In any event not providing support would make things worse, not better. Hungry and cold people steal. Compassionate people seeing starving children step in to help and put political pressure on governments and protest. Breaking international treaties damages our reputation as a trusted partner and pioneer in human rights built up over centuries.

Stopping the trade is the answer. Not hurting those exploited by it.

The Vietnamese specialise in nail bars and cannabis growing , the former seldom visited by immigration officers and the latter is a booming business as the police don't seem to care and figures Like Sadick Khun want to legalise it.

The tragic case of the 2019 deaths highlights that all the dead came from relatively well off villages and were purely economic illegal migrants who woujld have worked in the black economy.

I travel to Vietnam regularly, the economy is booming nationwide, all people have access to basics such as medical care, education etc. It is a safe country with low crime . Salaries are of course low compared to the UK but so is the cost of living.

i was in Vietnam last year. The country only really starting to rebuild in the late nineties it's amazing how much they have done in 20 years. Still plenty to do but I would say it's the next Taiwan / South Korea.

Were you alive back then? I was. Industrial action was wrecking the country, and Jim Callaghan gave the big unions what they wanted every time. Britain was a laughing stock. Heath tried to combat the unions and lost. Thatcher was made of different stuff. She brought back some pride.
The North suffered because the miners union went too far under Scargill, and the coal mining industry got destroyed as a result. They unions brought it on themselves and their members paid the price.

I don't read the Daily Mail Spin Boy.

Labour cancelled the one deterrent in place and have seen migrant numbers surge.
By ditching Rwanda, they have caused massive problems in Northern Ireland and opened the floodgates to spongers from everywhere.
They have achieved nothing visible in stopping the boats.

How is Farage responsible for their uselessness? He has helped expose the extent of the problem.

Is that don't read or is the Daily Mail you don't read? The reason a lot of people are frustrated by immigration is the interminable building of new houses without the infrastructure to support them, no new hospitals ,no new prisons, no sewage work, no schools etc etc.The Country is creaking under the stress of it .This applies to Governments of all hues

Being hungry and cold and their children starving would perhaps make them reconsider the wisdom of their enterprise.

Becoming an increasingly popular retirement destination.
