Glasner Out

I'm fairly sure that the players read things in the media.

So they will have been aware of the comments made by Glasner towards us, the fans.

There's a degree of deflection in some of what he's been saying, and I took his '' humble '' utterances as an insult. Indeed, a fan base with less humility would have made for a really toxic environment yesterday.

Under the circumstances then I think the HF banner was him getting off lightly.

Glasner has now succeeded in alienating the supporters. But it hasn't and won't affect the relationship between the fans and the players.

On occasions in interviews he looks to the side for guidance as to what terminology to use.

Glasner for me is now the caretaker manager .It's how I see him until the new man is installed ,a manager without portfolio until the end of the season .

I'm not sure how many support staff Glasner brought with him but ditching Glasner now would also mean we lose at least a couple maybe 3 assistant coaches ,the fitness coach and his assistants and anyone else that tagged along
The implications of that are unclear depending on who comes in but if Parish is looking for a caretaker until the end of the season the package of Glasner and his backroom staff looks a lot better than say Paddy on his own with Dean Kiely .

Parish isn't stupid and though likely unhappy with the situation sees that the best course of action is to hobble on till the end of May

I agree with many of the comments posted on Glasner’s behaviour and how we should have given him the boot after his post Sunderland outburst.

We didn’t and clearly we won’t now - so I just don’t see any benefit to our players by creating a horrible negative atmosphere. It’s not going to help them perform is it?

Let’s just get behind the boys and move on.

Interesting points. But you'd also wonder how much effort they're putting in now wouldn't you? Everyone knows they and the boss are leaving.

Yes, of course he has a disadvantage when he argues, like most people who are not speaking in their native language. But no, his sarcastic remarks were intentional and did not just happen. He has always been a bit conceited and teacher-like. Even the Austrian press is unexpectedly critical of his statements, which is rather rare. He has probably already annoyed quite a few people there by repeatedly referring to himself in the third person like Caesar or explaining to the public what he tells his children. Nobody is interested in this because they are not his children and most likely do not feel like they were. But I forgive him for all that as long as he delivers.

New manager bounce is a fallacy, Wolves one win in 15, Forrest lost and Spurs lost.
It can work but statistically if your team does experience a 'bounce' when the new guy comes in it usually its a few games of doing well followed by a few games of patchy results followed by just as bad or even worse than before. It kind of depends on the individual manager. You need someone tactically astute to raise the level as well as results and keep it there. A bounce only works in your favour longer term if you have say ten games left and you're in the relegation zone.
There are not many that are capable of doing that.

We've had our day in the sun but now we are going through a difficult, prolonged period of adjustment.
We have lost players who no longer wanted to be part of our club. We have a manager who is leaving at the end of his agreed contract. We've suffered absentees from our thin squad with injuries etc.
But surely it's a time to get behind the club.
I was not impressed with the banners shown just after the game started. What were they meant to achieve? What a downer to put on an already fragile Selhurst.
If those self-important few wanted to make a protest, couldn't more thougtful timing have been applied?
They're certainly not speaking for me.
I agree, As usual the entitled/arrogant HF act like they speak for all Palace fans. They dont. I admit to now feeling Glasner's time is up but...if Parish has decided to keep him in the seat then I respect that. Its not as if we are in any real danger of relegation. We weren't before the Wolves game. As for the Conference League, I'd love to be proven wrong but I haven't believed we'll win that for some time now.

Getting behind the team is what a true supporter does. If you want to get a little banner out do the decent thing and leave it till after the final whistle

I agree, Like him or loathe him anyone that thinks Paddy could do as well never mind a better job is deluded. Its absolutely the right attitude to just view him now as a caretaker because thats exactly what he is. The team is the most important thing. He knows how to coach this team at this level. No hero worship, no singing his name any more but let him get on with the job and look forward to the new guy coming in in the summer.

I'd say (bearing in mind his career is on the line) that he'll be hoping to finish in a decent position in the league and to win the Conference League and will be trying hard to achieve that. He wont be doing it for Palace, he'll be doing it for Oliver Glasner. But who cares what his motivations are if we put another run together?

So I read today that we are keeping Glasner as per his contract. This is a decision made by Parish and i would assume the board. We only need a few more points now for safety and on Thursday we still have a good chance to progress in Europe. We are also only 3 points off eighth place.
Im a glass half full fan, like many new posts here. We are only 3 points off eighth place. I will be getting right behind the team on Thursday and beyond.
Got to be honest though and say I loved the humble til I die chant and the other ones like it. I felt they were well humoured while getting a point over to Glasner. In return he would be well advised to pipe down on his views. They are all irrelevant now as he is going at the end of the season. He needs to get the players in the right mood now to keep winning again, and maybe even bring us some more silverware. We all need to pull together now to achieve as much as we can with the chances we have got coming.

You may be right and more likely not, but he's said it wasn't meant like that and he's staying til the end now and will give his all so, you know what?.. I'm just gonna get behind Ollie, Parish and every player now and let's see if we can win this bloody European thing, finish above the Weed and get as high as we can. After all he brought us the best times ever. The roller coaster continues. Oliver Glasner's red blue army😬 COYP

I cannot for the life of me think of a Premiership manager past or present that has ever acted in the way that Glasner has. We know he’s going but why keep on about it every given opportunity?

If your wife kept going on about leaving you would help her out the door with a toe up her arse, well you would wouldn’t you? I have had enough of this petulance now and the way he has acted will not bode well for him further down the line, it’s a massive get rid now, shut the door on your way out!
Yes this is the part I find strange. As we all know he's leaving at the end of the season so lets imagine for a moment he heads back to Germany or Austria to manage? He has a couple of seasons of relative success, but then someone like Villa, Spurs or say Newcastle come knocking I would imagine they're would be some sort of side of the mouth remarks by members of their respective recruitment teams to Parish about Glasner's character.

I have mixed feelings regarding OG's recent behaviour.

I have no issue with him putting OG first, it's a short career. I think all footballers behave similarly.
When he signed for us it was only for 2 and a bit years. That was clearly his choice as i suspect Palace would have wanted a year longer. On the flip side less compensation would be paid if things didn't go well.
So at that point we sort of knew he would use Palace as a stepping stone. After the FA Cup win (which even he admitted we would have lost 9 times out of 10 - always the realist) the fact he refused to discuss his contract situation told me he was never going to re-sign. Surely that must have been an open secret within the club.

Generally OG has been quite open and engaging in press conferences. He has mildly criticised the club for their transfer dealing, or lack of it, however, he has also been supported with a few of his own signings (Lacroix and Kamada etc) and he seemed quite happy with Nketiah when he first signed.

On the whole the club has been reasonably lucky with injuries, and whilst clearly we have had a few, the core of the team has predominantly been ever present. OG has shown that when he has his first X1 to pick we are competitive, but when we have more than 2 or 3 out and he refuses to tweak the formation and puts 'square pegs in round holes'. Fulham at home last season (2-0 defeat, should have been 4 or 5) showed clearly the club's and his limitations.

Last summer the club got complacent or were too focused on the Europa appeal. The squad was always threadbare in certain positions and with European games added on it would always come to a head in December when the games came thick and fast.

During December when a few injuries started mounted up and Sarr was away at Afcon and the games came thick and fast we had Fulham last season all over again, but for 5 or 6 games in a row.

I think the Macc line up was a massive mistake, especially as we didn't have a game for a week afterwards and had already said the players would get a 3 day break. Why loan Esse that week and then play a 16 year old in that position? The month before he had handled it quite well at Shelbourne, by playing a strong side and taking 3 off at half time.

The Sunderland situation was clearly designed by him. Yes the squad was struggling but to not make a sub was pure stubbornness.

The humble comment reminded me of Mourinho - when he talked about what 'he' had won etc.

Now he has a few back form injury and more attacking options. Other than at CB he cannot complain about the lack of options. However, he mentioned the CB issues after Thursday's game.

He has to pick a formation and style that best suits the players he has. What worked brilliantly last season for periods when we had a full team available is clearly not working now.

He needs to motivate the team and help with their confidence. To state how nervous they were on Sunday is only fair to a point, he should be trying to alleviate those nerves. Pino is disappearing in front of our eyes.

I think he does want to succeed at Palace (and this will then also benefit him), i'm just not sure if he has the flexibility to facilitate it.

If he starts with 3 at the back on Thursday with all the injuries we have at CB and knowing exactly how Mostar will clearly line up and defend deep i'm not sure he'll last beyond the March international break.

All managers have blind spots.
Anybody remember Pep playing Bernardo Silva at full back, or Big Sam playing Schlupp at centre back?
The difference is that when it didn't work they didn't repeat the mistake.
With Glasner it feels 'Carry on Regardless' as he persists in playing players out of position when the evidence is irrefutable that it doesn't work.

So as a few have now posted it seems that OG will see out his contract and stay till the end of the season.
I am very much in the OG out camp, but will accept the decision and continue to support the team on match day.
As fans we are a very forgiving bunch, and I can not think of too many clubs fans being so accepting of various outbursts like OG has deleivered.

What does concern me however is that he really does seem to have lost the dressing room. The players are not playing with the same commitment and enthusiasm that we have seen over the past couple of seasons. OG is still playing the same system and tactics which haven’t worked now for some months, and only changed this during the game on Sunday probably due to the yellow cards to Canvot and Riad. Also Riad didn’t have the best game!

The football has very much turned into Royball and despite the fans best efforts to accept OG staying, it will remain relatively toxic because of the turgid football he is serving up.
