Yup fair enough. I did think about that before saying it.I meant the phrase activist receptionist 🙂
There's a whole black economy going on, as would be expected in Africa, Arab states, India and Pakistan. Where all our doctors are from. From health tourism to family friends and those who pay in cash. It's been known about for years but nothing is going to be done.Yup fair enough. I did think about that before saying it.
I have listened to lots of phone ins where front line NHS have called in and claimed that they deliberately accepted people they shouldn't have.
How often that happens where someone turns a blind eye I really don't know but the point about the story is that most of the non payment was elective surgery we are not talking about a foreigner having a heart attack.
Certain hospitals had a very high case of non payment which then made me wonder. Is this front line staff or bad management?
Anyway the whole issue is systematic of the problems of the NHS, you can have as many rules as you like but if the management and staff don’t or wont follow them...
Personally I would deduct the unpaid fees from the hospital budgets and ban any bonuses, that should concentrate a few minds.

As I said I don't know the who's are the why's it would not surpise me though. There's a whole black economy going on, as would be expected in Africa, Arab states, India and Pakistan. This is true. If they leave the country without paying and try to re-enter, technically they can be refused entry.I don’t think the nhs can charge at source.
Invoices are sent and hoped to be paid.
Lots offer to pay at source but are told the above I think. WE will know his mrs lives in hospital working !
Did this take place in the Tory half of the year or after Labour's landslide victory?NHS wrote off £250m last year due to unpaid bills from foreigners. Apparently not all hospitals responded to the request so the figure is likely to be higher.
Certain hospitals really stand out out which suggests either gross incompetence or somebody choosing to look the other way.
Much of the unpaid bills relates to elective surgery as opposed to emergency treatment.
Still it's only (our) money. Sigh.
Well if this is true that stinks. Money up front please or an authorisation code from your insurance company.I don’t think the nhs can charge at source.
Invoices are sent and hoped to be paid.

I refrained from blaming labour as this has been going on for decades all I have said is good luck to Wes Streeting in sorting it out.Did this take place in the Tory half of the year or after Labour's landslide victory?
I assume you were asking as part of your job? If they refuse to co-operate the government should threaten to cut off their funding. This is true. If they leave the country without paying and try to re-enter, technically they can be refused entry.
A lot of my communication was with GP surgeries, many of which flatly refused to cooperate, I suspect many had never asked for the patient’s eligibility, which, to a certain extent is understandable given the possibility of being branded a racist for asking.
I was not suggesting anything of the sort,i just wondered.I refrained from blaming labour as this has been going on for decades all I have said is good luck to Wes Streeting in sorting it out.
If only 😂I assume you were asking as part of your job? If they refuse to co-operate the government should threaten to cut off their funding.
Unfortunately it is not a legal requirement to have travel insurance to enter the UKWell if this is true that stinks. Money up front please or an authorisation code from your insurance company.
She has no experience in this and is unaware of anyone not entitled to NHS treatment being referred to her department.I don’t think the nhs can charge at source.

Fair play wissies but as I said the nhs isn’t set up to be paid for treatment. Too much admin, security, insurance , safety etc.She has no experience in this and is unaware of anyone not entitled to NHS treatment being referred to her department.
The only experience I had was a couple of years ago when a visitor from the USA arrived feeling unwell. We took him to our local surgery where he was seen and prescribed medication, which quickly put him right. Nothing was charged, either by the doctor or the pharmacy, even though an offer was made to pay. I guess the admin was not worth the return.
I think the issue is:Unfortunately it is not a legal requirement to have travel insurance to enter the UK
