Is that the most humiliating defeat in the club's history?

it's easy to underestimate teams from Cyprus - Nicosia were competitive in the Champions League a few years back and I remember a team called Larissa who beat one of Mark Hughes's sides in Europe (Blackburn, Stoke, Man City?). I don't know the population size but it is full of Greeks and Turks and both those are passionate about football and have plenty of pedigree. Worst defeat 0-5 v Wimbledon at home Feb 85 with their fans singing 'team of the 80s'. It doesn't get any worse, the nearest I've come to hooliganism - a big fat bespectacled Dons fan shouting 'we want six' next to me.

I am inclined to think it was Blackburn but my thinking might be wide of the mark.

Only the oldies will remember this one. FA Cup tie at home us {a fully professional 3rd Div team versus a full amateur team called Bishop Auckland result was Palace 2 Bishop Auckland 4.

Embarassing?? You'd better believe it.

i saw several Shrewsbury debacles.
one on a wet midweek evening game , I think they scored with only shot of the game, winning 0-1.
Shrewsbury Town was the first ever Palace defeat I remember seeing live. A paradigm shattering 1-2 home defeat in the 1987-1988 season after we had been on a sparkling run of home form.

An ageing Jim Cannon being dragged wide on the half way line. A long ball over the top when his lunging diving header to put the ball out was missed. A decent cross across the six yard box. A tap in. And then the away fan noise which was markedly different to "our" noise when we scored. A sad day but a rite of passage!

it was a night game wasn't it? When people moan these days us veteran fans just think of 'Shrewsbury' and we immediately rekindle our gratitude for our current condition, the same could be said for Aldershot, Peterborough or Chesterfield.

My second team and closer to home. I used to support them as a boy when I went to stay with grandparents in Derbyshire. Always had a soft spot for them since. In fact will probably start going to see them again when I find the 7 hour return trip to South London too much for me.

John Pemberton had a spell as Chesterfield manager.

I recall going to see our team home to Chesterfield in 1976.It ended 0-0 and after the game I made my way to a colleague's wedding reception.

My memory was it was bright sun but that could be mistaken for floodlights I guess!

My formative years saw losses against Bradford City at home (missing a penalty in the same game. Amazing save in the bottom corner from memory), Shrewsbury and tough matches against Oldham. Different times indeed.
