Crystal Palace vs. Nottingham Forest match thread

He displayed more energy and cut and thrust than Mateta who was dominated by aggressive defenders and was off the pace. A very disappointing show from him.
It wasn't Mateta's best game but Nketiah did come in against a tiring defence most of whom were already on a yellow card. Had their situations been reversed Mateta may well have looked more threatening too.

Very average game, expected result.

Although we dominated the game for large periods it was only really our defence that stood out as being on form. I thought both Mateta and Eze looked off it Wharton and Kamada showed some flashes without setting the world alight and when Nketiah came on he did his normal, tries hard but with zero end result.

The team appears to be on tickover waiting for the big one.
Talking of ‘ticking over the last 7 league results are,
DWLLDDD.

This can be viewed as ‘we’ve only won one in seven’ or ‘we’ve only lost two in seven’ depending upon your state of mind.

I think we’re performing reasonably well in those games without looking capable of taking games away from the opposition.
I also think we’re more or less where we deserve to be in the table.

One final point.
For a manager who is so organised and structured, I’m surprised that Glasner seems so relaxed about choice of penalty taker.
He’s more or less delegated it to Eze and Mateta to determine between themselves on the pitch who should take it.
What happens if both or neither want to take it, or both are off the field when a penalty is awarded?
Most clubs have a designated penalty taker and then a second and third choice so the situation is clear.
May seem like a minor point, but am I the only one who doesn’t feel entirely confident when we’re awarded a penalty?

I was quite pleased to be honest, it was a better performance than I was expecting after our results before the semi. The commitment was spot on as well.
Although looking at how surprisingly average Forest were, I suppose it did feel like a missed chance of all three points

I thought Eze's penalty last night was terrible. His run up if you could call it that was all over the place I was waiting for him to trip up and fall over.

Fortunately for us he scored but if he does that again it's an accident waiting to happen. I just prefer players to hit the ball cleanly from a simple run up.

I am advised that Sarr has scored penalties for both Watford and Senegal.

Apparently Ismailia Sarr is our 3rd choice penalty taker - (according to OG in last nights post game presser) he also said he doesn't feel the need to interfere too much on how they take them, I suppose its one of those things that so long as they score most of them, then no one is going to mind.

I heard the same sentiments in relation to Ivan Toney and his record from the spot is outstanding.

This was exactly how I felt. We had two nightmare games then played like gods against men vs Villa followed by a much expected drop off in intensity.

I suppose it’s difficult to recreate that intensity when there isn’t as much at stake however I did feel that was two points lost last night. To anyone saying there is little at stake rest of the season other than the Cup, I believe it’s between £1m and £2m extra for each place you finish up the league, so that’s plenty of encouragement.

As others have also said however it does feel like we are nailed on to a 12th place finish.

I wondered if the final movement was legal but nobody said anything so I figured it must be ok.

From this thread it would appear that if the FA Cup Final goes to penalties our initial options would be Mateta, Eze, Sarr, Kamada.

I just hope Henderson is in top form.....
Could be tricky after that. Can't see any record of Lerma, Hughes, Wharton or Munoz ever taking one.
Might come down to Eddie N. who's scored 6 from 10.

He's been superb all season. And yes today...did more good in 15 minutes than Kamada did all game. Hopefully now this notion that 'Kamada might actually be a great player' can subside. Hughes is twice the player and deserves to start alongside Wharts.

Kamada had another good game. He'll start the next game and start the final.

Wharton and Kamada is clearly the better footballing partnership

For a team whose strength is built on the success of their defence I thought Forest look decidedly shaky last night and basically held on by a very City-like cynical tactic of fouling every time we broke away. They also really struggled to deal with our set-pieces, which were fairly routine. Overall, I thought we edged it, but I did think some players were not quite at their best which probably cost us the three points (Munoz's crossing was awful last night). The standout performers for me were Eze, Mitchell, and Henderson.

The one baffling thing was the VAR intervention on the penalty. First, it was as obvious a penalty as you could hope to see so not quite sure how the ref missed it, but then it took him ages to make his mind up despite seeing Mitchell being chopped down by not one but two players! What was he waiting for? Once again the ref shows leniency to the oppo when it comes to brandishing a second yellow to a couple of their players.

Particularly since the first foul for the penalty was committed by a player, can't remember his name, who was already on a yellow.
