Eze to spurs?

Well my faith in Eze the man is restored.

He’s going, I have no doubt and I believe it’s in the clubs longer term growth to sell for the right price. But for me it’s HOW you leave that counts.

Not behaving like Isak and Wissa (probably going against the advice of his agent in the process) speaks volumes about him as a person and once again the so called “reputable journalists” turn out to be full of sh++…..who knew!

So long as it’s clear speculation then carry on. All adds a bit of spice.
Hopefully this time you were wrong which I’m sure you would be happy about.
I'll refer you to my original post :

I met a man last weekend when I was going to the CS and he said he was a manager at the hotel in Marylebone where Palace stay. He said Eze arrived 4 hours after all the other players and wasn't joining in with anything. I was sceptical until he showed me selfies with him and Ebbs and other photos. He said Ebbs did not look happy. Make of that what you will.

I gave no opinion, just relayed what I was told and pictures I was shown. Certain bellends on here don't seem to understand that. And yes , I really don't want to see him go.

If Eze's heart is no longer in the club, then let him go. It's depressing that, despite all the 'kissing of the badge', when a bigger (????Spurs?????) club comes in, any professional footballer will depart. Eze can earn millions at Palace in the next five years. How much money does a man want? And he's a guaranteed starter. For any top six club, would that be the case? (Then again, it is Spurs we are talking about).

OR:

He's happy as can be playing for the club! It's the club that wants to sell him, so that it can keep Guehi. By the time we've paid Chelsea the 25% of Guehi's fee, and for some reason, he is rated as being 'only' worth £50m, it won't be worth it. And if the player leaves for no fee, then presumably Chelsea gets nothing? So let Guehi leave for nothing in a year's time, if that's what he wants to do, and pocket ?£65 million less any add ons for Eze in the coming week. Just as long as it is that much.

More generally, all clubs have ceilings and Palace has certainly smashed its. This has been, under Glasner, an amazing group of massive over-achievers. Let's not forget the team that finished third in the old First Division of the early nineties and was only kept out of Europe thanks to Heysel. That was our best ever team. But this one isn't far behind. I just wish that great players wouldn't always want to leave to join a 'bigger club'. Wouldn't it be amazing if there were players who just said: 'I have far more money than I need. I'm more than happy where I am.' What does that tell us about human nature?

As it is, we are at that stage when the middling clubs sell their best players to the bigger clubs, which remain...the bigger clubs. And middling clubs remain...middling clubs. How tedious is that?

So it's a game at which both employers and employees play and with Eze, it's difficult to know where the intention to leave Palace comes from.

If Eze is wanting to leave, it is more likely because he wants to win more trophies and:
  1. He hasn't got many years left to achieve that
  2. He doesn't believe that Palace will be able to reach the heights he wants to play at (Champions League and challenge for the PL title).
As we keep saying, players' careers at the top level don't last long. To his credit Eze has given us 5 of his.

Guess your name is after Mike Elwiss who we got from Preston back in about 1974ish???. Great player who's career was ended by knee damage if I remember correctly

I will probably be embarrassed over the next couple of days, but I am going to predict that Levy will be so tight over the deal that it will fail because the combination of timing and value to Palace will result in us refusing to do it (ie he'll keep negotiating on the price until it is too late for us to replace Ebs). Let's see.

Based on Levy's pass history think you may be right. His a tight fisted sod who thinks he can get players on the cheap an will not pay market value for a stick of celery let alone a class footballer

This is another important point worth making. This Romano fella a year ago had an outstanding reputaion for reliable transfer information. This summer in particular he has trashed his own reputation by spouting as much if not more gossip and hearsay as all the other hacks.
I've now reached a point where I feel he is no more reliable than anyone else. Probably being chucked a few quid to talk up Eze's chances of moving by Eze's agent who will have a nice fat fee coming his way if Eze actually moves.
Yeah man. Bring back Dazza!

A soccer player's window to earn top money is relatively short and it just takes one big injury to seriously impact their career. Eze is quality and if he can get a double your money contract with a club playing champions league then good luck to him. The issue for Palace as a business model is to plan for this to happen and identify suitable replaces to step up when players are sold. Admittedly easier said than done. I think in hindsight Palace have been guilty of holding on to their top players for too long and not getting the maximum return for some of their signings (Zaha and Guehi spring to mind) The flip side of this is that if these players had been sold at their peak would we have been relegated ( in Zaha's case ) or would we have won the FA cup ( in Guehi's case ) ?
I think in Eze's case they have signed Esse as a future replacement. Whether he will be good enough now or in another season or not at all we will have to see. The problem in Guehi's case is we don't look to have a suitable replacement and i think we are looking for top dollar for a player with only 1 year left on his contract. We really need to persuade him to sign a new contract, accept he will go next year on a free, or drop our asking price.
O'Brien who we sold for a relatively small fee looks like he could have been that replacement but he is now at Everton. It will be interesting to see if and who we might sign in the post Freedman era.
