Glasner Out

already, i am feeling the problem is not Glasner. Our behaviours in the transfer market are not good. Selling the best players and not really having a good contingency plan.
Certainly we are a selling club. Therefore it should be ok to sell a World Class player and replace with a fella who is, say 75% as talented. But we are not doing that.
Also our injury crisis is no surprise when you are playing in 4 competitions.

The Boardroom is the problem, not Glasner. Losing Guehi without any proper replacement.
But we do/did have a contingency plan.. We had Riad, and we bought in Canvot both of who are young deputies who we'd hoped would be ready by the time Guehi left - he's made no secret that was his intention.

Riad has been 'unlucky' with Injuries, and Canvot looks promising, but hasn't played all that much in Guehi's position yet, with Glasner seemingly perfering Lerma in that role.

for Eze, we bought Esse, then Pino, and now Johnson...

Not sure what else was expected of the Board. We're not buying like for like, we buy potential. It's for the Manager and his team to get them up to speed and integrate them correctly.

That's true but it's a shame we don't often get the benefit when that potential starts being realised.

Pino and Johnson are both right-wingers. I think possibly Esse was meant to be the long-term replacement for Eze, but it was clear in the summer he wasn't yet ready to come close to filling his boots. Glasner adapted by playing Pino on the left, as Sarr has thrived on the right, while he has also used Kamada there, but the fact is, we didn't sign a player who was ready to play regularly as a left inside forward. We signed two right-wingers. Whatever system we play, we don't have a player whose preferred position is a left-sided attacking player. We now have three who prefer to play on the right. It just makes no sense.

Spot on. We can never buy like for like which is why losing these players hurts so much! But we have to believe in our recruitment team. To think we signed Munoz & Wharton in a Jan transfer window shows what can be achieved!

Succession planning has been in place for some while, well before the announcement of his departure.
Good to know. So can you tell us what that plan is? Sadly, the usual insiders with close links to the club like Dom Fifield don't seem to know. Has a manager been identified? Or are there several candidates? What sort of profile are the club looking for in a manager?

Jesus Christ the Parish love-in on here is absurd.

Yes, the best Manager we have ever had is Voldemort and deserves zero credit for the only 2 trophies we’ve ever won.

Give that same team to Roy Hodgson and see how close to the FA Cup he gets - and I respect Roy massively for saving us.

Best football we’ve ever played, not just winning a cup but doing it in style and bringing belief of good times and progression given to the fans, only for your boy Parish and Co to tighten the purse strings and show ZERO ambition.
That Glasner is an effective coach who can organise and motivate a team to play in a particular way is beyond question. What he has now proven is he is not a wise manager able to adapt to circumstances, work within budgetary constraints and with his bosses as well as his players.

He has acted more like a union rep than a manager. His time is up.

Personally, I've always backed Glasner because you can't argue with the success he brought us, but the fans were clearly shell-shocked with the announcements on Friday so to then have an outburst when he's already made it clear he's leaving seemed at best ill-advised and at worst self-preservation tactics. Talking about himself in the third person was also very odd. It's a real shame as all he really had to do was quietly see out his contract, like Iraola and Silva may well be doing at their respective clubs.
His comments were preplanned from Friday after the Guehi sale.

He wanted to clearly state that this poor run of form the club is on was not reflective of his abilities as a manager and was not his fault.

He decided to lift the lid on his exit and ensure any negativity resulting from our current plight was not associated to him but board recruitment.

Had the results been slightly better then this would never have got to where it did.

I think this calculated strategy may bite him in the future but there is always a demand for quality managers and I still see him as one of those.

is the team that signed Wharton and Munoz still doing our hiring? I have no idea. Those sort of shrewd signings also seem so different from the decision making behind Nketia, Johnson. The former being more akin to Benteke or Adebayor. That might sound a bit harsh on Nketia but it does smack of 'well he's from Arsenal so he must be good' rather than looking into the reason why he didn't cut it at Arsenal.

All these matters will be in the public domain at the appropriate time.

So you know as much as us then. 🙂

I very much doubt that much detail of any of the happenings at Palace will become public knowledge. Confidentiality agreements abound. We can fill in the gaps, or at least have a very good try. 🙂

Regarding the timing of Guehi, there is an argument either way.

Let him play the Sunderland game and then let him go
vs
Dont risk him picking up an injury and us lose £20m on the spot

The more worrying thing is how little dialogue there seams to be between OG and Parish/Moody. I dont have an issue with the 10:30 phone call, but I do think there should have been dialogue before "FYI Oli, City have been in touch and it looks like this is going to happen, still TBC, but plan for Sunderland without Marc"

I have nothing further to add to my previous statement.

In terms of "Public knowledge" my focus was purely on a new manager and not the wider aspects of any developments.

Why should SP hold on to Marc for the rest of the season, basically four months just to please a manager who’s announced he’s leaving anyway. He has to do what’s best for the club which has been and will be around a lot longer than Ollie’s two years.

Imo the reason Ollie had his rant is to make it perfectly clear to any possible future employers that our recent demise is not his fault, in other words self preservation

No consolation but we're not the only ones going through it. Tottenham have 13 players out either injured or suspended but Frank is still copping it from their fans.

This ignores Marc's wishes. He was asked if he wanted to play or if his head was in the right place to play. It had looked like it wasn't for a couple of weeks. And Glasner had gone on about it long enough: he took himself out of the conversation. His position was clear. He wasn't going to be told. He doesn't like being told. He won't be told anything now I'd say.

Losing Olise will never heal for me. At the most recent game for Bayern he was rested but brought on at half-time with the teams tied at 1-1. 45 minutes later Bayern were 5-1 up with Michael providing 3 assists and a beautiful strike for a goal. He might be the most talented player to have ever appeared for Palace
Munoz and Wharton were acquired in January and were part of that team that looked world-beating at the end of that season. The final seven games Olise and Eze started together were all won with 24(?) goals scored
But that was with Freedman at the helm and things haven't gone so well since he left. Early days, but the first selection under Hobbs, Johnson, is a player who, like Nketiah, doesn't bring much to the game if he isn't scoring and plays in a position where Sarr offers more
