Crystal Palace vs. Brighton match thread

We ran out of steam, which was predictable.

Canvot had a good game. Mitchell struggled a bit. The front players looked tired.

I'm afraid this is portent for our season. Our schedule is nuts and we will come undone. Signings needed in January.

I think we may make a signing or two in January. It perhaps doesn't look like we'll sign Uche. I wouldn't be surprised for him to go back to his club in January but it might depend on the deal. I've a feeling Glasner would like maybe two players - plus there's the Afcon. I wonder about a Chelsea loan. They have about 100 players.

I hope Glasner proves us all wrong and Esse and Uche go on to be Palace legends, all because he drilled discipline into them and held them back until they were ready… but I struggle to see how Uche could have offered less than Mateta in the last ten minutes. Is it the loss of his defensive ability from set pieces Glasner fears? It’s not as though we are worried about giving the ball away up the field?

Canvot slotting into the back 3 with some ease, could be a double edge sword and Guehi gets sold in January to get some cash for him.
I wouldn’t exactly say some ease.

Several times Lacroix and Richards looked for an out ball and Canvot wasn’t there and Mitchell saved him a couple of times too when he was out of position.

Not saying Canvot was bad because he wasn’t but he’s nowhere near Guehi just yet. I do like his pace and his spikey nature though which he’ll need in the PL.

Canvot did well, in fact very well considering it was his first Premier League start.
He showed a decent turn of pace and reasonable strength. I didn't notice him competing aerially, but perhaps those type of challenges didn't materialise.

Nonetheless, we missed Guehi's assuredness in bringing the ball out of defence, retention of possession and ability to distribute with both feet.
Not a criticism of Canvot - Guehi is a very hard act to follow- and Canvot in time may similarly develop.

Canvot didn't look out of place in his first Premier start, if you consider how Kamada and Pino, both experienced internationals have struggled to settle in the Premier, Canvot was excellent. To expect him to be like Guehi in his first game is ridiculous. We have another bargain buy gem on our hands.

Fatigue setting in. Need to rotate or, if our other players aren't good enough, get more reinforcements.

Wasn't the best game and my eyes kept being drawn to the big screen and the advertised "Business Club With Mark Goldberg."

Based on how he ran the club I think I'll swerve that one and wait for "Bartending with Bill Cosby" instead.

After my experience attending Neil Shipperly‘s ‘Male fitness and public decency’ course, I’ll pass.

Why don't we just take one. Nobody will notice.

The problem is that with the money available the players will be unlikely to be the quality acceptable to the manager. The best bet would be a loan.

I thought Canvot played very well and couldn’t believe how he made replacing MG so seamlessly.Mateta looks surprisingly lacking in confidence at the moment, thought a draw was a the correct result and personally I was not disappointed with it. Is it just me ? or do others agree with me that these games against Brighton are not real derbies now as the atmosphere was nothing special and think we should just respect each other as similar sized well run clubs.

I saw a post match interview with Mitchell after he had been awarded MOM.
He was asked about England and he said he just wants to concentrate on getting Palace as high up the table as possible.
No ego, no fuss and a great team player.
Yes, I know he can’t drop the shoulder and whip in a cross or smash in a 30 yarder into the top corner.
But let’s focus on what he can do- everything else!
Outstanding.
