Hurty words vs assault. I bet the keeper doesn’t get a 3 year ban from football because of this, but because someone shouts out rent boy they do.

The world we now live in is ludicrously lost.

But as we can see above, verbal fan abuse resulted in a stadium ban, physical fan abuse resulted in a prison sentence.

I'd say that's an appropriate difference!

I’m sure those in this country that have been jailed for hurty words will gain no solace from your point but I don’t want to get embroiled in wider politics. I do wonder though if there will be prison sentences for the Millwall fan throwing punches that got into the Palace end and the Palace fans that stamped on him whilst he was on the ground?

They carried on singing about Mateta's injuy even after he was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Just because Palace responded in such a way doesn't make us as vile as they are. We are talking about a club's following that think it's harmless fun to wave Turkish flags at Leeds fans. The sad thing is I really wasn't surprised that they did it.

unfortunately all football fans sing this at opposition players - (some) Palace fans did it away at Man U last month when Martinez was seriously injured in front of us.
So let's not get on our high horses.

I'd have been more shocked if Millwall hadn't sung it.

In terms of homophobic songs i remember an interview with Matt Lucas (a gay Arsenal fan) when he was asked to comment on some chanting aimed at Brighton.
Rather than be offended he said that it's actually quite funny.

Mate of mine , millwall fan, got punched in the back of the head by a steward, with a balaclava on!!
They said he matched the description of a millwall fan that had spat at a woman.
If I heard it from someone else I’d think it sounds like b**locks. But I’ve known him ages.
 
With regards to The Incident, I think there was no intent to hurt Mateta but Roberts has to be responsible for what was a reckless challenge in which he was out of control. Giving him an additional ban on top of the three matches might just focus peoples minds the next time a similar situation occurs, but otherwise I think it's largely pointless.

As for Michael Olivers role in that, if he's meant to be a ' top ' referee then what does it say about the rest ? Some say he played advantage as the ball went to a Palace player, but if he couldn't see Mateta had a head injury that required immediately stopping the game let alone needing VAR guidance to issue the red card then I think he also needs to take a good look at himself.

Millwall looked every inch what they are. A bang average Championship team. A lapse in concentration on the stroke of half time gave them hope when really they should have had none. In the second half they succeeded in dragging the game down to a level that suited them. And it nearly paid off.

Ultimately it's all about the result and we got the one we wanted without performing at our best. Don't underestimate the effect that JP's injury had on our players as well. Playing on after a team mate has sustained a bad injury is difficult.
