Crystal Palace vs. Middlesbrough match thread

A more controlled second half. Our press wasn't so suicidal so the space for Boro wasn't so big to play into.

We take some risks going forwards which is exciting and can lead to some decent chances. We frustratingly sometimes rush the first pass which kills off an attack before it's even started but I think we've been like that for as long as I can remember.

I've given JSL plenty of criticism but pleased for him and should do his confidence some good. Just needs to do it against a Prem defence now.

Disasi and Honest look promising.

Tomiyasu did ok but importantly lasted 90 mins.

Wharton needs to recalibrate his passing radar.

Mingueza some decent passes a little iffy when defending.

Osorio looked better in spells when we had controlled possession rather than any quick breaks.

Gozo extremely raw.

Hughesy, you've gotta love him.

... And a beautiful finish from Daichi.

Onto the next round!

Good report !

My honest harsh but real thoughts were…

JSL I too am delighted for him, but I also think championship player.

New signings..

Gozo. Oh dear another Franca . Sounds and looks promising but weak and dangerous.

Mingueza . Thought he looked good , gunna be a great addition

Osario . Nothing special yet from what I saw .

Diasi . What we needed massively .

McNeil . = Johnson . Utter garbage.

chillwell. Nice steady . Never gunna wow anything . He’s like the person who passes every test with a grade C.

Whilst Disasi might not be the Guehi/LaCroix replacement we need, he'll do until we find him.

We have a lot better depth this season, we're going to be ok.

Middlesbrough didn’t deserve to lose that 3-0, strange to say but they were the better team, but no cutting edge and three excellent goals from us was the difference

That’s so harsh based on 20 minutes in a won match for McNeila and Gozo. They did what they were on to do which was help see the game out. Not sure what you expected.

I’m certainly not going to write them off based on that and I expect most Palace fans won’t either.

Also bizarre take on Chilwell given he was solid throughout and made one of our goals.

Chillwell is nice steady I said? Just that’s it..

McNeil and Gozo is going all there performances so far.. ? s***

Just back in from the game, great result, My immediate thoughts are we grew into the game.. The depth looked good in terms of the subs.. COYP.

To think last week the doom and gloomers were predicting that we would lose to Fulham, Middlesborough and Ipswich..

Doh... Still got Ipswich to go....

Ultimately an enjoyable evening at Selhurst

Including the most exciting first 15 minutes ever. By exciting I mean absolutely terrifying as our attempts to play out from the back in ever more convoluted ways meant gifting Boro great opportunities. Fortunately they didn't have the quality to take advantage.

It resulted in a mini-training match of attack against defence. And the 3 x CB stood up to the onslaught pretty well. Richards and Canvot have some competition. Chilwell did ok under a lot of pressure but Mingueza, he was on toast and really defending his one on one's very badly. He improved over the game and a great cross to turn the game in our favour after a magnificent run forward from Honest.

Very pleased for Strand Larsen. Hopefully it will boost his confidence. He did do better as a target for the long balls, perhaps more through extra effort and luck rather than judgement but we got into the game once we mixed up the long passes from the back in amongst the risky playing out. That did pay dividends on occasion once we went 2-0 up and our confidence and passing improved.

Evening topped off by Daichi's magnificent finish.

Grew into the game.

JSL man of the match. Has to be really. But unfortunately against Middlesborough...is that his level?

Hughes a very close second. Bossed the midfield, putting to bed any suggestions that he's not up to it.

Mingueza started to look promising I thought too.

Great third goal by Daichi - certainly prefer him higher up the field than one of our 6s.

This was a second string team and looked a little ragged. Need to work on the high press and not leave massive gaps in midfield. Back 3 looked good with Dasasi solid and Honest composed. Ming shaky at times but had a lot going down his side first half. The team lost the ball a lot in the first half trying to play out inviting pressure. First time they passed it around a dozen times they scored. Better in the second half. Wharton with a few too many misplaced passes. Gozo and Osario running around like headless chickens at times. JSL playing to his strengthens although he missed a lot of high balls played up to him. Hughes showing his age. A work in progress, but looking promising for a run in all the cups and a solid mid table league position.
