Glasner Out

Taxi for Mr Hodgson and Mr Lewington, Taxi for Mr Hodgson and Mr Lewington, anyone Taxi for Mr Hodgson and Mr Lewington, come guys one of you please Taxi for Mr Hodgson and Mr Lewington.

Glasner said he agreed with Parish back in October not to mention the fact that he would not be signing a new contract.
What is unclear today is whether Parish was on board about today’s announcement or whether he was he blindsided.
I recall at the backend of last year Parish was asked about Glasner’s future and said discussions were ongoing and he had a good dinner out with Glasner when the contract was discussed.
At the time many in here reading between the lines thought Parish sounded downbeat about Glasner staying.
Not really surprising if Parish already knew Glasner was going.

None of this really matters now, but it might do if results fail to improve and the inevitable finger pointing and blame apportioning starts.
There is a part of me that feels that Glasner will not see out the season.

Apparently not (blindsided)

From The Evening Standard:

Standard Sport understands a consensus was reached between Glasner and Palace chairman Steve Parish that this was the best time to reveal his summer departure.

It was feared it would look as though Glasner was annoyed by the club sanctioning Guehi’s exit if the news of the head coach’s exit came later.

Good old "Optics".

I’m sorry but the longer I sit here and think about what’s happened today the more i just want him to f*** off.

We won the cup so Thank you but it took him awhile to get going when he first got here. He had a s*** start to last season and its fell to bits so far this season.

I have a sneaky feeling that the new man is lined up for the summer and OG is lined up for Man U. That is the only thing that makes sense to me. See out the year, Utd don’t have to pay a fee for him, we don’t have to pay a fee for the new manager… just us have to suffer because this is going to fall apart quicker than you can say Venables 1980

Even in the strange world of football management he might be making things tricky for himself with his moving between jobs. How attractive a prospect will he be for bigger clubs who generally spend a lot more on players to buy them to fit a particular style when the manager who wanted them won't stay much longer than a couple of years? Of course that's the case with most managers but they don't all have such specific player requirements.
Big clubs are likely to be more prepared to sack a manager than indulge one who'll probably leave of his own accord.
I have a feeling that OG has always seen his trajectory as heading towards a big club and I'm not sure the butterfly tactic would continue once he's found one.

Venners was another who saw his end destination at a top club. We were just a station on the line.

I am fearful of our prospects this season and looking down the table with real concern.

Glasner is a born liar, he stood infront of the press and said that he was going to discuss with Parish about a new contract at the end of January, what a tosser.

Yes and a well timed realeased statement . If it was a home game tomorrow i dont think he would have got a very warm welcome . Austrains do have history of being lying bastards . He should f*** off now smug prick .

I reckon I’m on the side of those who think we should kick him out the club straight away as I can’t see him doing anything positive for the club.

If you were an integral part of a business and you told that business you were leaving, your bags would be packed and you’d be out the door that afternoon and certainly before you get time to worm your way around those players you want to entice to come with you.

the article on our home page sums it up perfectly - Parish lost Glasner's trust last summer. But I can't see how he can continue to manage the team now he is going? I think he'll be at Man U well before the end of the season - and if you go back to the match before Ollie's first, away at Everton, it was Paddy McCarthy who set us up with three at the back in the Glasner system - he'll do till the summer, has the trust of the players and internal appointments can bring vital continuity, look at Keith Andrew, Gary O'Neill at Bournemouth or way back Tony Barton at Villa.

I'm waiting for this thread to turn round into "it's all Parish's fault, if only he'd backed Ollie" blah blah time and space loop continuum Star Trek TNG storyline saga...
If you watch the Sky half hour long special on Glasner where they take comments from the important people in Glasner’s life, past and present you’ll note that they refer to him being super ambitious and never happy to sit in one place for long.

It’s pretty obvious this is exactly how he has treated us and with that in mind I really don’t see the point in letting him hang around any longer than necessary.

If Parish knew in October there's no excuse for not having succession plans well in hand.
My choice?
Thomas Frank.
Experienced in PL and can work with small budgets.
The Spurs experience will be chastening for him.

So I asked grok why did Glasner leave frankfurt?

Oliver Glasner left Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of the 2022–23 season, one year before his contract was due to expire (originally until 2024). The departure was a mutual decision following discussions between Glasner and the club's management, primarily driven by the team's poor performance in the second half of the Bundesliga season.

After a strong first half where Frankfurt reached the Champions League round of 16, the team slumped significantly they were on a long winless run in the league,

Additional reports highlighted underlying tensions, including:

Differences of opinion on squad planning and transfers Glasner was openly critical of the squad's imbalance and lack of quality/depth, preferring more investment rather than relying on youth development (as favored by sporting director Markus Krösche).

Public outbursts from Glasner in press conferences, which were seen as disruptive.

His delayed response to a contract extension offer, which reportedly frustrated club officials.

Feels very similar?

I tend to agree. It puts Parish in a spot, because if he was told in October that OG was leaving after honouring his contract but could it all be kept under wraps, and the players are none the wiser, therefore when the news does finally break it would seem natural for at least some of them to feel that they have been misled, Glasner having been asked numerous times on camera if any of the rumours about him were true. If trust has been lost, and after that Macclesfield performance I suspect it has, then Glasner should go soon as.

I have a feeling that OG has always seen his trajectory as heading towards a big club and I'm not sure the butterfly tactic would continue once he's found one.
I suspect he will run into a brick wall at any of the big clubs. None of them are content with counter attacking football and Glasner shows no signs of knowing anything else. He can motivate and improve fitness but play different formations isn’t his way.

He could earn a lot, and spend a lot more, at United but for how long?

In the meantime we will quietly move on. Lose some, acquire some, bring some through and get the new stand ready for the next phase in our history. Steadying the ship for the next 18 months, mid table for this and next season being realistic aims now.
