F A Cup Team v Stockport

In the past, Ollie has always fielded the strongest team in the Cup. But that was in leagues that didn't have such a tightly packed fixture list as the Premier League and also had a longer winter break. It will be interesting to see if he starts to rest some of the regulars against easier opponents in the Cup.
I am confident in asserting that some of our regulars will not be in the starting 11, perhaps named on the bench.
I expect to see Kamada and Nketiah start , perhaps even Devenny.

Stockport are 7th in League One having being promoted last season.
They have lost 2 of their last 4 games and have lost 2 of their last 3 Away games.
I suspect their top scorer Louie Barry, on loan from A.Villa, will not feature as I believe he will be loaned to a club in the Championship.

Barry has already departed so that is a big loss for them. Keep an eye on his progress BTW. Plays a similar position to Eze and has an eye for a goal. Definitely too good for div 1.

This is my pick, which is obviously the best one,

-----------------Turner------------------
----Richards--Chalabah*--Riad--------
Clyne--Doucoure--Devenny--Agbinone
---------Kamada------Sarr--------------
----------------Nketiah------------------

* Chelsea blocking realise for F.A Cup?

Good Choice 👍

Like any lower league team, Stockport will be looking to become the latest FA Cup giant killers. OG will field a strong team. There is no way (IMO) he's going to rest over half the 1st team.

It's alright saying we can have the big guns on the bench and bring them on if needs be, but that can backfire if the minnow's confidence has risen because they're winning and playing well and we're not.

The question is which players does OG feel he NEEDS to rest OR which bench players does he feel he wants to give a start to?

I think Nketiah and Kamada will start and Clyne will come in for one of the wingbacks. Also given our paucity in the DM department with Wharton (and probably Hughes) out, he may start Devenny or look to bring him on after 55-60 minutes if we're in control of the game. Riad will probably get some minutes but not necessarily from the start.

If people think we're in a relegation battle then so are West Ham, Man U and Spurs just above us.

Hubris! Stockport are good.

Turner, Riad, Clyne, Richards, Devenny, Nketiah, Doucoure, Kamada and juniors to fill the other roles. But...

If the League Cup is anything to go by, little change from the team that played Chelsea and will play the following games.

I realise that we have to guard against complacently, but of those players mentioned, they are all considered good enough to play in The Prem, and most can be considered to be challenging for a first team place.
However good Stockport are, they are a div 1 team; one that isn't even in the playoff spots. Even with the FA Cup gian killing 'boost', if these players cannot beat Stockport, then it really does show how thin our squad is.
I'm not saying it'll be easy, Stockport will put up a decent fight - and players such as Doucoure/Riad even Richards aren't 100% after their injuries, but I fully expect these Players to have 'enough' IF they are selected.

OG already has already mentioned that after we play Stockport next Sunday, we only have a few days recovery until we play hugely important games against Leicester & West Ham.

I guess it comes down to priorities - but personally, I would play a weaker team against Stockport.

What would your team be?
i would play the kids ( plus Kamada and Nketiah )........ cos injury to any of them will not crucify our League progress.
And if any player shines, give them a chance against some Prem opposition in the coming months.

We have a critical run of league games coming up. Leicester is a massive one for us. Win that and we are well clear of them. Lose it and we back to being bang in the teeth of the relegation fight. They will target it as a must win. While I want us to win every game frankly the Leicester game is much more important and (as far as possible) I want a rested and fully fit team for it. Our squad is thin and losing any of the likes of Mitchell, Mateta, Eze or key central midwifed players leaves a gap that can’t be filled. If OG plays a near full strength eleven it would be madness IMO

Agree.

if they are good enough to sit on a prem bench on 40k+ a week, they are good enough to do a job against Stockport.

Still, I expect we'll see about 50% of first team players rested.

Palace should be to much for Stockport whatever eleven OG puts out. But first of all this is the FA cup littered with giant killings. Also Stockport will be the team that plays together week in week out, if Palace change more than half the team ,it’s a team yet to develop ,that invariably not just for Palace, is so often the banana skin. OG will probably start three or four partial starters off the regular bench which should keep the cohesion of the team, and should be enough to beat Stockport.IMO.

This looks about right to me. OG will be taking the cup seriously and rightly so, but I don't think we'll need our strongest 11 to beat Stockport. If Riad is fit, would be great for him to get some minutes under his belt.

It's been a busy period with two big games to follow. Fortunately we've got a draw which gives us an opportunity to rest key players. I'd go for Schupp on the left and Henderson between the sticks though. Stockport will be no roll over.

We'll need the likes of Eze and Mateta on standby in case things goes pear shaped.

Completely agree….

Though I guess the other side of the debate is….if you bought a ticket (with your hard earned money) for the game, surely there is an expectation to see a strong Palace team play and not reserve players?

I've struggled to get tickets for PL games, so this my first chance to take my daughter to a competitive game (she's been to a couple of friendlies) so selfishly I hope it's a strong team. A six-hour round trip to watch Schlupp, Ward and Kamada doesn't fill me with much excitement! If we changed the whole first team and Stockport went with their first XI I think we might struggle to create much as our squad depth is poor in the creative areas of the pitch. My guess is that anyone considered a risk will be rested (eg Doucoure) and everyone else will start with important players subbed on the hour mark if the game is in our favour by that point. This seems to be OG's strategy and he clearly fancies a cup run.

I think we start strong with the intention of winning the game by 60 minutes and thus taking a few key players off - I can’t see OG wanting to gamble away progression in the fa cup.

Makes sense. Playing time for those that need it. And if things don’t go well
Enough bring on 1st team folks in second half as Gunners did to us.
