People are barking up the wrong tree here. A jury would have likely found Lucy innocent too. The system kind of works well. However...

The "two-tier" people refer to is when Starmer smeared Lucy and others as "far right" which could have influenced a jury. Especially if members were particularly sensitive to racism.

Lucy was twice denied bail and Ricky was allowed bail right away.

Lucy got a disproportionately large sentence for a tweet she deleted. The judge parroted Starmer's talking points and did not show judicial restraint.

Personally I regard that as highly unlikely.

About as likely as the OJ Simpson jury was to find him guilty....which had a mountain of evidence....As in that case I think it's probable that the selected jury were thick as two short planks and if the jury demographics reflected the area, racially biased to boot.

Perhaps but more likely scared stiff. Because it was televised the public knew who was on the jury as they were mainly black and lived in black areas, what would you have done?

As a black friend at the time pointed out, after the trial they have to go back and live in those communities. It's why trials like that should never be televised, jury names should be secret and especially how they vote.

Data about convictions rates by court is deliberately hidden but I remember a journalist who had done some research into several courts which were notorious for not guilty verdicts. From memory one was in Liverpool the other in London their conviction rates were massively below the average.

sorry mate. Its like getting the wrong change at a funfair. You could ascribe it to a harmless error, and random chance. But after ten 'mistakes' that all work to the favour of the vendor....only a fool would still believe in fairness.

That is why it is of such importance. You think all is well because he was found not guilty? Then you are one of them. You think it an utter travesty? One of us. We can disagree about all sorts but on this single issue, then a pivot point on the friend/enemy definition.
