Brighton vs. Crystal Palace match thread

I love hearing Olly’s pre and post match interviews. He gives real insight into his tactical thinking and shows what a good manager he is. This was perhaps the best example yet. He talked about adapting tactics to recognise Brighton’s pace in attack while also stating that they were vulnerable defensively because of it. He knew their manager’s style of play from St Pauli and prepared the team perfectly for it. He even talked openly about taking 3 points!
In his post match interview he acknowledged the players followed the plan and explained that he brought on Nketiah and Kamada to regain control of the midfield after Brighton made a tactical change at half time. Despite what people feel about Kamada and Nketiah their introduction did have the desired effect and enabled us to put the game to bed.
A tactical master class by Glasner and a good example of why he’s the coach and we’re the fans. Great days ahead!

Yep, real proven quality rarely becomes available to buy at a feasible amount while still young.

Buying Henderson, even when you had Johnson was a no brainer because once the chance to buy is gone it's gone. The criticism he received was always short sighted......He made two outstanding saves today and most premiership keepers would have at least conceded one of those and probably both.
And he seems really happy here and has bought into the club

Nketia seems to play best as an out and out no.9.
When he has played out on the right or behind Mateta he hasn't been up to much.
But although he scuffed his lob and had a couple of bad shots, he did at least get the chances.
He also needs to be worked harder in fitness training just like Mateta was last year. Nketia seemed to tire on chasing back a bit. He should also stay behind after training for shooting practise. It's deffo in him.
But overall, there were signs of talent yesterday in Nketia. Hard work and a couple of goals (for confidence) and he should get there.

Its really refreshing. Its why I've always been a defender of the formation and the players he's picking. You know there is a plan, might not always work, but thats life.

Mitchell referenced it too in his post match interview:

“We definitely [found a lot of space going forward]. It’s our game plan: we knew that they wouldn’t track us.

“We know that as wing-backs, the winger doesn't really want to follow you all the way. We knew that there was space in behind their high line.”

You can imagine that these 'tactical' victories will help to build deeper trust and 'buy in' to Glasners way of playing.

I love the way he celebrates a save almost like strikers celebrate a goal, especially when he gave Dunk some when he saved his header

I suspect Henderson is a canny lad. He had probably worked out that a lot of Palace fans were questioning why the club chose to offload Johnstone and keep him and as his performances have become more and more consistent and his shot stopping winning points for us, he's letting the fans know he cares and that he wants to deliver for them. Indeed, sevarae players joined in the celebrations with the fans for an extended time after the final whistle. it can't do their status in the fans' eyes any harm.

I think Chalobah excels in the physical battles probably better than Guehi at getting stuck in. He compliments the other defenders.
And Riad to come back.... watched him for the U21's and he's looking good. Having him back even on the bench will add some pressure to the 3 regulars and also give us another playmaking CB option when needed. Hopefully we don't lose Marc and Trevor at the end of the season as that will set us back... positive thoughts, positive thoughts

Now down here on the South Coast a lot of Brighton fans have been talking about Dunk's legs being gone. And under pressure yesterday he was certainly found wanting.

I was at the Bromley v Port Vale game on Saturday with three other Palace fans. When talking about the Brighton game, we all felt like Palace would win and that Dunk could be their weak link. They do have an excellent bar at Hayes Lane so that might have also been a factor in our optimism.

Mark Bright was also there, running the rule over Danny Imray.

On the day it was a real team performance. OG got his tactics spot on and the players implemented them. I'll admit to being worried when he introduced Kamada, and his first few minutes justified my concern but then he seemed to settle down somewhat. As for Nketiah, if I focus just on the positive, that was a good run he made through the middle and it's a shame his execution let him down, but at least he got himself into the situation. He badly needs that goal to restore his confidence.

All in all a memorable day !
I’m not so sure, there was a long one on one sprint in the second half with (I believe) Eddie Nketiah and he comfortably got to the ball first. Mind you the Seaweed fans will know what they are talking about much more than me! 🤪

Yes! Both Hendo and Lacroix seem to be really enjoying being here and displaying that to the fans. Hendo’s knee slide at Villa park, following Devenny’s goal (moments after his penalty save) was effin beautiful.

Lacroix interacts with the supporters alot and also seems to be a bit of a motivator / leader on the pitch. I also think that should MG leave, he will be a strong contender for the Captains armband.
