Crystal Palace vs. Southampton match thread

And not forgetting our best ever value for money player Max Meyer.
Maybe Mutch and Meyer have faded a tad.

I honestly want Kamada to be a success, to be a real player for us. I just don’t know how long a player needs. Devenny came in for a few cameo’s during the mini injury crisis we had and looked the part straight away.

Wharton and Munoz too. Both hit the grass running.

ML and Trev needed a couple of games and now look steady.

So the question is, for the wages being paid, how long do you keep throwing good money after bad? It can’t be nice for him either.

The 3 points was crucial today, but that is our best 11, bar Wharton, the formation means we play one attacking player less than most teams in the premier, and all the top 10 teams, this isn't the time to change anything much, but i would not spend a fortune in the Jan Window, unless it is a left footed attacking player, use the loan system, 2 spots still available.

A wins a win. We have been in good form lately results wise. Few ugly points is what we needed.
We have only really lost to arsenal.

I’m with you, despite my incredulity towards Kamada I never want any Palace player to fail, but as you have said, Devenny hit the ground running, whereas Kamada has had plenty of looks and opportunities in numerous positions but failed to impress for more than about 15 minutes at a time.

You cannot carry passengers and expect to progress in this league.

Might be worth selling him back to the league where they remember him as a decent player.

Indeed, and wording it another way, Devenny is being denied his opportunity by Glasner's fixation with Kamada. We've seen that Glasner will also bring on Doucoure late on, probably in an effort to bring him up to match fitness, but where does this leave Devenny?

It was disturbing to drop behind so early; I didn't entirely see the 'sloppy goal' criticism; Walker-Peters is a good player and if Munoz had got past him like that we'd have been pi**sed off to be told it was sloppy defending. After that, once we settled in the game really only looked like ending one way. The spell of total Palace dominance leading up to our second goal was particularly enjoyable and it felt disappointing somehow not to see a bigger margin of victory stacked up; but conserving player energy towards next week's much sterner test rightly got prioritised.

How bad are Southampton, if they think continually pulling players back and trying to get players booked will succeed in the Premiership then keep going? Admittedly that ref was so weak in that first half he might as well of not been out there.

3 deserved points we can now look up, Southampton straight back down to the Championship!

Great result after being behind but the performance was generally poor.

Sarr again looked good and Hughes and Lerma did well in midfield but we did seem sloppy in possession again, particularly at the back.

Mateta did a sterling job as the lone striker and Bednarek should’ve been carded way earlier.

We scored from a corner and it’s good to see Chalobah chipping in again.

My other main takeaway from today is just how lacking in ideas we are from throw-ins and free-kicks in our own half. No movement, lack of application and as for the free kicks on the left, Mitchell didn’t want to take them and neither did Richards! Total and utter shambles. The amount of times we immediately lose possession from our own throw-ins or free-kicks is scandalous. Surely a few set moves should be worked on for these scenarios instead of not even know who is going to take a free kick. We must have had twenty odd combined today and some form of strategy from them would potentially be the difference we need some days, in both scoring more and conceding less.

Thought the ref was atrocious today.

Also thought that we looked disorganised at the back and going forward we looked lightweight and equally short on ideas or a discernible identity.

We were reduced to stupid flicks amongst the poor passing to try and create something. We still should have scored at least 4.

Munoz was easily and embarrassingly beaten for their goal. Also missed another open goal.

Eze’s continual invisibility and sloppiness was forgiven with a superb finish.

Hughes yet again looked our best player.

JPM put in an excellent shift.

Mitchell did quite well second half but didn’t look anything like a footballer in the first.

Southampton didn’t appear to have any redeeming qualities to accompany their inevitable relegation.

Shaping up to be another stereotypical and quite underwhelming season. I’m sincerely hoping for a surprise in January but it’s only a hope, I don’t expect anything.

Much needed 3 points nonetheless. COYP.

I wish we had bought Nketiah on Amazon. Maybe he would still be under warranty. How can someone come on for only 2 minutes and still manage to screw up a good breakaway and pick up a card
Kamada was his usual standard. Devenney should really be coming on ahead of both of them, particularly when the team is leading

Mitchell put us under pressure so many times in the first half with repeated unforced errors. Even in the second half he was filling in on the right side of the back 3 whilst we had an attacking corner / free kick and instead of a simple cushion header to Hughes, who was in acres of space, he headed it straight to the Southampton left sided attacker and they were straight on us with a dangerous attack. Most teams would’ve punished us from that but thankfully Southampton were fairly blunt in attack. Desperately need the LWB position improved.
