Censorship and Social Media

The EU can dress it up however they like. But they are fining X for not censoring the stuff they want censored.
They are demonstrating that if you wish to trade in the EU then you must abide by the laws the EU enacts.

The way the US tries to steam roll its attitudes over other countries must be resisted worldwide. Especially in this area. Social media companies must apply the moderation requirements that are expected or their platforms must be taken down. Not just in the EU but here too and everywhere else.

Of course they are censoring. That’s not just their right, it’s their duty. We expect them to keep dangerous stuff off the internet, out of sight of our children and not exposing people to harm. We will monitor what is restricted so it doesn’t impinge on political views or anything unnecessary but it’s our standards that rule. Not those of the USA.

well its hardly that much of an achievement by x. Considering the competition is the likes of BBC/RTE

Well, Threads (Meta), Bluesky, Mastodon, Reddit, LinkedIn.

Yeah....I don't know about what 'Threads' is like to be fair but otherwise It's X or essentially dealing with HR like censorship from a TDS soy boy/girl/they/them community.....and you still get censorship over some words on X that seem a bit strange, like 'tranny'......Weird word to censor.

So you're probably right, it's not as if they are being pressured that much.

It’s a very silly claim.

X might be a popular way of keeping abreast of breaking news but that doesn’t make it the most trusted! It’s not edited or moderated. It’s just a market square of opinions. It’s a social media platform where information and disinformation mix without any restraint.

Having become aware of a story people then turn to their trusted sources for verification and analysis.

I stopped using it after Musk bought it. Trust it I don’t.

I am delighted the EU, and us, are putting the squeeze on the social media companies. There is far too much interference in our standards coming from the USA and it’s well past the time to reassert them. Support for the likes of the Russia supporting AfD by the Trump administration being an example.

I always find the Truro Telegraph a decent source of entertainment…

Frankly who cares what you think of it.

You are of the past boomer.

Your politics and your fever dreams, all going down the drain.

Fully deserved.

I care. So do my children, and they aren’t boomers. Nor are several of my friends and they care too.

Just because you live in your own little echo chamber doesn’t mean you understand how others think or feel.

We don’t care that you don’t care about the fact we do!

Did you actually ask them if they care though? Or are you guessing if they care that you cared to point out on their behalf that you cared for them 🤔

I won't talk about your children....but let's just say that I doubt that you have a significant number of young friends around you and nor do I think there is a significant gang of Corny third worldist boomers with your awful political opinions residing in Cornwall.

Not unless Cornwall has become the 'home for hypocrisy' capital of the world.

I may be wrong but I think you mix in truth with fantasy personally....So your anecdotes of how others view you, don't really carry that much weight with me.

But regardless, the point stands.

Social liberalism is being discarded and thankfully the next election sees it gone for our lifetimes.

Depends who you regard as young! For me that’s anyone not yet past retirement age! You can think what ever you wish. You are as wrong on this as you are on almost everything.

I asked several AIs to give answers to “is social liberalism being abandoned by the young?” The answers were similar, but long. Google is though short and to the point:-

“No, current research suggests that young people are generally more socially liberal than previous generations at the same age. However, the political landscape is shifting, and while social liberalism remains strong, young people are increasingly adopting left-leaning economic views, sometimes referred to as "millennial socialism," in response to economic challenges and a feeling of disillusionment with traditional liberal promises of progress.“

No one can deny the current surge of populist sentiment. It’s real but it is primarily the over 50s who are being lured by the time worn idea of the unknown being “given a chance”. The reasons for which are obvious but to suggest social liberalism is being discarded is just wrong. Some disillusioned young men might turn that way but that cohort isn’t new.

There is something to that, but it's also not a truth to talk about the youth being more socially liberal....they have been indoctrinated into a huge program of liberalism via media and government over decades now. That's already ending and will more likely just go faster as things get harder.

The truth you don't like Corny is that the young don't vote in anything like the same numbers as us Gen X or boomers and on that score......You guys are screwed.

Social liberalism along with neo had its chance and it's so royally fecked everything up that people can't wait to kick your type of politics out.

The ball has been fumbled so badly that social liberalism just isn't going to get a look in......And we are going to do to you guys what you did to us.

Anyway, economically you are probably going to do alright out of it.....even if you won't be able to fill your rooms with the benefit people you hate so much and the foreigners you crave......though perhaps you will and that crap never ends.

We will see.

So the youth are indoctrinated! And you aren’t, I suppose!

We all get influenced by those we trust but I see less in the young than others. The young take pride in their independence! Getting them out to vote has always been a problem but keeping Farage’s hands off the levers of power is the strongest motivation for them I can recall.

You don’t speak for “the people”. You speak for an echo chamber and you only fool yourself, and them, with your silly assertions.

The kind of “retribution” attitude you espouse, reminiscent of Trump, is another strong motive to make sure the ideas of people like you never see power. We know there are problems. We know why there are problems. Those problems aren’t caused by social liberalism. They have been caused by events. Social liberalism is the cure, not the disease. Blaming scapegoats is what the weak minded, without any real ideas or answers, do.

The government, with its announcement of compulsory training for young people not in education or employment, the “NEETS”, may well have turned the tide in its fortunes. It’s brave, expensive and full of difficulties but is also very necessary.

I no more “crave” foreigners than I do cigarettes! I see the need for us to accept some current immigration. If we can get the skills we need locally then no problem. Nor do I hate benefits. Some are necessary. What I believe is that most people can, and should, do something, whether or not they receive support. It’s the feckless who I detest. Those who play the system because they are lazy.
