Farage faces standards probe into £5m gift

Because Labour/Green politicians are never smeared in this country, right..?
Most of the attacks on the Greens are not based on smearing Polanski or his politicians, simply pointing out that their policies are ludicrous and would speed the UK to utter devastation. Most of the attacks on Starmer are based on competence and judgement, not on smearing him, and as much of that comes from the left as from the right.

Starmer has been smeared badly since day one, talk on here of a super injunction to stop something coming out of the woodwork guesses on here include several goes at his wife, keep dreaming making stuff up and enjoy your GB News the most fined t v station in history as they tell more fairy stories than Jackanory " Living in Fantasy Land" would be far more realistic.

This is simply you projecting your own biases. The idea that Polanski, Starmer, or even Corbyn are not smeared in the media is just objectively untrue.

Farage gets the easiest ride of any politician in the country.

Seriously?

Almost week there is a new Farage scandal. As for smearing the others it's true that the press do go for them like rabid dogs but it's only smearing if it is untrue.

Not true.

Somewhat ironically that's more likely your own biases.

In terms of smears and regularity of press attacks that is probably Badenoch.

Absolutely - Farage has survived multiple scandals that would end the career of any 'normal' politician.

Imagine Polanski had accepted a £5m 'gift' from a foreign-based billionaire.
Imagine Rayner's partner bought an £800k house in cash avoiding the appropriate stamp duty.
Imagine Starmer had dozens of accusations of antisemitic abuse and hissing at Jewish kids at school.

In all cases there would be an absolute media frenzy, but barely a ripple for old Nige.

Those just cover the last 6 months.

Except at Coutts and Co.Who are very discerning on who comes through the door.

Compare Rayner's housing 'scandal' with Farage's.

We can only imagine the fallout if a Corbyn or Starmer had accepted a £5m gift, but let's be serious... it would be a bloodbath.

Polanski is labelled antisemitic for criticism of Israel, despite you know being Jewish... Farage has multiple allegations of actual antisemitic abuse and no one blinks.

Wasn't an MP at the time, needs security as none is provided.....Seriously this is absolutely smearing by activists not interested in objectivity.

Imagine Rayner's partner bought an £800k house in cash avoiding the appropriate stamp duty.

Rayner is still an MP after a scandal that she did herself.
Even then, she's in line to challenge for PM......Where is the left wing criticism?
Also, enlarging rules to include partners would have to prove that Farage did this.....A stretch.

Imagine Starmer had dozens of accusations of antisemitic abuse and hissing at Jewish kids at school.

Hearsay is prattle.....especially when it comes from those with politics against someone.

Starmer was a communist at university.....an actual signed up member of a communist organisation.

Errrr....

From the left wing press, they never miss an opportunity so basically you're just biased.

When he was a schoolboy. And you don't think that's not smearing.

If you think the likely next Prime Minister getting a £5m 'gift' from an overseas billionaire is a smear, there is little value in discussing it further. Too far down the rabbit hole.

Not even Farage still punts the security line FFS - even they worked out that no one was buying that.

Rayner got crucified for weeks. Farage has swerved a much bigger tax bill related to housing, as well as the initial dishonest claim that he had bought the house - barely in the news for 48hours. It's nothing at all to do with enlarging rules, that's a disingenuous framing.

Yeah everyone at Farage's school just had 'politics against him'. That's believable. It's amazing no other politician has multiple people accusing them of racial abuse at school, or teachers writing letters almost 50 years ago about their fascist views.

Everyone is biased, I don't know why you keep making this silly point - your dismissals above are as generous (see biased) as you could ever read. You think a major politician accepting a £5m 'gift' is just a smear for goodness sake - that's your bias leading you to completely absurd conclusions.

So anything anyone does as a teenager should be ignored and forgotten..?
In politics yes, unless they were convicted.

This was the seventies, Love Thy neighbour, Benny Hill, Bernard Manning, Black and White Minstrel show.

Why are you not going after the BBC and ITV?

Young men do and say stupid things. I would be embarrassed by my behaviour back then. Are we supposed to hold this against people for the rest of their lives?

It's funny how the left are all for rehabilitation and forgiveness of criminals but say something racist and you can never be forgiven.

Boy George convicted of imprisoning a man but he's gay so we should forgive and allow him back on TV.

I don't doubt Farage said some pretty appalling things back then again how many other MPs of his age and era can say they never did, racist or otherwise.

Sure, I did lots of stupid things at school, but neither I nor anyone I knew went round hissing at Jewish kids or racially abusing people. I don't think it's accurate pretending that is just par for the course behaviour for teenagers. 'Stupid things' is an enormously broad umbrella to try and lump together.

And again, if the same allegations surfaced from Polanski or Corbyn's school days... we'd have a very different fallout re the antisemitism.

I wouldn't, not if they related to school.

Early 2024 (Jan–March): Reform UK often hovered around 8–12%. For example, a YouGov poll in mid-January put them at 10%.

So when he received this money anyone calling him a 'likely next Prime Minister' isn't anything like objective.

Not even Farage still punts the security line FFS - even they worked out that no one was buying that.

Really? So when did this happen? What is he saying the money was for then?

Again, he wasn't an MP so he's done nothing wrong that I can see.

Rayner got crucified for weeks. Farage has swerved a much bigger tax bill related to housing, as well as the initial dishonest claim that he had bought the house - barely in the news for 48hours. It's nothing at all to do with enlarging rules, that's a disingenuous framing.

Again, this is action that Rayner herself took.....and she remained an MP who will challenge for PM.
What you are referring to was actions taken by Farage's partner.

From what I see, the dishonest framing is all yours.

Everyone? By what metric can anyone objective make such an absurd claim.

The crap you come out with.

Again, Starmer joined an actual communist organisation and is now PM of a capitalist country.

Everyone is biased......Bias is on a spectrum lad.

Some people won't let bias over-ride fairness and objectivity.

Consider the famed fairness of the cricket umpire who does his job properly. They will have a bias like everyone, but they will also have a commitment to principles that over-ride them.

Others like yourself, well.....you come from the bbs don't you.

So are you supportable of the anti semitism charges held against Corbyn while he was challenging for power? There are several real actions on record that Corbyn took that can be validly criticised on that area.....but I personally think it went too far.

I don't know enough about anti semitism and Polanski, other than apparently his Jewish family have disowned him.....how hyperbolic that is I don't know but it's what I heard.

I certainly know about the charges in the media against Corbyn, which I am on here as calling over the top at the time.....though it's obvious that he's heavily anti Zionist.

My problems with Corbyn were mostly elsewhere, though I feel that his welcoming attitude to actual anti semitic communities in Britain would mean that many good Jewish people would leave......A considerable decline in the exchange.

I'm also against as anti free speech the officially accepted definitions for anti semitism, which I regard as having gone too far as well......another example of well funded minority activist lobby groups with too much influence.

You though, appear to heavily support hearsay accusations when it comes to Farage....even going as far as implying that Farage is regularly abusing people (highly unlikely) without official censor.

Farage hasn't offered a new explanation for why a foreign based billionaire felt impassioned to gift him more money than most people will earn in their lifetime - I'm sure you're not naive enough to think people pay out money like that for nothing.

Farage claimed he bought the house, and it turned out he hadn't, so it's very much his actions. How do you think Farage's wife had £800k cash to purchase a house..?

Challenging the conversational use of the word 'everyone' ffs - that's really weak, but you're clearly scratching around here.

If you're suggesting you're someone who doesn't let bias override objectivity... I'd suggest some serious self reflection champ. You're here arguing that politicians pocketing £5m gifts is nothing to worry about - a truly absurd position.

I've never been on the BBS.

I think plenty of the criticism of Corbyn was reasonable at it's base, but the campaign against him clearly went well beyond that - if Farage was held to even 50% of that type of scrutiny...

If there were multiple accusations of Corybn hissing at Jewish people and chanting antisemitic songs, I would consider criticism of that behaviour perfectly reasonable... but when it's Farage we have to pretend it's not.
