CPFC v Millwall Match Thread

Just been on a group holiday met a man who played Rugby at County level. His career was finished by Andy Ripley's very late challenge which broke his shoulder. Ironically he said Ripley went onto to win the fair play award for that season.

Rugby's macho sportsman reputation is utterly overblown

Millwall fans change about Mateta were vile.
I couldn't make the game yesterday but a newspaper has intimated some of our fans for the same when their injured player went off?
There was some fans singing it. However context is key. He had sat down couple of times and not gone off the pitch. Clearly he wasn’t going to die and wasn’t seriously injured, albeit he couldn’t continue. Maybe fans shouldn’t have sung it but there not comparable.

I think if it had been other way round we wouldn’t had led a chant about one of their players lying poleaxed on the floor and not moving

Overall fans are respectful of serious injuries or acknowledging when fans of teams have passed away. Some Millwall fans took it too far

We were singing let him die, when their player was receiving treatment aswell.

I agreed with the commentator. Eddie's header was a really great one from that distance the only way to beat the keeper was a looping header which he did to perfection. It was similar to his arsenal goal.

Long may it continue.
Nketia is definitely improving and he is finding the form we need if Mateta is out.
I am not undermining him, but I would be surprised if any player thinks through the exact detail of their header at the time. He got up really well and headed the ball to the left side of the goal. The rest in those sort of goals is fate. The ball looped up perfectly and went in off the post. Fantastic goal, but surely no player plans it in that detail.
However, the boy is clearly keen and determined and shaping up well as yet another good asset for the club. Long may his progress continue.

There has been a lot of criticism this season of Nketiah. Mateta is currently in the form of his life which is obviously brilliant but a lot seem to forget that the previous version of him was very different - strikers need a proper run of games to produce & Nketiah has not yet had that opportunity since arriving. He might now get it.

I see what you're saying, but i'm not sure he will. We have Ipswich next week then a 3 week break before the Qtr Finals on the 29/30th JP, 'could' be available. We then have Soton away on the Weds & then Br1-3ton at home on the Sat.

Nketiah did well yesterday but you can see why he doesn’t work very well in our system. Likes to run in behind the defence but isn’t good at holding up play or working the lines between midfield and defence. That’s what we need in our system. In the second half you could see it upset our normal patterns of play and we tried to get it forward quickly which isn’t really our strength. We stopped using the width from the wingbacks as much. As others have said Nketiah would suit playing as a front two but isn’t really suited to the lone striker role our system demands.

Time will tell but tbh, 2 seasons ago or so with Mateta, I don't think anyone could have expected to see his transformation to now !

Delighted to learn this morning that JP has been discharged from hospital and will soon be back on the pitch. Fan-tas-tique!

It's very strange, and I've written this before, but when he first came to us I considered him a useless, gangling lump and even, dare I say, considered Eduoard to be a better player. But now, thanks to Ollie working with him and finding his best position, he has earned our love and respect for him as a key player. Some of you may have seen a full page in yesterday's Mail written by Sami Mokbel - a well written piece about our star man.

Anyway, good news about his recovery. BTW, I understand that, when he arrived at the hospital, his surgeon said 'allo, what's this 'ere'.

I have a sneaky feeling this is going to get plenty of use now… Fan-tas-tique

But he did score a very similar goal earlier this year vs Arsenal. He clearly was aiming for that corner. That he pulled it off is, well, great execution. Surely?
