Crystal Palace vs. Fredrikstad match thread

It all sounds so easy doesn’t it? But NONE of us, despite know it alls thinking they do, would know the first thing about running a premier league football club in the modern climate.
We need a new stand, we need this player, we need that player!! Just maybe we’ve over stretched ourselves getting to the recent heights and we can’t afford the new stand or be able to throw money at new signings, none of us really know. It’s just a shame we can’t trust those that do and enjoy this little period of success however it turns out without all the bollocks.
F'christ sakes, will you stop being so bloody sensible, you know it's not allowed on this site & besides, you're scaring the bejezus out the rest of us. Now, stop it, please. Thank you. Phew. 😀

I am afraid how ever professional the players normally are - they were definitely affected by the loss of Eze last night - in fact - we all were!

Even the normally upbeat Manager had a constant frown on his face! It just didn’t feel right yesterday. We were all desperate to say our goodbyes to Eze, and that never materialised.

There was one positive - and this probably should be debated on another thread, but I thought Sosa was a big upgrade on Mitchell. He can actually take a throw, provides lots of crosses and was energetic going forward.
Can't agree with that, I'm afraid.

Maybe our players had some crazy bonuses for winning the cups and qualifying for europe that was not expected or clubs we bought them from had add ons from sales that kicked in.

Would Glasner be classified as a 'panty wetter' with the concerns he has raised?
Probably, there are a few posters on here that think our mere existence is an acceptable level of stewardship from our board.

Parish has been found out this year with numerous failures, that don’t have to be brought up again in detail but we all know what they are:

1) ground improvement not started again.
2) Dougie not replaced for considerable period.
3) missed the potential issue caused by MCO.
4) failed to bring in players early in the window.
5) failed to buy before selling key player.
6) alienating the best manager we have had since Coppell.

At the end of the day he is in charge, he promises much, talks a good game but ultimately only delivers just enough to keep us in the PL. Our manager has just inspired us to the most successful season ever, so how do the board thank him, by not backing him to the extent they can’t even give him a full squad of players.

No doubt the Forest fans will remind us all of one of his foibles at the weekend.

I wonder how good our scouting network is after DF left. Sosa was a steal at 3mil. Surely there are other similar deals available for players in leagues in the Netherlands, Belgium, Turkey, France etc. We are not a club that can waste 30mil on a player. We have done well with some signings; Eze, Wharton, Olise etc. But for every good one, I can name another expensive flop, Benteke, Sakho, Franca.

If SP gets his way, Guehi will be off in the next 10 days. Thats 90/100mil to reinvest. Surely enough for 4 or 5 good, 20mil players.

I don't know who, I'm not a football scout. Its' up to the club to do the leg work and find the right people.

I don't really blame SP. He has brought the club a long way. But there are crazy inflated transfer fees in England right now, for some pretty average players. Getting value for money is tough. We have to look further afield.

Thought the atmosphere was excellent in the ground, just such a shame that it seems the opposite off the pitch.

It was a real struggle to break down a low block defending team and it was apparent that the one player we have who could possibly find a way through a bit of individual magic was no longer there. Could be a real struggle this season against similar such teams in the Premier League or progress in Europe.
Unfortunately, I think we seemed to have reached our zenith and the inevitable slide is on its way. The manager will be gone (probably before the end of the season) and we have made ourselves vulnerable by gambling on leaving transfer's to the end of the window.

What should have been a great start to a season now looks like we are going backwards. Glasner needs a ready made alternative to Eze and further squad players. Spending 30 million plus on a promising youngster isn't what's needed. I now suspect we are looking at a couple of loans on deadline day and Glasner walking in early September.

Honestly.

Quite how you look at the quotes from an experienced manager like Glasner yesterday and still conclude that anyone on here unhappy with the window is not ‘sensible’ or a ‘panty wetter’ is just plain absurd.

Benteke scored 15 goals in his first season. Under BFS's stewardship that was the main reason we beat the drop.

Sakho was immense in his initial loan spell which again was a major part of the reason we stayed up.

Agreed in the fullness of their time with us both underwhelmed.

Always thought that Benteke failed because we couldn't play to his strengths. Probably best header of the ball striker in the Premier League. We had one winger who we all loved who had to beat his defender three times before shooting or crossing low and another who you could guarantee would cut inside and shoot every time.

Not saying he wasn't at fault either.

Benteke was signed by Pardew that season and scored 9 of his 15 goals before Pardew was sacked in Dec.

Sakho played 8 games for us, including the one where he went of injured.

Clearly they both played a part under BFS but difficult to argue they were major reasons we stayed up that season IMHO

god we are a bunch of doom merchants at times, we didnt lose, our manager is under contract, we got a good deal over eze, we didnt lose...oh and we actually won something last season..🙄🙄
There does not appear to be a great deal of positivity amongst our supporters.
The situations apropos Guehi and Eze, the inactivity in the transfer market, the depth of the squad and a clearly disgruntled Glasner have all contributed to the 'Mood music'.
A defeat to Nottm Forest, which I expect, will swell the ranks of the 'Doom merchants'.

You don’t get the subtlety of the English language do you.

I heard on the radio today that we have lost just 4 games this calendar year.
Our last handful of games have seen us beat Man City, Liverpool and draw at Chelsea.
An incredible feat....and yet the gloom is palpable.
The results suggest that the gloom is unreasonable but the negative vibes are unmistakable.
Will Glasner's warnings be heeded or will they dismissed as the rantings of a man who should understand Palace's place in the pecking order i.e 12th place and knocked out in the 5th round of the FA Cup.
