Edouard

Most of those goals came in 1-0 wins or 1-1s if I can remember in the first half of last season. They kept us afloat and we needed them at that time.
He was still completely inept, 15mins for Leicester on loan, that decision alone was enough to sack Cooper

Tin hat time but I think he's got some skill. Whether he shows it for us is the question. He's the sort of player who never really looks as though he's trying particularly hard but can still produce, in a very small way he plays like Berbatov used to. Maybe he needs a bit of confidence...I'm scrabbling here.

He does appear two-footed in that he is predominantly right-footed but will shoot and cross with his left foot and has scored with both feet.
I believe at Celtic there were issues with his work rate.

I was thinking the same earlier today. Not in Berbatov's class, of course, but he does have some skill.

He's better at running with the ball at his feet than he is without it but he scored 57 in 94 for Celtic, albeit against lesser opposition, so he knows where the goal is. Without belabouring the Berbatov comparison he's another who prefers placing the ball to putting his laces through it which can make him look a little underpowered.

I wish; 10% of his dosh would be very nice.
Sorry if it looks as though I'm overstating it but I do think there's a player in there. Somewhere.
There clearly is and his goalscoring record with us, while nothing to shout about is not a disaster either. As I and others have said, on the face of it we could have saved ourselves £25m, stuck with him and not be much worse off. In terms of hold up play he’s a big drop off from JPM but then so is Nketiah. Just think what £25m could have got us at LWB. All water under the bridge now though.

Is Eddie any better ?
Nketiah was only a bit-part player at Arsenal so one did not get too many opportunities to witness him ply his trade for the club. I did see him play for Arsenal on a few occasions and also when he was on Loan at Leeds and I cannot say I was overwhelmed by his performances !

When I heard about the financials of the prospective deal, I thought that someone was having a josh and spinning me a yarn.Time will tell if he justifies the outlay.

Not kidding. Whilst he was at Arsenal, teams could think (as Palace did) that maybe he just needs more opportunities. Unless there is a complete conversion, that theory has been blown. We have a 20 million further wage commitment on him to an age when he will have little sell on value
It cannot help with the Mateta contract negotiations that Nketiah earns twice as much but is nowhere near the Frenchman's class. TBH, our only hope is that Moyes has a man-crush on him and thinks he might solve their dire goal scoring from open play and Nketiah fancies it up North. I'm not holding my breath
Assuming we stay up, we are facing going into next season with him and Edouard as our options or letting Mateta run out his contract

Yep. Unless he improves dramatically it will be our worst ever transfer in terms of of value for money. Even if he was doing well I’d still question it as a piece of business. Spending £25m on a position where we had a good starting player was silly. The fact Nketiah has contributed almost nothing makes it a disaster so far. It could all change as it did with JPM but that would mean Nketiah bucking the trend of his entire career

Being overly cynical deals like this make you wonder if there is an element of keeping an agent, or maybe the selling club, onside with an eye to future deals. Clubs do sometimes pay incredible amounts for players who should be a lot cheaper.

It could well be the worse ever.
Max Meyer was wages only.
Kamada is wages only.
Benteke was big fee and big wages for many years
Nketiah will be in a par with Benteke if not worse.
I can’t think of a worse deal we have ever done.
I’m sure someone can work out the gross outlay for contract term.

its too early to say for sure but i think he is. His movement, willingness to run are clearly better. He is more of a poacher and not a target man so we need to develop a different game plan to get the most out of him.
The market will decide what Edouard is worth. Let's see where he ends up. Not sure we are going to get a fee for him, in the absence of a decent loan deal. He definitely won't be picking up a similar wage anywhere else. Seems like we all need to be reminded every now and then of the depths Scottish football has plumbed in recent years. Celtic would struggle in the National League, and the rest are a joke.

I think Nketiah will turn out to be a good buy, he needs a run of games, i believe will all said that about Mateta when Edouard was playing, no he isn't as strong or as aggressive, but he is quick, sharp in the box, and the header he scored against Arsenal was superb, lets give him a chance.
