I'd say (bearing in mind his career is on the line) that he'll be hoping to finish in a decent position in the league and to win the Conference League and will be trying hard to achieve that. He wont be doing it for Palace, he'll be doing it for Oliver Glasner. But who cares what his motivations are if we put another run together?
I have mixed feelings regarding OG's recent behaviour.
I have no issue with him putting OG first, it's a short career. I think all footballers behave similarly.
When he signed for us it was only for 2 and a bit years. That was clearly his choice as i suspect Palace would have wanted a year longer. On the flip side less compensation would be paid if things didn't go well.
So at that point we sort of knew he would use Palace as a stepping stone. After the FA Cup win (which even he admitted we would have lost 9 times out of 10 - always the realist) the fact he refused to discuss his contract situation told me he was never going to re-sign. Surely that must have been an open secret within the club.
Generally OG has been quite open and engaging in press conferences. He has mildly criticised the club for their transfer dealing, or lack of it, however, he has also been supported with a few of his own signings (Lacroix and Kamada etc) and he seemed quite happy with Nketiah when he first signed.
On the whole the club has been reasonably lucky with injuries, and whilst clearly we have had a few, the core of the team has predominantly been ever present. OG has shown that when he has his first X1 to pick we are competitive, but when we have more than 2 or 3 out and he refuses to tweak the formation and puts 'square pegs in round holes'. Fulham at home last season (2-0 defeat, should have been 4 or 5) showed clearly the club's and his limitations.
Last summer the club got complacent or were too focused on the Europa appeal. The squad was always threadbare in certain positions and with European games added on it would always come to a head in December when the games came thick and fast.
During December when a few injuries started mounted up and Sarr was away at Afcon and the games came thick and fast we had Fulham last season all over again, but for 5 or 6 games in a row.
I think the Macc line up was a massive mistake, especially as we didn't have a game for a week afterwards and had already said the players would get a 3 day break. Why loan Esse that week and then play a 16 year old in that position? The month before he had handled it quite well at Shelbourne, by playing a strong side and taking 3 off at half time.
The Sunderland situation was clearly designed by him. Yes the squad was struggling but to not make a sub was pure stubbornness.
The humble comment reminded me of Mourinho - when he talked about what 'he' had won etc.
Now he has a few back form injury and more attacking options. Other than at CB he cannot complain about the lack of options. However, he mentioned the CB issues after Thursday's game.
He has to pick a formation and style that best suits the players he has. What worked brilliantly last season for periods when we had a full team available is clearly not working now.
He needs to motivate the team and help with their confidence. To state how nervous they were on Sunday is only fair to a point, he should be trying to alleviate those nerves. Pino is disappearing in front of our eyes.
I think he does want to succeed at Palace (and this will then also benefit him), i'm just not sure if he has the flexibility to facilitate it.
If he starts with 3 at the back on Thursday with all the injuries we have at CB and knowing exactly how Mostar will clearly line up and defend deep i'm not sure he'll last beyond the March international break.
