Fulham v Crystal Palace match thread

What a great all round team performance, OG is certainly improving his CV, I just hope we can hang on to him and hopefully he can concentrate on our poor home form, which we have had to endue for far too many seasons now. Hopefully this can start on Tuesday and we can record a win versus AV and have us ready to tackle Millwall on Saturday neither of which will be easy games to win!
 
Not so long ago when Hughes was getting criticised by some for being too slow and clumsy in the tackle and seen as a third rate sub on our bench. Now he’s winning MOTM awards and must be the first name on the team sheet. It took him a while to settle and find his game. I look forward to Daichi following suit and silencing the whingers on here who love to have a go every time he puts in an appearance.

I think Hughes is benefitting from Glasner's tactical set up. Our press pushes the opposition to play through the centre. Instead of Hughesy chasing the game, the game comes to him.

He is one of our leaders on the pitch, always gives 100% and he's an uncomplicated player - you always know what your getting from Hughes (second half booking and a wry smile to the ref?) - Love him.
 
The more is watch the Muniz goal, the better it gets. JP’s run from our 18 yard box was incredible, the pace and footwork going past 2 players was outstanding for a big man and his pass to Daniel was perfect. As for Daniel’s dummy, Bassey had to buy a ticket to get back in the ground, and the smash finish just rounded off a great move.
Definitely a contender for goal of the month, and would win it easily if scored by one of the so called big teams!

I think your spot on to defend Daichi, the EPL is the toughest league in world due to its intensity, physicality, player skill levels and the pace at which the game is played. There is also the added factor that referees here allow more physical contact the other league which also increases the pace at which the game is played. Daichi, needs more time and patiences from us all, it is difficult to make an impact when you come on late in a game from the bench to get up to game speed without that experience behind you. Let us all trust in OG, he knows what he is doing even though he is still leaning about the EPL himself!
 
Fulham are gonna complain to the PGMOL about ref Rob Jones performance.

Straight after the final whistle it was the narrative that the slimey snake, Silva, was running with!

The contributions of Eze and Sarr to that goal ought to be mentioned too, even though they didn’t touch the ball. They got in the box too having done the hard yards, occupying defenders and allowing Muniz the opportunity to dummy his man and smash home. A pass to either being an option too.

I never had issues with his speed, his tackling, his strength or tenacity. It was his card collection and that he couldn't pass. Players appeared to have been ordered to come up when he got the ball so he could pass short to them and let the better ball player make the pass.

No longer. That is his game now. He defends, as before, and controls the midfield. But he also attacks and makes killer passes into the box. He is the all rounder and as good as Gallagher at his Palace pomp. OG and his coaching staff did something which transformed him. A clear POTY.

The only downside is his age. Why could this talent not have been harnessed a few years earlier?

I suppose it was the tackle featured on MotD. Hughes, probably? They showed it again, but no close-ups. The ball changed direction so Hughes defo got a touch. However, impossible to comment on whether it was dangerous without a closer look.

Would it have changed anything? Hughes might have been sent off. We might have then lost the midfield. The free kick could have gone in. Or Hughes would have been booked earlier, swapped for Wharton and we would have thumped them anyway.

Given the balance of play, I know which option is the more likely.

Silva is a complete whinge bag though. Not quite as bad as Arteta but very close. As someone else said on here, he also tries to influence the refs before the game with pre-match comments about Palace being a “very physical team” nudge nudge… A dirty tactic more commonly used by international rugby coaches. Gatland was a master at trying to get inside refs heads to influence them.

Classic manager trying to deflect from his and his teams deficiencies. Outplayed from start to finish, 0-2 flattered them and any home team who doesn’t register one shot on target at premier league level football is a disgrace………but it’s the refs fault is it you little weasel?

In the half hour highlights of the game on Sky Tony Gale refers to the first tackle on Smith-Rowe being a foul (although they didn’t show it). Hughes definitely got the ball in the challenge on Bassey, could see that from the away end.

Fulham didn’t help themselves with their constant diving and throwing themselves to the floor!!

Lazio not keen to offload and OG keen to hire. There must be something in there..?

Meanwhile, a positive. If we are 2-0 up against a side with little evidence of potential improvement, perfect to bring on to rest a player who may need the last 15 minutes with his feet up (uninjured). Sarr this time.

Also, I don't recall him being so bad Fulham saw a chink that they could successfully exploit.

I completely agree about Kamada's substitution in the Fulham game. I also didn't see what decisive bad influence he had on the game. However, I'm not sure if OG is still so enthusiastic about him, because he has been anything else but a playmaker everybody was hoping for. The fact that you then try to justify an unfortunate decision that you initiated - as OG possibly does - is bad, but human. It often takes time to admit your own mistakes. Kamada's transfer to the PL may not have been good in retrospect, but these things happen and are unfortunately part of the game. Let's hope for a late surprise. If someone had told me a year ago that JPM is able to take on defenders like he did for the second goal on Saturday, I would have laughed at him.

A sublime move and a rocket of a shot but the defending of Bassey was abject.
