F A Cup Team v Stockport

Hope the weather's OK in the county of Stockport. I do believe your most famous celebrity fan was Mike Yarwood, and have just checked and your nickname is the hatters, like Luton County. Good to see you back in the football league, could see you were going places when you beat Bolton 5-3 on the box in the cup a couple of years back. Thanks for the info but we mustn't underestimate you, Posh played some good stuff at Everon last night and even without your better players I'm sure you'll make us work very hard to get a result and will carry a serious threat.
The Bolton game was a great reminder to people that we still existed and were on our way back.

2 own goals, a last minute equaliser to go to extra time, local derby, under the lights and on BBC. It was a good example of what the magic of the cup is.

it was fifth tier versus third tier and it was a great game, really good football by both sides, it showed the magic of the cup and the depth of quality in England.

Fly in the ointment being if Chelsea decide tonight/tomorrow or even Sunday morning that they don't want Chalobah cup-tied.
Wouldn't that have been determined one way or the other when the contract was agreed? He played in the other cup

And get righteously outraged at dodgy offside decisions

Maybe / Maybe not but I have always said I would rather have games without VAR (Goal line technology only) and live with the officials decisions, right or wrong. VAR is killing the enjoyment and excitement during the game and has destroyed the euphoric moments of when a goal is scored and awarded by the referee.

VAR has NOT eradicated the ‘dodgy decisions’ either and is STILL getting loads of decisions wrong!

Yes. I agree. Still seems as subjective as ever and it is rubbish standing around before a goal is given. Kills the celebrations.

Although if I am being honest, at the point when a goal is scored against us, I automatically look up toward the big screen in the faint hope of some magical VAR interference / any possibility that its going to get chalked off.

Absolutely. To be clear when VAR works in our favour it js a wonderful piece of innovation that has improved and modernised the game. When it works against us it is an abomination that is against the spirit of football.

Then you see the goal scored against us is under review and you wait and you wait and you wait.
Give me instant decisions any day for or against, good or bad. It's called the highs and lows of live football. Elation or down, that for me is what football is all about. VAR kills all that instant emotion. It's why the powers that be brought it in, to smooth off the rough edges. Slow us all down kill the highs and the lows. Woke city at it again!

Just as crazy is how the offside now works where the linesman doesn't raise his flag having to wait until the move is over. Madness. The only good techno rule is goal line technology. Instant and indisputable.

Offsides - I too, see absolutely no good coming from the waiting to raise the flag- no idea who or what ever thought that was a good idea.

Portsmouth won the FA cup and got relegated a few weeks later. It sums up how i feel about these cup competitions. a loadaBollix

i hope Everton go all the way to Wembley, extra time & penalties .....& lose. Then get relegated from having a tired broken squad.

For me, the Prem is everything. Clattenburg ruined the FA cup for me. I would only give the FA cup a serious go if my squad were between 9th and 14th in the Table....no risk of relegation and no European glory to be chasing.

So today ? play the kids plus Kamada & Nketiah......for a bit of a run out. See if the latter two can find some form. And the outcome of the match is kinda irrelevant.

Anorak alert: 9 games yesterday involving Prem sides versus championship or lower. Aggregate 36 goals to 5. Not much magic of the cup there. On that basis we should win 4-1 or 4-0 🙃

of course we can thump teams from the lower leagues. But is it worth it ? 'injuries & fatigue' scare me for our Prem survival.

Blimey, I've seen some paranoid posts in my time. Still, just another excuse to drag in 'anti-woke' issues - again.
