Glasner, Part 2

You have to remember that we're playing with a championship left back and Eze who has been utterly dire all season even before the injury. Thats leaving us with only one decent side of the pitch. Drop Eze for a bit and find out why he looks like he can't be bothered and finally get in a good left back and Im convinced we'll look ten times better.
I think we have a top quality left back that is trying his best to be a wing back - and isn’t .

If we had more strength in depth in the squad then Eze’s place wouldn’t be guaranteed as it is now. And even then, although his overall involvement/performances have generally been below par, he has still been making meaningful contributions ( ball to Munoz on Saturday being an example ). He’s a real frustration at the moment

And yet he hasn't spent a minute of his career in the Championship 🤣

One thing I do like about Glasner. He really goes for it in the cups.

Seems to me we've got a bit of an issue playing at home this season. I agree that the formation could play a part, but I think yesterday the game was decided on some fine margins (and a ridiculous infringement by our captain: reward of getting to the ball first vs risk of a retake clearly not worth it, but hey these things happen).

I know Wharton's not coming back soon, but maybe Franca will return and slalom his way to goal in front of the Holmesdale End!

I'll put a bet with you that Franca will do absolutely nothing.

Although i am not advocating his immediate dismissal from the managers job, i still am not sure he is the correct manager for us, his infatuation with a system that doesn't bring out the attacking instincts from the lack of attacking players, shackled by the rigidness of our system, we must be the easiest team to play against, you know exactly how we are going to play, I am still not confident we will survive relegation this season, which i should be with the players we have, compared to Fulham, Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton, i think if you picked a combined 11 from the 5 teams we would have more players in it than the other teams, but Glasner certainly wouldn't be the manager, Tin hat ready 😊

And yet if you chop and change the system everyone says you have no identity and they can’t see how a team is supposed to be playing.

Plus I hate the way we’re compared to these other teams. All these teams are having their moments in time. If they can sustain it for the eleven competitive years we’ve had in the premier league then there’s a comparison to be had, but at the moment, they’re just moments in time that could quite easily go tits up, just the same as with us

But don't worry Glasner will prob get fed up and walk sooner or later and then we will get dyche in to steady the ship. We will go back to 4 at the back 1 up top and you know the rest....

That’s exactly why I try hard not to slate Ollie off for anything really(apart from playing Kamada) 😀 because it’s that well used saying in football now ‘be careful what you wish for’ I’m not sure I could take it if Dyche got the job

In that Netflix doc Mission to Burnley, Kompany says a team with a good manager and average players will not get anywhere. A team with good players and a poor manager will always get better results. A generalisation clearly but probably something in that. To me we’re where we deserve to be in the league with the squad we’ve got. You could put Slott or Artera or Guardiola in charge and would they do any better?

Gave me a laugh

Maybe Slot but Arteta and Guardiola would have a heart attack if they saw our squad. Slot seems quite practical.

Napoleon would disagree(no he didn't manage a football team) " better a lion leading rabbits than a rabbit leading lions". Without good leadership any enterprise must fail.

Glasner has some flaws just like any other manager. However, I do think he is the right fit for us; we just need to bring in some more depth that aligns with his vision of how he wants to set us up.

I know easier said than done, but for me its simple: If you as an owner have full faith in your manager, then do whatever you can to get the pieces in that he wants.

The one thing Mitchell isn't is a Championship left back. His stats as a LB defender leave the vast majority of the PL LBs behind. What he's not is a LWB and that's not his fault. One has to blame the club for its failure over the Summer to bring a proper LWB in to replace Mitchell. We're still waiting for one.

Maybe i am Willo 2, looking at worst case Scenario, i like Glasner as a person, but i hate the system.

i sort of agree to an extent. OG was the level head we needed last year and by the end of the season we were fantastic. OG seems a really nice, calm guy and i certainly don't like the hire and fire circus that elite football has become.

Whilst this season was always going to be harder and the impact of 9 or so players not having a proper summer break cannot be under estimated. However, his stubbornness to stick to the same formation, regardless of opposition, injuries etc has not helped.

The comment that we essentially have 3 attacking players and 7 defenders is not far off the mark.

The 3421 formation does seem to suit us away from home more than at home and we have struggled to score and win at home all season.

Away from home the players seem to get it and we are now quite hard to beat, albeit the football is not always great.

Personally i thought Frank and Brentford was quite innovative a few years ago when he often played 4 at the back at home and 5 away (he does it less often now though i notice).

I do think maybe that would suit us more and get the most out of Eze, however, OG won't change anytime soon.

We're that easy to play against we've lost 2 of our last 12, Glasner is doing a great job, we've got a mid table squad and we're mid table, I know you think eze is a future ballon d'or winner but he would struggle to get into the top 50 players in the league, let alone the world.

If we get relegated being 11 points clear at this point in the season than I will take cyanide. I am that confident it will not happen.

It is one thing to be critical but quite another to be whatever the heck this is.

If we had beaten Brentford, you wouldn't feel the same I imagine?

Where OG deserves a lot of credit is making us a difficult to beat, well organised unit who can pick off teams on our day and be deadly in the break. You can see that in our recent results.

What is a touch disappointing is that the football is still pretty hard to watch. OG hasn’t been able to make us a more fluid unit. Apart from the final 7 games last season it’s still a case of be compact and grab a goal on the break type football.

In fairness to OG that is probably due to not having the players. We have one creative player in Eze, a good striker, Sarr who is great or invisible depending on the day and that’s it really from an attacking standpoint.
What about Mateta?
