Everton vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Remember this is Everton. Whe did we last beat them? If bogey teams exist they are ours ! Come out fighting second half and we could get a point
But - for reasons mentioned above -we
Probably won’t. ManC next that will be easier !
Thats a 10 game run in the league now. Next up Man City who are at 9. still behind Forest 12 and Chelsea 17. We have a lot of bogey teams

A very poor performance against a side that would have lost against most of the other prem sides today. Thought Kamada stayed on way too long today. Was knackered after 60 mins. Defending sloppy and passing by all just not good enough. We lost to many challenges and didn’t take our first half chances against a poor Everton team. It’s going to be a long first couple of months and if we don’t strengthen our first 11 then a long season is ahead of us. Hopefully the Hull and Ipswich wins today was just a fluke day for them as we need the promoted teams to get relegated. Otherwise we will get drawn into it with Europe ahead of us? Early days I know but nothing I’ve seen in pre season and today gives me any positives :-(
Spot on, unfortunately.

Sage had already stated that the players were not yet ready to implement his ideas and that he would start off partially using a system that the players were used to ala Glasner ball.

We need to see how he is going to set up moving forward but fan and points pressure won’t take long to kick in.

Zero wins after 5 games and there will be some raised eyebrows but he deserves a chance.
I've no problem with Sage, this is his first fully competitive match against a team we often struggle with.
It's unfortunate that he has some lesser options to select from, the best players tend to leave.

This is all on Parish - he dilly’s and dally’s in transfer windows.

We lost Guehi 6 months ago and Lacroix 2 weeks ago - you cannot lose players of that quality and not replace them.

That’s why I’ve been saying all window long we need two quality centre backs.

Combination of Canvot, Richards and Riad ain’t going to cut it as today and pre-season proved.

What has Parish done bought in Desasi on loan - even that he couldn’t do in time for him to play today.

We were in for Matsima - faffed around to the point Augsburg walked away from negotiations.

Diomande went to Forest for £30M - we did nothing to get him.

We were in for Kossounou - went no further.

Le Guen - what’s happened there - player agreed to join us.

At this level you cannot conduct business like this and not expect the consequences - it’s that simple.

Parish never learns - everything is done too late.

I feel for Sage - no doubt he was promised funding in the window but again Parish has been too slow.

I said on another thread - with Desasi coming in and then if we get Le Guen and Danois would be a good window.

But the point is even if we do that it was as usual done too late - upshot you get days like this.

What’s Sage supposed to do - he can only play the players available to him..!!

Once again we’re going to have another slow start whilst everything and everyone settles down - and that’s all due to Parish.

We are 'Birds on the same twig' on this matter.
Until recently I had an 'Open mind' but my dial has moved and rests on 'Negative'.

Far too early to judge Sage , particularly against our nemesis Everton who we rarely beat.
However, conversely if we lose to Villa (who never beat us), then come back and we can discuss Sage...!

We look very weak in central defence, and up front without Sarr. Mateta, Strand-Larsen, Nketiah, Canvot and Riad are all pony.
If we want to stay in this league, perhaps we need to get knocked out of Europe ASAP, and recruit an experienced CB and striker a bit lively.

We won in Glasner's first game 3-0 home to Burnley, that was the only win in his first 6 games.
I am reminded about the supporter who messaged me to predict that Sage would not last until December and will be replaced by Dyche.
He does not believe that Sage was the right appointment.
One of my rare visits to Selhurst Park. Burnley had already given up on the season and had a player sent off early doors for pulling Lerma (of all people) back. We only got up and running once Olise was back for that final 19 points from 21 run-in

Meant to say then panic buys and signs the dross that is/was Strand Larsen and Johnson for a combined £82M. Just hope that doesn’t happen again - otherwise we’re in for a long and difficult season..!!

Come on Steve get doing the do..!!

What was really depressing about today is you could see it coming from the end of last season. Going into the closed season we badly need to improve the defence, bring more energy and bite into midfield and get some leadership into the squad. It was also clear the Glasner system had been well and truly worked out in the Legaue.

Naturally then we start the season with much worse defence, having added no depth in midfield, let alone improved the starting eleven and with zero leadership in the squad. We then bring in a manager who plays the same system and tactics that have been found out. What we have done is added lots of players in positions we didn’t need them in, including bringing back a player who underwhelmed on loan last season.

Let’s see how the next few games pan out but I think we are going to be bang in trouble
