Glasner but he made a mistake yesterday not starting one of Kamada or Wharton. Playing Lerma & Hughes together against a defensive team killed us.

Canvot looked off the pace and nothing like the player in his debut against Millwall. His mistake was what gifted them the goal but it was certainly a well taken finish and we just couldn’t find a response after that. It was unfortunately just one of those games where we were destined not to score.

Poor.

Yes,and I was going to write a long piece about how 3rd rate the Palace players were. But,like the Palace players,I just couldn't be bothered.
This is true tripe. I know frustration brings illogical responses but 16 good attempts at goal (at least four of which should have been converted) could not be further away from not being bothered.
Our finishing has been a concern for some weeks now. JPM missed great chances against Liverpool but the Eddie winner glossed over that. He missed open goals against Kiev, Everton, Bournemouth and last night. Everything else was decent quality. We weren't at our best thats true but it wasn't the worst performance we have ever seen. I've seen far worse than that many times down the years.

Finishing is Palace's glaring issue right now. Now whether dropping JPM or working harder on his finishing is for Glasner and his coaches to decide what is for the best. The problem is its difficult to criticize him in for example the Bournemouth game when he gets a hatrick but we all know quite realistically with the brilliant chances laid on for him he should have scored at least 5. That might sound unreasonable but its a fact.
