Crystal Palace vs. Nottingham Forest match thread

It did niggle me that every one of our goals VAR was trying to make an issue of, what every bloody goal? Fcuk off and then f*** off some more, you do start to wonder sometimes about the integrity, especially when we’re playing the fat gangsters lot and he’s been seen ordering lorry loads of cement
To be fair we could do with that cement for our stand. It doesn’t grow on trees you know.

VAR is ruining many of the games.
It’s noteworthy that the Championship don’t want it.
TV loves it because e.g they can debate ad infinitum whether Palace’s second goal should have stood which is ridiculous - the goal has been given and the debate is meaningless.
It’s lazy punditry when they could be discussing tactical points or exciting play.

I maintain that the main purpose of VAR seems to be try to find reasons to disallow goals.

Wasn't it the Ipswich game where we had a goal disallowed for offside, but when Ipswich scored one that was pretty damn close the ref didn't even entertain a look at VAR? Or perhaps it was the scrutiny that led to the Diasi red card.

Anyway, not saying it would've been given offside, but if does sometimes feel like they bust a gut to find problems with something we have done but not our opponents.

Feels that way against the big sides.

BBC say their experts analysed the footage for 30 mins and eventually decided the ball had grazed an arm and so should have been ruled out. Except that is bollocks.

It's supposed to be a clear and obvious error by the match officials.

In fairness to VAR they looked and couldn't decide, ergo not clear, not obvious, ergo, unable to prove referee had made an error, ergo original decision stands.

I'm surprised it didn't lead to us being kicked out of the Europa League.

I'm sure we will be on the recipient end of a decision like that at some stage this season and we will be livid 🤣

Just a some points before the Europa League comes into focus. Firstly I can’t remember if we have ever scored 3 or more goals in four games in our first eight matches. Secondly 7 of yesterday’s starters have come back from a long break for international duty. Khalaili in particular played in the stressful cauldron of Israel bashing, talks of boycott and where people of his background are not supported by half the population. Thirdly we had Deano and Tomiyasu out. Whilst Benitez had a blinder yesterday I thought his mobility for the third Ipswich goal was poor and cost us a point.

Hopefully now there will be the opportunity for the defence to work together and build some consistency over the coming weeks.

And Rooney doesn't like var

What, he's offered Parish a start on the new stand? Very generous of him, donuts all round!

It does pi55 everyone off I think, you score a goal, celebrate, everyone’s ready to kick off, even the other team sometimes are not making a fuss and then the ref sticks his finger to his ear and you hear that fcuking awful VAR sound!!

One could argue that we were fortunate to win both this game and the Fulham game. So our points haul and league position are somewhat flattering. Things need to improve in defence quickly.
One could also argue we were unlucky at Leeds by being offside by a toenail away from a win against a team in form.
