Crystal Palace vs. Nottingham Forest match thread

Our 8 seats in holmesdale block A tonight.
2 attended
2 not gone
2 in a box in the Whitehorse
2 in Barbados.

All been season ticket holders for years, done loads of aways.
Was at the semi final, will be at the final.
We don’t sell our tickets back to the club, just put them on our Wattsapp group.

Didn’t look like many empty seats on the tele ( I was one of the ones that never went )

Very poor atmosphere tonight and lots of empty seats, the club should note these empty seats and ask why they are not being used. How do we generate such good support at Wembley? but our home support is definitely not what it used to be.

I said it once before in this thread, but Nketiah hate is now just forced. How do you look at Nketiah, who objectively had the better game than his starter counterpart tonight, and say he's a waste of space? Baffling.

you call it that. I call it love of Palace. we want the best for the club. We want expensive Goalscorers who score.

you can have a controversial opinion. Or you can have hard statistics.

I don't think it's hate to suggest that we haven't seen much of a £30m player, regardless of the fact that he's not starting (deservedly so)

Nketiah is not as robust as Mateta, but he has more pace and is perhaps more effective in creating scoring opportunities for himself (even if he doesn’t make the most of him). He’s also better in the air.

Both keepers were good tonight. DH didn’t have a lot to do, but a couple of his saves - one in each half - were outstanding.

One downside of our performance was the pressure some of our players seemed to be putting on the ref to get opponents booked. I thought that was poor.

One of them came from Arsenal, has been generally ineffective ,cost £30m and is worth possibly £10m. But Palace pay him £90k pw.

One of them looks like he’s wearing roller skates when he plays, has been generally unplayable for 18 months. , cost a lost less , is possibly worth £60m. But Palace pay him £45k per week

Would like them both to succeed. But one is currently miles better than the other.

My man of the match was Tyrick Mitchell - I thought he was outstanding.

Chris Richards also had a solid game. He’s improving all the time.

Absolutely.

I think of him as a ‘decent’ LB with the added attribute of having not been bought for PL money but nothing more than that. Thought Chilwell would stroll past him into the team.

Tonight was the first time I can recall thinking he was ‘class’. He was ‘class’ tonight - defended very well, got forward well, won a penalty, battled and had quality on the ball. Let’s hope there’s more to come.

Decent point, could’ve been more, COYP.

Monday night, bank holiday train hours, on sky sports and league is over. Surprised we had as many as we did. Tourists also don't really go to midweek games.

Agree tho that the home atmosphere has really declined these days.

It’s a bank holiday, Monday night, games is on tv and it’s a dead rubber really.

I can’t see too many empty seats here must say, plus the game reflects the lack of importance hingeing on this match.

Not making excuses but I’d suggest there are reasons.
And it felt flippin cold at Selhurst tonight, was itching for it to finish half way through the 2nd half to get home and get warm....must be getting old

I thought Hughes was superb when he came on. I still say that he and Wharton are our best partnership in the middle and I hope they are for the Cup Final but I suspect OG will go with Kamada.

Happy with the point. I thought we played well and playing well is vital for momentum going into the Cup Final. The Forest number 6 was so lucky to stay on the pitch.

Ironically both Mateta and Chris Wood who have both been superb all season were both very poor tonight.
He's been superb all season. And yes today...did more good in 15 minutes than Kamada did all game. Hopefully now this notion that 'Kamada might actually be a great player' can subside. Hughes is twice the player and deserves to start alongside Wharts.

Lacroix needs to work on his headers in front of goal. He’s fluffed many easy chances this season. If my memory’s correct it’s all mistimed headers which go miles over the bar. He doesn’t get his head over the ball and commit.
He excels at defensive headers, popping the ball up and out of harm's way. In front of the opponents' goal.

Was not a bad performance and we probably edged it but could have sneaked it as we finished the game the better and looked the most likely team to score in the end. Hopefully Wharton's injury is not serious and he will be available for the Spurs game. Forest defended deeply and packed their 6 yard box making it difficult to get any joy from our set pieces.
Concur that they broke up a lot of our promising breaks by "taking one for the team" and picking up yellow cards a plenty.
I don't see Spurs defending as well when we play them next.

I think thats probably a bit of a reaction to the Bournemouth game with Kluivert conning the ref to get Richards sent off.

How a Forest player never got sent off I don’t know, in the end the Forest manager did the refs job! Should have won that against a very dogged Forest side. The only one that didn’t get booked for them was the coach driver!

In a conversation with a learned gentlemen before taking my seat we both opined that a share of the spoils would be the likely outcome.
Eze somewhat invisible in the first half, Mateta a pale shadow of the player we have seen of late.
On the basis of our second half showing we deserved to emerge victorious.

Nottm For collected 8 bookings, one of them for Dominguez who is no stranger to a Yellow.

Apropos the PL 'Yellow' card table this season, Nottm For are 6th with 78 yellows, we are 11th with 72. Top of the table are Chelsea on 94 and bottom are Brentford on 53.

Very average game, expected result.

Although we dominated the game for large periods it was only really our defence that stood out as being on form. I thought both Mateta and Eze looked off it Wharton and Kamada showed some flashes without setting the world alight and when Nketiah came on he did his normal, tries hard but with zero end result.

The team appears to be on tickover waiting for the big one.

He displayed more energy and cut and thrust than Mateta who was dominated by aggressive defenders and was off the pace. A very disappointing show from him.
