FA Cup 3rd Round Macclesfield

Well it can't get any better than winning the fa cup for us and it certainly can't get any worse than after today........or can it?
now then succsessive relegation from div 1 to div 3 ,been there. done that in the 70s. Being in administration docked points, minutes from be wound up as a football club. been there too haven't we. Winning the FA Cup the greatest day of our Palace supporting lives. I know it hurts but I would not change anything. Palace are ours

Right I’m off to watch the last 10 minutes again

Ok.
I have time to sleep on the result…..and I’m still fecking embarrassed and raging.
I’m an OG man, but sorry Ollie, you've got to own that result. Your team playing your tactics through your formation.
Off to the gym now to work through my issues !!!

I bet their will be some interesting conversations at the club this coming week, especially as we are in the middle of the transfer window - wonder how much a single game influences strategy.

Manager discussions - players staying / going / transfers etc.

I am in Buxton from Monday this week (an hour from Macclesfield) the only reason my phone hasn't blown up yet is because others in the office are supporters of teams that are still to play their cup games & they want to see that they don't have egg on their faces too.

(Leeds & Liverpool)

I just want all this media attention to end! Palace always seem to be on TV or in the news for one reason or another….Was this the similar downfall experienced by Leicester City after they won the league?

There is too much uncertainty at the club. Glasner needs to make public if he is staying or going - then everyone can move forward.

Attracting new players with so much uncertainty is difficult. Compared to all the other premier clubs, our squad is the smallest - why?

Okay…rant over with!

Because we're like Cinderella at the ball? No wait, wrong analogy...

Macclesfield fielded men who know how to work and graft for a living. How to knuckle down and give it everything. They weren't playing for themselves or manager, in isolation. Their club is also in financial trouble and the huge loss recently of one of their friends and colleagues. Those are very real and massive pressures, and they played their best game.
Instead of the spotlight being on Palace's "troubles", I think there should be more acknowledgement (in the media , in general) of the massive effort Macclesfield put in, with their plumbers and electricians who play football as a hobby.
I hope they get a massive club in a spangly stadium with all the gate receipts and TV money. Might be good to keep it to a local team, and there are plenty of big clubs to choose from
And I also think Macclesfield should be hit with a massive fine for allowing a pitch invasion 😁😱

Bad as it was were are we unfair to some of the players?

Richards is getting a lot of stick, true I 've always seen him as a right sided defender only but for whatever reason he was in the middle. He was getting bugger all help on the right side from Canvot and Devenny and the midfield was non-existent. In my opinion he was just being overwhelmed.

Sosa seems to be becoming the whipping boy but he was far from the guilty player here and when moved to the right did better than Canvot and Devenny together. Prepared to take one for the team. Personally I would try him there rather than Clyne who is simply too old the run the entire wing.

Wharton, WTF, by far the worse on the pitch, lethargic giving the ball away, to the left to the right, the occasional through ball would have been nice. Not sure how you deal with that but what would Neil Warnock have said at halftime. £60mil? on that performance £2.50 and a bag of crisps.

Guehi, as usual put in a good shift but for the last month or so look at his face, not a happy man certainly not enjoying it. I reckon he's been told, end of the season regardless.

Uche, still don't know but he got bugger all service in that game.

If they had half the intent of Paul Dawson the outcome would have been different

Management, still poor at set pieces. There seemed to a be lack of intent from some players yesterday but overall the far post seems to be a danger area for us. I see this as coaching, its for the management to improve this but nothing is changing. Team selection? our right side made their left side look really good.

Nope, Richard’s was terrible as was everyone else. Have a look at there second goal and Richard’s attempts to head and clear the ball. Glasner should have seen as most of us did that Richard’s shouldn’t have been in the middle of the back 3. Richard’s was like that throughout the match. Instead Glasner made other substitutions which made us even more unstable. Great credit to Macclesfield but no other Prem team would have lost that game yesterday. It was humiliating and embarrassing. A terrible performance for which every player and management was at fault :-(

No. I don't buy any of the excuses about players not being played in the right positions. They are highly paid premier league footballers. Are you telling me a player who is normally a defender can't play in midfield? Chris Coleman used to play wherever he was told to play for us and James Milner used to do it throughout his career at every club he played at. I doubt a Macclesfield player would complain about it. It isn't as if we had JPM at right back. Chris Richards is an international!
I do blame the players 100%. Its the worst defeat in living memory and the players should be ashamed of themselves.
I don't know how they are going to get into the right mindset for the away game at Sunderland. I think they are unbeaten at home and will be seeing us a a wounded animal wating to be be put out of our misery.

For me, the issue now becomes how the club handles accountability and deals with such a humiliating experience. If the club comes together and recognizes that forever whenever the FA cup is in the news we will be remembered more as the club that set a record humbling defeat, versus the club that outperformed expectations, we can start a healing and recovery process. There will be damage to our global brand and I want to see some culpability, some humility, and some response to set the tone for the rest of the season.

Richards looks solid only when he has Munoz and Lacroix either side of him as protection. He'd never be good enough to play in a back four. He was shocking for their second goal, but where was the right back at the time? PS I'm not making him a scapegoat – everyone was a disgrace.

Absolutely, a disgraceful performance and result. The players let the club and all our supporters down. I will certainly NOT be giving them a welcome when they enter the pitch at our home game against Chelsea.
I am looking downwards at the table and I never envisaged having to do so this season.

No we aren’t being unfair. The players were an utter disgrace. It’s not a one off either. Several times this season when the going has got tough in matches our players have shrunk and there has been a lack of response.

To be honest I now find it hard to trust this group. Yesterday was unprofessional. Not because we lost but the way we showed up. Thats on the players, the coaches and the manager. All of them showed there are serious issues with the culture of the team at the moment.
