Crystal Palace vs. Zirinjski Mostar match thread

Very nice to see Canvot have a good game. There is potential there, perhaps. His positioning, concentration and knowledge are not up to premier league standards yet, but he's a kid, and it won't do him any harm to walk off the pitch having done a good job for the whole game, even if only against unknowns who applied only modest pressure.

Good solid win. Performance better than against Wolves. An earlier second goal would have been better for everyone's blood pressure but can't have it all. Good to see Guessand improving and contributing. Also a good performance from Canvot, it's easy to forget he's only 19.

Hopefully we really can start building some momentum now.

Canvot looked really good. 19 years old!
Sarr really off his game. Munoz been off it for weeks. Everyone else a 6.5.
Canvot was my MotM tonight. For a youngster to get booked early and stay as composed as he did was great to see. I think the wing backs sitting deeper because of the formation’s deficiencies really restricts Munoz. But, where would we play him if we go 4-4-2? Probably will never be an issue as very sadly he won’t be still here next season as much as I’d like him to be and ‘OG the og’ will never change the current formation. However, the ‘new faces’ are starting to settle in, despite OG’s pessimism, and I can see us running into a bit of form if we keep the squad fit!

The job was done, no complaints here.

Re the transfer window; (so far)

Guessand is the obvious winner of the 3, but I think that was pretty obvious with only BJ and JSL as competition. I like JSL, but he isnt worth anything near £48m. He is a younger Chris Wood, as Jeff Stelling correctly labelled him the morning after the window closed on Talksport. A battering ram who will score a goal or two occassionally. Not a top half Premier League footballer, just like BJ isnt.

Pleased for BJ to get an assist, hopefully can push on now.

Two things are clear however. We need to sign Guessand from Villa in the Summer (if we can afford it) and sadly, we still need another prime JP up front if we are serious about the top 10. JSL and BJ are not the answers, but then again they never were.

Do we have an obligation / option to buy after his loan finishes?

Thought Guessand looked great in the second half. Obviously the best of all our new signings isn't actually a proper signing. I thought Canvot looked good too, nervous on the ball at times, but otherwise good.

Too many left to right passes across the half way line though. Especially in the first half. It was like watching windscreen wipers from the Holmesdale end.

Canvot 110 passes completed. Most ever by an English club player in the 3 European leagues in any one game. At a minimum, this game should, I hope, really help him settle. Confidence can do wonders for a 19yo.

If someone said at any stage that he was a world class player we’d somehow got on loan (post-injury lay off or something), I would have found it believable.

He was great on the ball, moved it forward, looked sharper and more technically gifted than others plus a real physical presence.

That may be more a reflection of other poor performers in our side and the low quality of the opposition but ‘on the night’ etc.

A quote was attributed to Glasner by the commentator, something like “He[Canvot] has the hardware we just need to download the software”. That rang true.

I don’t doubt there may be a few more mistakes in terms of professional decision making, awareness etc but he doesn’t have many senior games and after a while, can see him being the real deal

Others may disagree and that’s fair enough of course but I have high hopes for him whilst he’s here.

I agree Guessand has hit the ground running and Johnson is taking longest to adapt but you’re a bit premature in your assessment of JSL. He works hard and gets in decent positions. He’s surprisingly good with the ball at his feet and capable of getting assists as he did last week. Unfortunately, with Munoz being so low in form and Mitchell making one decent cross per game, he’s not getting the service. I think he’ll come good.
