Guehi to Liverpool Jan?

There are already a number of clubs desperate to sign Guehi now to fill problem areas in defence. Real Madrid, ManU, Liverpool, Bayern come immediately to mind. He will get a huge signing on fee anyway because the demand is there. If he doesn’t move in January Palace lose out big time. Since the Euros a have noticed a number of silly mistakes coming into his game. Not many I admit but more than prior to the competition. A £30 million fee plus maybe £10 million from our resources received now would allow us to find a quality centre back, maybe not quite the same standard but nevertheless someone we can develop. How many are looking for a club in January to play regularly and cement their places in a National team destined for the World Cup. Keeping Guehi will cost us circa £40 million replacing him £30 million which could have been used for other positions.

Of course Oliver Glasner and supporters want Guehi to stay beyond January but as you have highlighted there is a substantial financial implication if he continues to end of his contract.
I will fully understand if the club accept an offer in January.

Whichever suitors Guehi has, they will only give us decent money if they are desperate for him now, or worried about missing out on him come summer.

I suppose we could start hawking him about to as many big clubs as we can, leak all sorts of excitable stories to the press, and hope that one out of Liverpool, City, Bayern, Madrid, Barcelona etc panics and offers £20m+ for fear of losing out on him, that Guehi accepts the move, and that Glasner doesn't have a coronary on the spot. All sounds a bit dubious to me, though.

For one thing, the first and second parts of the equation are out of our hands. I'm sure all those clubs would like to have him, but I'm not sure any of them desperately need him right now. Liverpool have the greatest need, but they still have Konate at least until the summer, and have brought in so many players that they are all of a jumble and increasingly reverting to tried and trusted selections to get them back on track. Plus, how much would they actually pay for him now?

In any event, if I were Geuhi I would sit still and cash in royally come the summer with a huge signing on fee somewhere. He can sign a pre-contract with foreign clubs from Jan anyway, so its not like he has to worry that his move will collapse if he gets injured playing for us.

If we sold Guehi now, whilst still in the cups, Europe, and fighting for European qualification though the league, I imagine that would be the end of Glasner. I don't expect him to stay anyway, but that would make his mind up.

Most importantly of all, it's now at the stage where the fee we could get for Guehi might not be so much more than the value of European qualification next season. It might make better business sense to just keep him. He will want to play well to create the best options come summer, and force his way in with England. Plus he seems a good egg, and unlikely to down tools anyway.

He's a wonderful player, possibly our classiest centre half ever, but I'd sell to the highest offer, although I accept MG will have a say on the matter.

I think we need to accept our financial situation and we cannot allow our best players to go for nothing. If we get an offer and Marc wants to go we and manager have to accept it . I don't think it will be Liverpool but City who make an offer, we are supposed to be interested in Bobb and the young striker on loan at Stoke. We maybe able to do a deal with one or both joining us. I also think City would be willing to loan Ake for rest of season, this would placate Glasner as he would have an EPL proven central defender. The alternative is us losing him for nothing and not having money for replacement unless we sell someone else.

There wasn't any talk of a top foreign club putting in an offer in the summer so I think Liverpool, or feasibly City, are the only ones who might make an offer now as he might help them get a Champions League place or win the league, respectively
I suspect he will be well aware of which foreign clubs want him and, if they can match a British club's offer, the sensible approach would be to sign a pre-contract with one of them just in case he receives a career-ending injury before the end of the season. Unless he is set on a particular club, that could come down to the end of January. I would hope he would let the club know his general direction sooner. The only cards Palace might have if they want to sell him is that he could get higher wages and Champions League football sooner, elsewhere. I think Tuchel knows his capabilities enough by now so WC selection is not an issue
Whatever he decides, he has been a great player for the club and good value too. The captain has only the joint 11th highest salary on the club, which is quite the anomaly

I cannot envisage a reason why Man C would be prepared to Loan Ake. The financials will not be an issue for Man C and Ake is hardly a young player who could develop by playing regularly.

I'm not sure we'll buy a replacement if Guehi left in Jan, Canvot appears to be the current replacement. Anyone bought in will need to be up to speed as soon as they arrive, which short of Chabolah, I'm not sure exists.
More Likely is that we would use the money on other areas - like Boey or Johnson to help out in areas our current squad can't fill.

.. but unless there's a personal connection with 'pool, I can see him waiting for Real to come knocking in the summer.

No replacement would be a disaster. Would mean back 3 pretty much having to play every game. Injuries and suspensions and our season would risk folding like a pack of cards

Ake has been entering the fray from the bench in recent games.
I cannot envisage a reason why Man C would be prepared to Loan Ake. The financials will not be an issue for Man C and Ake is hardly a young player who could develop by playing regularly.

Ake is apparently worried his lack of minutes will effect his world Cup hopes and he will press for January move. Yes he is hardly young but if Geuhi leaves in January we need a short term replacement until Riad proves his fitness. This is why if it were to happen would be a Loan.

Canvot is a great talent but is only 19 and had only played c 20 1st team games when we signed him.

He is still learning the game and adapting to a foreign country. I would be happy to play him but to expect him to be a like for like replacement for MG is madness.

Similarly i think Lacroix has played every minute of every game this season.

If MG goes we need at least 1 CB coming in, arguably 2 if Lerma is to be used as a CM only.

Canvot looks like he's is going to be a star.

The only difference with the previous signings mentioned is that they were replacing the likes of Scott Dann, and Cahill etc so even when raw, the new guys were clearly an upgrade.

When replacing one of the best defenders in the league, ANYONE will be a step down.

But, we have a solid defensive unit that has looked ok with the odd bit of chopping and changing (Canvot, Clyne etc)
