Imagine being 19, in one of the most important games in your club's history, under pressure to defend a lead, and then running two-thirds of the pitch to play a key role in opening the scoring. Not many centre-backs would do that. What a dramatic climb from the lad who made that mistake against Larnaca back in October. And that penalty was soft as a trifle.

A difficult second half to manage, but the players kept their heads and made it over the line.

I have only seen the highlights but the penalty was harsh.

Really liking Canvot I think he's going to be a star.

The performance was immaterial, it was all about getting to the semi final, which was achieved with ease. Against an in form Italian side away from home, you could only of dreamed of that a few years ago.
The emergence of a young 19 year old talent in Canvot was more than positive.

Hughes off the bench for Pino and Kamada moving into one of the 10's settled the game down. Brilliant from Hughes and Kamada just seemed much more mobile further forward which worked both well with the press and when counter attacking.

Fair point Teddy, we were made to work a bit for it in the end and that will probably be more beneficial in the semi’s. Although playing at home second in the semi, I doubt we’ll have a similar scenario, more like we’ll be the ones chasing the game

I have already expressed my opinion of his performance but there were some who took an antithetical view. In general he has demonstrated flashes of quality interspersed with mediocrity and has been found wanting in the 'Physicality' department.
Perhaps he would be more effective introduced from the bench in the last 15/20 minutes.

To regards Pino.

There is definitely quality in him, but I just don't think he is cut out for us. He seems the type of player that would fit in more at teams like Man City, possibly Arsenal.

Too good and expensive to be used as just an impact sub, but obviously not consistent enough for a starting place.

I can only see a return to Spain if given the option.
If we recoup most or all of the outlay back, it would give us finances for elsewhere.

I think question must be asked whether he really wanted to come here or whether it was all money related ?

For me it’s a sign of how far we’ve come that we fairly comfortably beat a well known side from a good European league over two legs and it is seen as normal. In fact if anything we are all a bit disappointed by the performance last night. Wind the clock back 12 or 15 years and this would have been unthinkable and beating the likes of Fiorentina a major upset.

Who knows if there is even a distinction between wanting to be here for us and wanting to be here for the money. The two can go hand in hand. What I’d say is the one thing Pino has shown is great effort and attitude. He doesn’t hide and doesn’t shirk responsibility. That at least suggests he is fully committed to being here

I've noticed he's much more up for a scrap recently and that is just where his game has needed to improve.

I happen to have faith that once he is fully acclimatised to the physical rigours of Premier football, he'll be a very good player for us.

Probably a minority view, I know.

So now I’ve returned to earth after my high I an say that even after the 1-2 I wasn’t really nervous and that from this pessimist. I hate losing though, even when it doesn’t matter. It spoils a nice little run we were developing. Looking more closely on highlights at how both Lacroix and Wharton left the pitch I would be amazed if they were available on Monday versus the in-form Hammers. In that regard I agree with Mr Willo on two matters, 1) difficult to anything other than a loss for us without them and maybe Mitchell ( I thought that he appeared to be limping??) and 2) Shaktah Brazil will be another step up. We have proved though, that we can match the better opponents. This is why I was quite surprised that we lost yesterday. Anyway, onwards and upwards.

15 years ago I would have been ecstatic watching us lose to them in a pre season friendly.

Has he ever used his left peg - serious question, as i don't think i can remember a time.

Some of his bad misses are due to him using his right even when the ball is on the left side - Macc and the Wolves lob spring to mind.

He is definitely improving though and i think he's an intelligent player.

Have to admit my arse did go a bit when they got their second but we did well to pull ourselves together and keep them at arms length from then. It's a shame about the injuries and the pen as before then we absolutely had them on toast qnd were playing wonderful football

I looked it up and 15 years ago almost to the day we lost 1-2 at home to Scunthorpe and went on to finish 20th in a 22 team championship. Only not relegated as that was the year they increased the 3 divisions to 24 teams.
