Composure

What I would say with Nketiah is that most of his chances have been half-chances where he's had to get a shot away quickly, often from a difficult angle. They haven't been howlers or clear-cut chances, which is reflected in the fact his xG is just one goal. I didn't really understand why we signed him when we had JP but I'm not writing him off yet as we're still talking about a player who has not had an extended run of football for a long time and who isn't playing in their preferred position. I'll also always back a player who works hard.

Indeed. One has to ask what was the reasoning behind the signing of Nketiah? His stats are there for all to see - projecting forward from them, he will not convert the chances that come his way as we have seen thus far. I strongly doubt the club will recoup the outlay at some future date.

To be fair to him, his goals per game ratio (or better goals/mins played) is pretty good. Especially considering that historically he's only got a few mins at the end of games.

Re his role in the squad, ad Edouard replacement.

Sounds like Glasner and Dougie thought that he could could play the wide role, which he clearly cant

As concerned as I am at his lack of goals, I’m just as concerned about the lack of support he gives our midfield two. Perhaps if he did put those chances away I wouldn’t mind so much him losing the ball and miss controlling the ball often leaving the opposition to attack our defenders who haven’t got players in front of them to help. That also happens with Munoz, Kamada and Mitchell who are pressing up front leaving our team open when losing the ball. Fulham will have a field day if we don’t get our press right :-(

£25m is a lot of money for an Edouard replacement. We could have just held on to Edouard and spent that on a left wing back. Or held on to Ayew who didn’t score a lot but held the ball up really well and fitted into the system especially off the bench.

Agree with this. Lack of goals and assists is ok if you are offering something else. Ayew didn’t score a lot but was very good at holding the ball up. Nketiah isn’t very good at anything really so far. What I can’t fault him for is effort and attitude so I hope he can start to contribute

Coulda shuda wuda

Although its not worked out so far, hanging on to player who aren't good enough/getting on isn't the right decision. Going on his previously scoring record he can store, and at a very good rate. Converting mins to whole games. From 19/20 Excluding this season

Prem - 21 goals in 18 full games
FA cup - 2 goals in 3 games
EFL cup - 7 goals in 8 games
Europa - 5 goals in 11 games

Lets give him a bit more time, he'll get there. Suspect he would have scored a couple of Sarr's chances at the weekend.

Nor is it the right decision to spend £25m on a player who doesn’t fit the system or improve the starting eleven.

The stat I care most about is this season. So far 7 games, no goals, no assists.

Of course we need to judge him after an extended spell with us. I also would love to see him come good as he has shown a great attitude. Right now though if everyone is fit he doesn’t get in the starting eleven.
