How far can we go?

Ok, it’s a sunny morning the day after a fabulous win against a team worth a Billion on paper and the current league champions and many people’s tip to win again and the champions league.

After watching MOTD and finally getting the praise we have deserved, how far can we go this year?

Serious question and not one I’m asking with my Palace Forever specs on. Ollie has built a seriously good ‘team’ one with a foundation in what has to be one of, if not the best back 3 around. Ollie has made players, good players out of Richards and Mitchell. The former looks a £50 million defender and the later surely the most improved player in the team and due a call up for England. It took him a while but Mitchell is now getting forward like Munoz but still a better defender. I think the competition from Sosa has helped.

Villa did what we are doing now 2 seasons ago, s*** bag Forest nearly did it last year… could we actually skip past the Europa League and push for a place in the Champions league? I know I know…. I’m not getting carried away, but after the cup final and with all the s*** thrown our way, late signings, losing Eze you would think we would struggle, but Ollie’s foundation is so strong, his message so clear that we just keep going. It’s amazing when you think where we were when he came in.

I’m struggling to take it in, end of September and we are 2nd and unbeaten. That is wild. Surely Ollie gets manager of the month?

I don’t think it’s unrealistic to think we will pick up a trophy again this season. That is crazy when we can actually think like that without people thinking we are mental. Also strange hoping that Arsenal or City, Chelsea, Newcastle lose so they stay behind us in CL spots, instead of looking what Brentford, Wet Spam, Wolves etc are doing so we are not in relegation places. Amazing.

Long long may this continue. COYP.

We're by far the best coached team in the league. Arsenal, Liverpool and city will all take 1-3, but 4th and 5th place, which England will likely get again, are anyones. Chelsea again have made too many changes and won't find rhythm till after Christmas, Newcastle have lost a guaranteed 20 goals, villa have started poor, and dont look the same team they have been, Man u are a complete mess, Frank will improve spurs but he will need a season.

This is a great chance for a club like us, brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford to compete for a champions league spot this year. We've got the best manager and are the best team without the ball but its how we adapt to playing both league and European football. The other teams mentioned have the luxury of just concentrating on the league.

I just feel that with the conference league games towards the end of the season we will tire. It has happened to a lot of teams playing Europe in the past come the end of the season they miss out.

But who knows? That man Oliver Glasner has me believing in anything.

I’m just pleased we’re getting points on the board early, because I’m sure we all know it’s going to get tough when the inevitable injuries and suspensions start to kick in when the games are coming thick and fast when the conference starts.
As I’ve heard a lot of pundits say, if we can keep this team fit and on the pitch we could be in for another great season, but that’s a big if in a long season

Thats my feeling. I'm enjoying every moment of this, but just want points on the board. Its silly to be thinking about the end of the season now.

Would be great (assuming we make it out of the group) to be able to rest players before the bigger European knock out games.

Could not agree more.

Given our squad depth and the propensity for some players to pick up injuries (Wharton; Kamada; Sarr; early days but I suspect Pino) I think we absolutely do need to take it one game at a time, get points on the board and enjoy the ride.

I'm still looking over my shoulder for the next twenty -eight to make forty and safety.

January will be crucial if doing well to bring in one or two to keep it fresh

Joking aside, the "perfect storm" could happen again. Palace, Sunderland and Bournemouth are there for a reason, because the big clubs are still trying to work out how to get £100m players to look like £100m players. I don't really think we WILL win the league, but I think it's up for grabs, despite Liverpool winning their first five games (unconvincingly). It's not impossible.

After yesterday's determined yet classy performance I dont see anything you suggest as unrealistic. As fans we have the luxury of being able to dream. Why not? I believe in this Palace team more than I have ever believed in any Palace team of the past.
I think actually predicting any specific trophy or success at this early stage is naive but if we stay relatively injury/suspension free, if we keep Glasner for the entirety of the season I honestly dont see Palace finishing outside the top 8 places and I cant see any reason why we couldn't win another trophy.

Ebs must be questioning his decision to leave! 😉

Every team is going to fear Palace, because Palace are going for a win.
We're not here to barricade our goal, play hoofball, or grind out a draw.
Palace want 3 points
It's going to make the opposition pensive as to how to counter us.

It’s a big ask. Leicester achieved the miracle but were fortunate they avoided any serious injuries and the top clubs were in transition. If we can keep our best eleven on the pitch and get Riad and Doucoure back and playing well to strengthen the squad anything is possible. Qualifying for the Europa League by our league position would be a major achievement and if Ollie can be persuaded to stay then next season could be even better.
