Crystal Palace vs. Fulham match thread

This outcome falls on OG's shoulders, and I'll bet he knows it. Like the team, he dozed off at the 70:00 mark, preventing him from replacing more skilled players with more energetic ones. Pino, Clyne, Mateta and maybe Devenny should have given way to... anyone. I wouldn't object if the subs had just booted the ball upfield ad nauseum for the final 20 minutes.

Paradoxically, we were both unlucky to draw and fortunate not to lose.

A very poor game. Lack of skill with the ball evident and we much worse than against Spurs.
I give credit to Clyne, Mitchell and Henderson.
Our most skilful players, Pino and Wharton, are not producing and our defence is looking shaky. Even Lacroix made a dreadful pass out to their forward.
Fulham passed the ball better and with a little more composure would have scored more.
Our lack of form at home is worrying, lets hope with Johnson added at Newcastle and hopefully the return of Richards will give us more semblance of a PL team - which we aren't at the moment.

That was a game we should have lost. Clyne and Mitchell played well, Wharton and Lerma had moments and JPM scored. Other than that we were poor again. Pino is dreadful, he should be dropped. Deveney worked hard but no way is he good enough to start. OG is a problem with his tactical inflexibility and making subs way too late. His decisions are starting to hinder our ability to win rather than helping us. Sosa is an awful player.
I agree with most of this but for the second game in a row Devenny was our best forward. He isn’t a 10 and should have been more selfish and less inclined to pass on occasion but he’s worth his place and improving d game on game while Pino and Mateta are going backwards.

When you are 1-0 up and controlling (barely, but definitely controlling) the game, you need to see it out. We are poor at this aspect of the game and find it impossible to shut up shop. Henderson showed why he is the best shop stopper in the league but also displayed his weaknesses at crosses and corners, especially those hit to the far post.

I fear the worst at corners every game.

We don't try to dominate the ball from corners - really missing Richard's heading.

What I found confusing, we had a corner near the end of the game…Wharton about to take it (his corners have been good all game). Sosa comes on, first thing he does is take an awful corner!!!

Wharton should have taken it
We should get rid of Sosa. He has been universally awful for us. Only thing he’s done to influence a game was getting sent off. Compare to Clyne who despite his limitations has given his very best and looked like an actual footballer

Thinking positive its another game we should have put to bed before they found a bit of hope . Our bench just wasn't strong enough to make any changes when we needed to though we all saw it was required ten minutes before the Fulham goal .

The subs didn't make any difference when they did come on which was true to form and why Glasner plays the same team every week .

Johnson signing will at least give Wharton something to think about on Sunday unlike tonight where he had no runners to pick out .

We just are not used to this are we but a points a point and a lot better than some of the predictions on here . Expecting a tough next couple of games but as always .....COYP !

Take the point and move on. We really didn’t deserve to win that game to be fair.

JP, other than the goal I don’t remember him doing anything else, no threat and no holding it up. When he started to come good, at the end of Roys time and then when Ollie took over, his foundation was his hold up play. Admittedly at that point he was playing Eze and Olise in and then later Eze and Sarr.
He needs to get back to basics to find his mojo.

That said if ever there was a sign the players are knackered it was the last half hour. Absolutely spent.

Let’s hope more than Brenda comes in quickly.
Agree re Mateta, apart from the goal his close control was awful and aerial duals mostly lost.
No reason for tiredness given that we have had a 4 day break.
Overall a very poor performance.

Richards is excellent. Sarr is 6'1 and jumps. Muñoz is scrappy and also jumps well. In their absence, our corners and all set pieces have gone from a strength to a weakness.
Even then the one decent corner we put in almost (and should have) resulted in a goal. The rest didn’t beat the first man which is inexcusable for professional footballers

It's no surprise to me that Mateta is finding it difficult.
He's very isolated with Pino and Devenny stationed 30 yards from him.
Neither are front 3 players and on the rare occasions they collect the ball around the penalty area they either lose the ball or make an imcorrect decision.
You never feel they are going to drop the shoulder, beat a player and drive forward or commit a defender.
Not a criticism, they are not a Sarr, Johnson (or for that matter a Munoz) with pace and drive.

We'll do well to get a point in our next two v Newcastle and Villa with our squad limitations.

The injury to Hughes looks bad and Richards is doubtful which means Canvot may need to play, and in his recent performances he has not looked ready.

Mitchell did well again ( for me a candidate for player of the season) and we're indebted to Henderson for the save at the end.

Take a point.

Lerma and Clyne decent. Wharton too. But as usual, Hughes motm and exceptional before he went off. We win that game if he stays on I reckon.

Onto the next one.

Agree JPM is completely isolated. On the rare occasions we actually linked play he made some good runs. Devenny tries hard but doesn’t look like a premier league level number ten. Pino has just been straight out poor for us. Loses the ball, doesn’t beat a man, doesn’t pass well, isn’t creating anything and is lightweight. He needs to be dropped as he is hurting the team right now

Particularly when they take the time to make sure the ball is precisely an inch over the line before taking it.
And then raise one arm which means "I'm going to cross it", or raise both arms which means "I'm going to cross it".
You've misunderstood this.

1 arm. "I won't get this past the first man"
2 arms. "I won't get this past the second man"

WTF? Wharton sent in many passes through the lines, some leading to attacks into the back line. The problem was that several were to Pino. Get it?

The way I see it, any team outside the big 4 are going to miss: Richards, Munoz, Sarr and dare I say it… Kamada. The first three mentioned all play on the right and without them we have lost so much both in defence and attack. That can’t be understated, especially the dynamic movement of Munoz who for me is the engine of the team and plays in 2 places at the same time.

Add to this that Pino is not up to speed. I maintain that there is a player there. I watched him closely today and he has great movement and first touches into dangerous areas but others are not on his wave length. When it clicks we will all think he was a bargain.

We just need to get through these next couple of games any way we can. The likely hood is we will have Johnson in and settled by the time Munoz and Sarr are back. We haven’t suddenly become a bad team. We have just had the busiest period in our history along with AFCON and injuries. COYP
