CPFC v Man City Match Thread

i think Teddy Eagle compared Ricoh Lewos's tonsure to that of Dill the Dog - it's a seriously good shout as these links demonstrate. Think I may have found the worst ever footballing barnet, even beats Valderema, John Dempsey and Ian briiton at their worst, Gordon Bolland of Millwall. Hope this adds a bit of zip to your Sunday morning.

It's hard to tell what Gordon Bolland was up to with that one. We've probably all had some dodgy Barnets but that was above and beyond.
Mark Lawrenson often looked a thatched hut and I wasn't keen on our own Andros's birthday cake inspired look but his goal at Man City means he's exempt.

Good performance and result....and yet there's a nagging feeling about the goals conceded.

Neither Guehi nor Henderson did well enough on the soft Haaland goal and the central defenders got suckered in to allow Lewis a free run to score the equaliser.

Perhaps this assessment may seem harsh in the light of the overall performance, but the foundation of any good team has to be a mean defence.
Guehi is really not that good, Delaney gave him a roasting at half time, he should have jumped into Haaland and not give him a free header, Lacroix looks the business, maybe Richards, Lacroix and Riad we be the best choice eventually, i really rate Richards.

I think you'll find plenty of better informed people than you or I would disagree with that ludicrous statement. Delaney ???

As for that goal, the worst part of the defending was the lack of pressure on the player providing the cross. Nunes had time to look up and see the mismatch between Guehi and Haarland. I think you're underestimating Haarlands strength in those situations.

Agreed!

Are you inferring that Richards is a better CB than Guehi?

I do think he’s overrated. Solid enough but not sure how he’s come to be worth £60-70 million. I’m sure Riad was bought as his replacement for when he goes to Manure or Chelski. Lacroix will be in the centre and it’s between Richards and Chalobah for the right side. Richards isn’t as good on the ball as Chalobah but he’s less accident prone.

I reckon there will be offers for lacroix pretty soon as he is showing how valuable he is for us with his games steadily increasing in quality each week.
A great find for sure.
Many Wolfsburg supporters would have preferred not to release him and rather lose him for free next summer just to keep him at the club for an extra year. I expected him to be quite good then. But the speed at which he has adapted to the Premier League is still amazing.

Statistics say he is, more tackles won, more blocks, more winning balls in the air, i think he is better, yes
I'm not sure at all about Richards being Guehi, Guehi didn't look too shabby in the Euros, but I do prefer Richard to Chalobah who makes too many errors. Richards has really improved, reminds me a bit of Chris Coleman who looked a bit unsure early doors but whose confidence and mentality really improved suddenly. Jamie Carragher's game followed a similar path of improvement.

that should read 'Richards being better than Guehi'. oops!

I like Richards and he improved a lot towards the end of last season at a time when the whole team were performing well.

He’s a different type of defender from Guehi, which is what you need in a partnership - ie not two or three players that are identical or similar in style.

So I see Richards and Lacroix to an extent as physical’ enforcer ‘ types with Guehi as the more mobile footballing kind that is comfortable in possession and reads the game well.

I certainly do not agree that Richards is the better of the two however. Look at it this way - I think Guehi would be a starter for the U.S. team, I don’t think Richards would get close to the England team.

Richards looks comfortable on the right of a back 3. He’s played right back before so has good positional sense unlike Chalobah. Guehi is similarly comfortable on the left of a three, always neat and tidy and happy to play out.
Arguably the most important position in the back 3 is the centre one, requiring flexibility to go either way, dealing with whatever comes through the middle, and having the vision to play out to either flank. Guehi wasn’t convincing when Glasner played him there, in fact he looked uncomfortable at times. Lacroix looks like he was born to play there.

Just seen that after the game City's flight home got cancelled and they had to go by coach. Never mind lads look on the bright side, at least you didn't have to queue for a train at Selhurst station.

🤣🤣

What I'd like to know is, what happens when Riad is finally fit, which possibly against 'them' as he's playing for the U21's tomorrow evening. He was very good before his injury. Agree with your post.

The poor luvvies, a trip to South Norwood, Selhurst changing rooms and a cancelled flight…..serves them right 😀
