Is that the most humiliating defeat in the club's history?

I don’t think it was the most humiliating game we’ve lost but it’s up there with all those other matches mentioned in this thread. This time last season it wouldn’t have hurt any where near as bad as now. Reason being is that most if not all us Palace fans have been on such a high having won the FA Cup, the community shield and been on this long not losing streak. All of a sudden we have been brought back to earth with the Everton defeat, nearly losing to Bournemouth and then this defeat to Larnaca. I believe we thought we had joined the big boys, even that banner before the match has kinda humiliated us with that defeat. All of a sudden those Chelsea and Spurs and (any top side) fans / friends of ours can pick on us again. It hurts, we aren’t as good now as we thought we are or would be this season. Oh well, Arsenal tomorrow and Liverpool next Wednesday :-(

To be honest, given the depth of our squad, I never had the lofty expectations of some of our supporters. I have ridiculed those who opined that we could finish in the 'Top Eight' and have been met by volleys of disobliging comments centred on my 'Negativity'.

This is true tripe. I know frustration brings illogical responses but 16 good attempts at goal (at least four of which should have been converted) could not be further away from not being bothered.
Our finishing has been a concern for some weeks now. JPM missed great chances against Liverpool but the Eddie winner glossed over that. He missed open goals against Kiev, Everton, Bournemouth and last night. Everything else was decent quality. We weren't at our best thats true but it wasn't the worst performance we have ever seen. I've seen far worse than that many times down the years.

Finishing is Palace's glaring issue right now. Now whether dropping JPM or working harder on his finishing is for Glasner and his coaches to decide what is for the best. The problem is its difficult to criticize him in for example the Bournemouth game when he gets a hatrick but we all know quite realistically with the brilliant chances laid on for him he should have scored at least 5. That might sound unreasonable but its a fact.
Not forgetting against Millwall in the dying embers of the game.
The positive aspect is that he is being presented with these chances.

Thats very true and thank God for that but the wins (and last minute draw) have glossed over the fact that JPM is missing too many open goals. His finishing needs work. Even the results obsessed media are starting to ignore the goals and focus on his misses. I'm sure Glasner is on to it but this needs addressing before it becomes a bigger problem.
The day will come when we are only able to carve out 2 or 3 chances in a game. If JPM needs 5 chances to score one goal thats a problem.

Yep, it has already impacted us, and will do more so if it continues.

Its clear that JP is a far superior player than in his early days with us, but its also clear that the team is set up to deliver him chances, and is doing that very effectively. He's effectively had more chances than any other player in Europe except Haaland.

From the Analyst.com

"While Mateta’s total included a penalty, which always comes with an xG value of 0.79, his 2.88 non-penalty xG is the only example this season of a player having more than 2.0 non-pen xG in a Premier League game.

His start to this season has been especially impressive. He is the only player other than Haaland (1.14) in Europe’s top five leagues to average more than 1.0 xG per 90 (1.01 – minimum 300 minutes played), while he is also only second to Haaland (1.14) in non-penalty xG per 90 (0.8).

That could well be because he is getting more chances. Mateta has attempted 28 shots in the Premier League, at least seven more than any other player except Haaland (34). His shots per 90 have gone up from 1.8 in 2023-24 and 2.4 in 2024-25 to 3.6 this season."

Humiliation, Brighton 4 - 0 Palace U18's Palace ended with 8 players, 3 red cards. 15min, 85min, 89min & Brighton also had a player sent off(89).
You can get some funny underage games though can't you? Although I've probably been to a lot of our worst defeats where I suspected the youth team would be better.
Someone mentioned an awful game above. But there was one bright spark in that. Moses was 18 or 19 and was our only decent player in that game.

We were not humiliated, it was a shock... but that's it. An error led to their goal and we didn't take our chances.

We dust ourselves down and move on..

OG has to show he can work out this conundrum...
